Inchie Madness

Inchies Here are my inchies that I mailed out to my two SwapBot swap partners (six inchies each).

These things a lots of fun to make, but a little tedious too. I have several fine blisters on my fingers from burning them with the hot glue gun. I'm quite dangerous with a hot glue gun in my hand. I think I would probably do less harm with a real gun.

But there they are. A lot more work went into them than the results show. I hope my partners like them.

Today at The Yellow House, the front porch rails are being painted. The big reveal is coming up soon, so stay tuned.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday weekend. Happy Labor Day, everyone.

Hope you're settled in watching football right about now.

Have a good Labor Day weekend!

So much work but the rewards are so big. I don't think I have the patience for work like that anymore.
I can see that you love doing it though. You go girl.

ps. I am finally able to have enough patience to visit my blogging friends. Meds for pain are a big help. Smile. Now if I can just stay awake!

The inchies are very cute! I'm sure they will be very much enjoyed!

I tried your cobbler recipe using the tail-ends of summer fruits and early drops of the fall fruits - it is a very forgiving recipe and turned out very well! It was enjoyed by all (I even grated a bit of zucchini into the batter - this is Minnesota and we have more zukes than people here in Faribault County)!

Too Busy for Blogging

House 2 It's been a busy few weeks around The Yellow House. The workmen finally finished yesterday with the siding (and it's beautiful), but I'm not quite ready to reveal the entire house yet. Got a little more spruce-ups to do first. But here are a few photo hints of what she looks like in her new buttery yellow duds.

Isn't the scalloped siding (they call it fish scales) on the dormers pretty? And we also had new light fixture put on the front porch. Pewter.

We had initially planned for the area on each side of the front door to be  wicker-colored shake style siding. The men put it up, we walked out in the street to have a good look, and wow! was it tacky! I sheepishly asked Vann and he asked the workers if we might change our minds at this late date and opt for the yellow board and batting where the cedar shakes were. They agreed immediately. They're such good guys. We had to pay a little more, but really not too much, to have them take it off and redo it with yellow. But even they admitted that the wicker shakes didn't look good.

This morning, we cleaned all the junk off the back porch and Vann pressure washed it. I'm really wanting to get some wicker furniture,House 1 paint it a nice blue or green or white, and make an inviting outdoor sitting area there.

Yesterday, I baked half the day, and chauffeured my grandson Jesse around the other half. Jesse's truck is broken. He's supposed to go to work at Sam's as soon as the results of his drug test come back. I told him this might be the first test in a long time that he'll ace.

House 3

Do you know about Inchies, those fun little 1" square pieces of art that are starring in art trades all over the Internet?

I'm taking part in a SwapBot Inchies swap, and here are pictures of the ones that my two partners sent me. Mine go out tomorrow.

Inchies 1 Inchies 2

The inches on the left from Emily. She also sent me a card with pretty pastel ribbons. The ones on the right are from Cherry.

Finally, for those of you who asked for my PEACH COBBLER RECIPE, you can find it here.

Hi Sophie; we were all concerned about your run in with the "buzzy-buzzy". Our mommy says that we are NOT to play with the buzzy-buzzys; she says they do NOt like to play with us! We do not think that is so; we are, as we are sure you are, very nice well mannered babies. Maybe that buzzy-buzzy was just in a bad mood; we told our mommy to write you for us; she will not let us use the computer ( Bitsy tries to play with the mouser all the time; why can't we play with the mouser? We likes mousers! We used to play with one out on our old patio! We were nice! We swear!)And we want you to know that we think it was all the buzzy-buzzy's fault Sophie!!! Cobblers, Cards, and Commendation

Peach 2 My Women of Worship (WOW!) group had another great bake sale yesterday. I made peach cobblers this time. I made six in all: one for us, one for our friends Paul and Karen, and four for the sale. The mayor bought one of them, as did our pastor. I didn't know the people who bought the others.

I have an order for an applesauce cake for next week. Haven't made one in a long time, but I'm looking forward to it.

We found out yesterday that the Farmer's Market will be running through September, so we have five more bake sales to go instead of just one as we had thought. But that just means chances to make more money. We've already made enough for the new kitchen cabinets. They're in. I haven't seen them yet, but those who have say they look great.

Butterfly ATCs 4 I made these butterfly ATCs for another SwapBot ATC swap. I put them in the mail to my swap partners Thursday.

Tropical Storm Fay is paying us a visit this weekend. We woke up to a nice gentle rain, and the forecasters say there's much more to come. I don't care. I love rainy weather as long as there are no tornadoes or anything severe to hurt people. I pray that everyone in Fay's path will weather the storm safely.

We went out to eat last night with Karen and Paul. We had good Mexican grilled shrimp (with enough left over for lunch today). We talked about going to see the new Batman movie this afternoon, but we've decided to make a much needed trip to the hair stylist instead--Vann for a haircut and me for a coloring that I've been putting off for too long. Not as much fun as Batman, but it's gotta be done.

In closing, I want to show you what Anita of Take Joy has honored me and Sophie with.

Iloveyourblog_thumb_thumb Thanks ever so much, Anita. We both appreciate your thoughtfulness, and would like to say that we like your blog too--especially all the animals. I like the goats, myself; but Sophie says the cats are the best. Did you ever know a dog who loves cats? Well, Miss Sophie does.

I'm supposed to pass this award on to some other bloggers. You all know I love all of your blogs, so it's hard to pick just a few. So here's the deal. Look over to the right of the blog page. If your blog is listed there, then I award you this blog award.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend.

I don't even LIKE peaches and your cobblers make my mouth water! But OH, BOY! Applesauce cake? If I were there, I would buy them ALL! Yummmmm! You & the WOWs are awesome for doing so much to raise $$ for the kitchen! No good deed goes unnoticed! The ATCs are really pretty, too! Love the way you incorporated orange into each one but in very different ways! I had to smile over the hair color thing because tomorrow I am going to get my hair cut VERY short so the rest of the color will be GONE. I stopped coloring it a year ago & because it's so thick and curly, it hides the gray growing out. I WANT it to go ahead and be gray! NOT looking forward to extra short hair on this basketball sized head, but it's the price I have to pay. Sigh ...

On 08/28/2008, Nicole said ...

I would love it if you would share your peach cobbler recipe with me. I have a mob of folks coming over for a barbeque on Sunday and it would make the perfect dessert!

The package contained other goodies as well. Hope over to Janet's blog and see what else I sent her.

When I looked at the picture of your house with work in progress, I was reminded of the movie "The Money Pit". Being the movie buff that you are, you have probably seen it and know what I am talking about. Sounds as if everything is going smoothly for you and that's good. My Mom just left from staying with me for over a week as she decided to have her carpets removed and return to the original hardwood flooring in the house. Worker Bees Are Swarming

Yellow house 2 The Yellow House has been the scene of much activity today. The siding guys continue to put on YH's new duds, the cleaning ladies were here all morning, and the tree cutting guys came to take down three trees damaged by lightening earlier in the month. Phew! I'm ready for some peace and quiet.

All the siding is done except for the front of the house. The dormers are going to be so pretty, with white fish scale scallops on top and regular siding (clapboard like on the rest of the house) from the top of the windows down. The area behind the front porch on either side of the front door is going to be Wicker-colored shakes. I'll have close-up photos of all of this once it's done.

A Double Dog Dare

Tab;e Can anybody beat this for a messy work table? If so, let's see. I dare you to post a photo of your messy workspace on your blog and let me know so I can come see.

When I get in a real frenzy of creativity, I don't bother putting things away. My husband is just the opposite. He uses one tool, puts it away, then gets another. I use one thing, throw it to the side, and grab something else. The muse won't wait for me to put stuff back where it came from.

So I'm in no danger of being labeled a "neat freak" or a "fuss budget."

Here's another couple of peaks at what I've b been working on. I've mailed it off to my Cupcake Swap partner, Janet, and as soon as she gets it, I'm going to post a photo of the whole thing.

Susan, I am just SHOCKED! That's all I can say!LOL

What a familiar looking mess. Thankfully I can't post a picture of my workspace because I'm not working on anything right now. Mine would be as bad as yours, no actually it would be worse because it would be on the dining table where people eat and use their computers and pay bills... you get the picture.

I hope you are feeling better now that the moon is waning.

...heck, my work space(s) are much worse than that puny photo, Susan! You actually still have a good 18" empty space to work in on that table! Those peeks at new work are sure pretty, whatever they are!My muse must be on vacation this month....I'm "empty" for some reason.Carry on,Queen of Arts!

Surprise Endings

Green SamplerThese pieces hang on the wall in my dining room, and I didn't create any of them. The one on the right was stitched by my Mama. The two little quilts below were made by Mary Hickey.

Green quilts

That's it for the Show-n-Tell. I did get some baking done yesterday for the bake sale: a coconut cake and 80 chocolate cookies. We made $560.60 at yesterday's sale, the most we've made at one sale. I don't even know what our total is now.

I finished reading Dennis Lehane's Mystic River  last night. What a very good (if very disturbing) book. I had seen the movie a couple of times before reading the book, so the ending didn't surprise me, but it did disturb me, just like it did in the movie. If you've seen the movie, I know you can't forget Sean Penn's memorable scene when he learns that his daughter is dead. That's Sean's defining moment for me (that, and his brief marriage to Madonna). I always see him in that heart-wrenching scene whenever I think of him (the movie, not the wedding). Did he win an Oscar for that? I can't remember. If not, he should have.

Oh no! Sophie just ran upstairs and hid under my desk. Now she's licking her backside . Vann followed right behind her to tell me she was stung by a bumblebee. He added that Sophie started the altercation with the bee. Poor Soph. I've never been stung on the backside, but I'm sure it hurts. Guess I'd better go now and love on my doggie. I wonder if the bee is all right.

A Treasure Unearthed

Clock When I retired from my 23-year editing career in 2001, I packed up my office in about a dozen brown cardboard boxes, which Vann hauled home and stored in the basement. Over the first few months after retirement, I brought some of the boxes upstairs and unpacked them and put stuff away or got rid of it--mostly books, magazines, and photography.

But my enthusiasm for unpacking soon waned, and six of those boxes have remained in the basement over the years. Vann is now reorganizing the basement, and he had Phillip bring those six big brown boxes up to my office and set them in the middle of he floor. And there they sit.

I opened one of those boxes yesterday, and look what I found. I had forgotten all about this clock, which I bought at a Southern Living prop sale, I don't know how many years ago. It won't run, so I need to find a clock repair person to fix it. Anybody know one?

Phillip and Carrie and their dogs Ripple and Weilii left at about 5:00 this morning. They all came into our room and woke us up with hugs and kisses, then they were gone in a flurry. I miss them already.

My body tells me the moon is nearing fullness. So I look at my calendar, and sure enough--Saturday is full moon. I'm still taking the Vitamin B Complex, and I think it's helping with the fatigue some, but this body can surely feel the tidal pull of Old Man Moon in all his fine gibbousness. Most everything on me is experiencing some degree of pain this morning.

This is supposed to be baking day, the day when I make goodies to sell at the church ladies' weekly bake sale. But Gertrude is holding no appeal for me right now. I have a feeling I won't get much done for the next few days. But that's ok; I have lots of good books to read.

SwapBot Fairies

Fairies I received these sweet fairy atc's from Jean Massey of Australia. As far as I know, Jean doesn't have a blog. She was my swap partner in a Fairy ATC SwapBot swap. I still have to make mine and mail them to a different partner. I'm not late, though. Jean was just early.

Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang! That's the tune playing around here these days. The siders are still here, putting new attire on The Yellow House. They're about halfway finished. I love the new siding. It's a different shade of yellow, much more buttery. When she's finished, I'll post a photo.

Phillip, Carrie, and their two dogs are still here. They'll be leaving very early in the morning. Amy left Monday. I'm sad to see them all go. It sure will be quiet around here.

Hey, Susan...I am truly jealous of all the improvements going on at the Yellow House. My latest "improvement" was having to have a giant box elder completely taken down. It had been here since I bought the joint 30 years ago and was giant even at that time! As it was located to the south of my joint, it gave me tremendous shade all these years. I've had a couple of good cries over it. Anyway, soon everything should be back to normal for you and you can really relax and enjoy your beautiful home. Say "Hi" to the Sophie for me. PP

And I Love to Feed the Seagulls Too

Maizee at Fabric and Yarn Stasher has tagged me to tell six unspectacular quirks of mine. Me?Suze and Seagulls Quirky? Naw! Well, maybe just a little.

 I. hate talking on the phone (almost to the point of phobia).
 2. I would wear pajamas 24/7 if I had my druthers.
3. I don't like anybody to touch my feet or ears.
4. I don't like to be kissed on the mouth, except by my husband.
5. I sing and talk to myself a lot.
6. I insist that the toilet paper roll off the roll from the top.

Now wasn't that boring? Well, the rules say "unspectacular," so there you are.

I'm not going to tag anybody specifically, but if you'd like to play this game, feel free. Here are the rules:

1. Link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules on your blog.
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking to them.
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers blogs letting them know they've been
tagged.

As you see, I didn't follow the last two rules. That's another one of my quirks: I have a hard time with rules.

Susan, are you my long-lost twin? I'm exactly like you in all but one category. I really don't care which way the toilet paper rolls off, so long as someone remembers to replace the danged roll. Baby Food Jar Pincushion

Pincushion Pincushion Top

Yesterday, I did something creative. Quick & easy, but creative. Since I'm pretty sure my "Baby Food Jar Full of Buttons" swap partner doesn't read my blog, I'm showing what I made. You could fill the jar with M&Ms instead of buttons for a sweet quilting retreat favor or gift to a favorite quilter.

EDITED TO ADD LINK FOR INSTRUCTIONS: I found the instructions for making the flower pincushion at Polka Dot Pineapple. But instead of using the golf tee idea, I glued the blossom to a circle of card stock, then glued that to the top of the jar.

The Gang's All Here!

Cake ....well, most of them anyway.

I got everything on the list done, except the vacuuming, and since Vann and Phillip had both said they do that chore (but got sidetracked, both of them), I don't feel too bad about that.

Here's the cake Gertrude and I baked yesterday morning for the bake sale. It's an almond bundt cake, which I just sort of made up. So I guess it's my original recipe.

Last night, The Yellow House was a rocking place. Nine adult people and three dogs gathered for a jam session. Phillip (our son) and Carrie's (DIL) brother John picked their guitars for us, and the rest of us hummed and patted our feet.

This morning, I made blueberry muffins (I know, Gert: I meant to say "we made blueberrCake Tagy muffins") for breakfast, which we consumed with cereal and bananas. Just me, Vann, Vann's brother and SIL. Everyone else went to Carrie's parent's house last night after the picking. Today we expect more kinfolks to be rolling in.

Today is the big day. The reception for Carrie and Phillip starts in about 2 1/2 hours. So I better go now and get my shower .

Frenzied Friday

Banner Here's the schedule just for today:

*Finish laundry
*Put fresh linens on all beds
*Make breakfast
*Pick up
*Vacuum
*Bake cake for bake sale
*Take a shower
*Go to Book Club (I haven't read the book)
*Go to Bake Sale
*Make dinner and get ready for guests to arrive.

And there's no telling what I'm forgetting that needs to be done. Our son and his wife are visiting from Wyoming. You'll recall, or maybe not, that they were married in February (in Wyoming) and nobody from here got to attend the wedding. So our DIL's mom is throwing them a big reception tomorrow afternoon at one of our historic houses. So all of Vann's family is coming into town to attend.
Ripple
This week has been pretty busy already. The workmen are busy putting the new siding on The Yellow House so there's constant bang-bang going on. Vann has been super busy replacing all the things that last week's lightning knocked out (air conditioning, sprinkler system, ice maker, phones, etc.).

The above photo is of something that's coming together in my sewing room. It's a surprise for someone who sometimes reads my blog, so I can't show it all.

The photo at right is of one of our grand-dogs, Ripple. She's a Blue Heeler and the sweetest dog ever.

Love Story

UntitledSince China is the topic of the day, what with the Summer Olympics about to start in Bejing, here's a beautiful story about the significance of today in China. August 7 is Valentine's Day in the PRC.

Chinese Valentine's Day is on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month in the Chinese calendar. Back a long long time ago, the 7th daughter of the Emperor of Heaven and an orphaned cowherd fell in love. But the Emperor didn't approve of the lowly cowherd and he kept the lovers apart. So the maiden ran away from home and took up residence on the star Vega.

Now, for some reason, the cowherd moved to the star Altair. (Why he didn't just move to Vega with his lady love was not explained in the quick research I did.)

Being that these two stars are several bazillion light years apart, the lovers still had a hard time getting together until the magpies came to their rescue. Once a year, on the 7th night of the 7th month, the little birds build a bridge between the two stars Magpieand allow the couple to have their annual date. They pick the one night of the year when the two stars are closest together so that the bridge will require fewer magpies.

After the lovers have had their tryst and returned to their respective stars, the magpies have to return to earth and rest up for the whole next year because flying in space is so difficult, what with no oxygen or gravity or anything--not to mention having two people walking on your back.

They say it's impossible to find a magpie in China on this day. They're all out there bridging the gap between Vega and Altair.

I think this is a much sweeter story than the one I've heard about the origins of our Valentine's Day. It seems some greeting card execs were sitting around in a board room having a brainstorming session about how to make more money. They came up with a holiday honoring lovers, who, if they cared enough to send the very best, would go out and buy tons of greeting cards called "Valentines." As an added bonus, the greeting card company gets kickbacks from chocolate manufacturers and florists who also make a killing on these days.

Happy Chinese Valentine's Day, everyone. And if you see a magpie today, please direct him toward the heavens. Those birdies are gonna need all the help they can get.

Hi Susan!
Happy Chinese Valentines Day! to you! Enjoyed the story behind the tradition and I agree it "almost" beats our American version-- I am a chocoholic!!! =O)
Cannot wait til you post your recipes--and pleassssse pass that peach dessert through the computer- Wow does that look good!
I have a request -- my sisters friend is trying for a scholarship to college and has a video she made -- the more people that view it the better her chances of winning. It had to be about The Benefits of Tea. She has her twin brothers in it and she likes the Godfather so that is the theme. Here is the video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxnRU1INZ81
It is for a good cause- Thank You! Karyl

Susan, I loved learning about this. I had never read anything about it.

And, I agree that it is much more interesting than a Hallmark sales plan. ;-)

You are amazing! How you find these lovely stories, bake, quilt, do everything! We love cultural stuff so I thoroughly enjoyed the Chinese Valentines Day. However, I am partial to the American Valentines Day -not because I am a chocoholic (I am) but it is my birthday! My husband comments all the time...'do you know how long it took to find a woman born on Valentines Day so I wouldn't forget her birthday?' LOL

The Hurrier I Go, The Behinder I Get

Peach Cobbler Remember that post I did a while back about the incredible speed with which Time passes through my life? Well it's just getting worse.

I'm behind with everything. I still have only three blocks (or is it two?) done for my Two-Color Challenge quilt which was due to be finished last week; I'm two or three cards in arrears with my Altered Playing Cards; I have a couple of swaps that are due out the door any day now (at least they're not late--yet); I haven't even started reading my book club selection, which we meet to discuss on Friday afternoon. There are several more, but I won't bore you.

But I've found time to cook, as you can see from the photo above. Yesterday Gertrude and I cooked chicken and dumplings. Last night, we made a peach cobbler with the fresh Georgia peaches my BIL gave us when we were in Camilla over the weekend. Vann deemed it the best he'd ever eaten. It was mighty fine.

Oh, and that reminds me of something else I'm behind with. I've promised several of you recipes. I plan to post recipes for the Hummingbird Cake, the Cinnamon Biscuits, and maybe even this cobbler soon.

Got go now. I'm late making breakfast. Our son, Phillip from Wyoming, is here. I know my guys are hungry.

mmmmmm making me hungry. I have a list as long as my arm of all the things I need to do in the next few weeks.Finding time to read is very difficult at the moment.

Susan, I know I feel like I am in the same predicament. I hate being late with things.

I think I am going to start hanging out with you and Gertrude.

It looks like we're both up to our elbows in peaches. :-)

Hang in there Susan, you'll get caught up. I have been feeling the same way lately, just too much going on. You always make me hungry with all those goodies you are cooking/baking. That cobbler looks soooo good.

I am always "a day late and a dollar short" so I can completely relate to your "being behind"! :-)
Your cobbler looks yummy!!!

And that is the reason I try, and notice I say try, to not sign up for all these inviting swaps I see posted on blogs. I would love to be in every swap, participate in every BOM and all the other fun games - but they all require so much time. Maybe someday when I retire I will have more time to do these things. So for now, I just enjoy watching all the fun the rest of you are having and joining in a few. Your cobbler looks so yummy, please do post the recipe.

Oh, dear...I think I was BORN running behind! Seems I never really get caught up. Oh, well....
there's always TOMORROW!

Harbinger

Butterfly_18_400px I saw it! The Little Yellow Butterfly! Today as I was driving back home from grocery shopping, there he was, crossing the road--on August 5. You know what that means: Autumn is on its way. I think he's a little early this year. Could that mean an early autumn? I sure hope so.

Today's weather is anything but autumnal. Very hot and humid, as one expects in August in Alabama. But the weather people tell us it will be a little cooler by the end of the week. Hurray!

My friend Beverly at How Sweet the Sound has tagged me to a fun meme. I'm supposed to name five songs that I'm embarrassed to admit I like. I thought and thought, and couldn't think of even one song that I'm embarrassed to say I like. But here are five that I probably should be embarrassed by. What the heck? Click on the links and listen to them and tell me if my face should be red.

Tiny Bubbles by Don Ho: This song "makes me happy, makes me feel fine." And so did Don Ho when he was young and good looking.
Jump by Van Halen featuring David Lee Roth: I know DLR is a scuzz, but when he sings "Jump," I want to. And Eddie VH is so darn cute!
Feelings by Albert Morris: A sure-fire way to get the gong on the 70s version of "American Idol." But I love it.
Goodbye, Earl by the Dixie Chicks:I think I have to tell the truth here. I'm really quite proud of liking this song. Take a listen and see what you think.
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer by Dr. Elmo, my all-time favorite Christmas song!

So now, I'm supposed to invite seven bloggers to share their most embassing songs. I'm choosing: Andy at Andy's Blog, Molly at Dark Oak Woman, Liz at Mabel's House, Patti at Treasure Barn, Karla at Sugar Bear Designs, Sister at Sourwood Mountain, Sherry at Hunny Bunny and anybody else who would like to play. In fact, if I've tagged you, and you don't care to play, you don't even have to.

Now here are the tag rules:

1. Post the link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog.

2. Share 5 songs you are embarrassed to admit to others that you like and tell why.

3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post.

What a beautiful butterfly. We are still waiting for our summer. Had one good week but wet and windy today and supposed to be the same tomorrow. Good for the garden .

Oooh... I'll have to give this one some though. But I LOVE Goodbye Earl.. so you're not alone. :)

I hope your eyes weren't playing tricks! An early Autumn would be most welcome here where its 100 on a daily basis. Of course that means that we'd have to close the pool early... oh well(said with a smirk and eyebrows raised).

I've played your meme and tagged a few bloggers. Like you, the songs I listed are ones I "should" be embarassed by since they are kind of awful.

Molly

A Quick Trip to Gnatland

Farm enhanced

Sorry I've been so quiet here for the past few days. On Friday, Vann and I decided to drive down to south Georgia where his parents live. They are both in their late 80s and in poor health. His mom has just moved into a nursing home. It's the usual caring-for-elderly-parents problems, and Vann's siblings who live near the parents, were becoming a little overwhelmed. I'm not sure we were much help, but I'm glad we went.  We had to be back by today to take care of a multitude of stuff here, so we returned home yesterday.

It was even more humid in south Georgia than it is here. And the area has the added delight of gnats. It's not just like you see a gnat here and there. It's actually a weather phenomenon. The air is full of the little devils. If you should go through south Georgia this time of year, don't bother to wave back at people. They aren't saying hello; they're just trying to keep the gnats out of their eyes, mouths, and noses.

The photo at top is of Vann's cousin Scott Vann's roadside market at his farm. Scott grows fruits and vegetables. He also sells delicious jams, jellies, pickles, and relishes. We stopped to see Scott, who has just recovered from a rattlesnake bite, and to get some great tomatoes and some of those wonderful jams. We bought peach and blueberry this time.

A wild thunderstorm last Thursday night caused some damage here. It knocked out the upstairs air conditioning unit and blew the lawn irrigation system. The air conditioning has been repaired, but the repairman has not yet arrived to work on the sprinkler system.

I had thought the workmen were coming today to start on the new siding, but they're coming tomorrow instead. That's fine; we have enough going on today as it is.

With so much going on at The Yellow House and elsewhere in our lives, keeping up with blogging is going to be difficult for a little while, but I'll do my best. If I don't answer your sweet comments as quickly or visit your blogs as often as I usually do, please forgive me. Hope everyone is having a great day.

You had a busy and eventful weekend Susan. i remember being in Georgia in August and as a Brit found the storms very powerful and frightening. Don't remember any gnats or maybe we were lucky.

Thanks for the update; yes, I and others of your regular readers missed you!Just so you're slapping gnats and not sick! You're both good to visit the "parents"......we tended to all four of ours AT HOME, and I can tell you it's hardest job I've EVER done. And ALL help is appreciated, even for a weekend...good for you both!

Oh, I am very familiar with those gnats in South Georgia. Pesky little things.

Some other pesky things that drives me nuts are those darn lovebugs in Florida. Yuck!

Good luck with everything your have going on. At least now you have your new friend, Gertrude.

Good morning, Susan. I'm back again this morning to let you know that I tagged you with what is quite a fun tag. Once I got going, I could have gone on and on. I hope you don't mind, but if you do, feel free to just skip it.

I thought of you because I love your sense of humor. You always have such an interesting perspective of fun subjects.
