Surprise Endings

Green SamplerThese pieces hang on the wall in my dining room, and I didn't create any of them. The one on the right was stitched by my Mama. The two little quilts below were made by Mary Hickey.

That's it for the Show-n-Tell. I did get some baking done yesterday for the bake sale: a coconut cake and 80 chocolate cookies. We made $560.60 at yesterday's sale, the most we've made at one sale. I don't even know what our total is now.

I finished reading Dennis Lehane's Mystic River  last night. What a very good (if very disturbing) book. I had seen the movie a couple of times before reading the book, so the ending didn't surprise me, but it did disturb me, just like it did in the movie. If you've seen the movie, I know you can't forget Sean Penn's memorable scene when he learns that his daughter is dead. That's Sean's defining moment for me (that, and his brief marriage to Madonna). I always see him in that heart-wrenching scene whenever I think of him (the movie, not the wedding). Did he win an Oscar for that? I can't remember. If not, he should have.

Oh no! Sophie just ran upstairs and hid under my desk. Now she's licking her backside . Vann followed right behind her to tell me she was stung by a bumblebee. He added that Sophie started the altercation with the bee. Poor Soph. I've never been stung on the backside, but I'm sure it hurts. Guess I'd better go now and love on my doggie. I wonder if the bee is all right.

Poor Sophie! Hug her good. I've trained my bumblebees (I call them my guard bees) not to sting--at least, not to sting ME! (Now that I've said that, I'll probably get stung.)

That was a great day at the bake sale. Does this mean you are feeling a bit better? I hope so.

Poor Sophie - and poor bee.

...did you get the stinger out of poor Sophie's little butt?! Wow, you bake sale gals should open a bakery; you'd be rich and retired in 5 yrs.!Mighty smart and worthy cause...I give you a GOLD star!

Wish I was close enough to go to the bake sale. Oh well, probably not on my weight watchers plan. Poor Sophie - I hope she is feeling better. I got stung by many wasps a few years ago and that was not fun!

Susan, the quilts are beautiful. I have seen the movie Mystic River but never read the book.
I hope you are well. xoxo Nita
