I Did a Thing

I actually made a quilt block yesterday--and did a bit of vacuuming and mopping as well. Today I'm doing laundry. Might get back to the sewing room. Might not.

The quilt block is from a pattern by Riley Blake called Decorating the Christmas Tree (photo below). My original thought when I purchased the pattern was that I'd make the entire full-size quilt. But after making that one block, I'm thinking it might turn into a wall hanging. It took a while. The instructions are not great. But one I get it all in my head, maybe it will get less confusing.

It's feeling a little more like fall. The weatherman promises rain tomorrow and then cooler temperatures. Already the horrible heat and humidity of summer seem to be gone (I hope).

Jesse and I ordered pizza and are watching the Bama/Mississippi State game.

Seven More Months Till October

I'm already missing Autumn, so I made a Jack-o-Lantern quilt block. This is the first time I've been in the sewing room for weeks and weeks. I started it yesterday, but my hands were still shaky and my back didn't last long. I went back up today and had a little more luck. At least I finished the block. I might add a border, depending on what I decide to do with it. I have a couple of Autumn pieces started, and it might find its way into one of those.

I went to church this week for the first time since just after Christmas. It was a wonderful service with a meaningful sermon. Sister Ramey, Niece India, and I went to Cracker Barrel after church. We had a terrific lunch of fried chicken and veggies. I overdid my post-flu strength limits though.. When I got home, my back was in misery and my legs felt like rubber bands. I spent the rest of the day and night in bed. I've heard others say that it takes a long time to get your strength back after this flu. I believe it.

The flu problem is totally gone except for lack of strength, but I'm not sure about the sinus infection. I still have some facial pain and congestion. I have a couple more of the antibiotic tablets to take. When they're gone, I'll decide whether or not to go back to the doctor.

Gotta go. I have three library books due in a few days, so I have to do some speed reading.

Bummer!

I have a few minutes before I have to run out the door (well hobble perhaps) to book club meeting.

Remember the Windows quilt (photo above) I've been working on for months to show at my guild's quilt show in June? (Still not finished.) Well guess what. Two members brought the same quilt to show and tell at the January meeting this week. They were beautiful. I'm nonplussed. I picked this pattern because I thought no one else would go to the trouble to piece all those thousands of 2 1/2" square. But they did.

Now I don't have a clue what (if anything) I'll have to enter in the quilt show, but it won't be Windows. I have two or three small quilts finished except for binding, and a couple of large quilts started. Have to give it some thought.

OK, better go. Have to pick up sister Ramey for book club. Then we're having lunch at a new restaurant in Leeds, Sweet Caroline.

Knee still feels lots better, but my back is the same as ever--awful.
