The mysterious invisible dome that has descended upon the little Maine town of Chester's Mill seriously inhibits communication with the outside world. And that's where I've been all weekend, my nose planted firmly within the pages of this four-pound tome. That's why I haven't been blogging or facebooking or much of anything except reading. It's a page turner, the best book Stephen King has written in a while, in my opinion.
I did take time out yesterday afternoon to work on the last two bunny blocks. I finished Brown Bunny, block #9, and have block #10 (the last block) cut out and ready to baste. Then I went back to reading.
I'm not the speediest of readers, especially since my eyes have aged and my eye doctor can't get my glasses right. I'm about 700 pages into the book and hope to get back to it today after I do a little declutter work upstairs. And maybe this evening, I'll get that last bunny block done or work on my snowball blocks. Still have a few hsts to trim.
Neighbors were busy this weekend putting up signs of the season. Not me. I'll hang my front door wreath tomorrow, Dec. 1, and then who knows when I'll get my little tree up or embellish the dining table? Before Dec. 25, for sure. On our last walk last night, Sophie and I took a couple of photos of neighborhood bling.
This is Paul and Karen's front yard. The reindeer's heads move back and forth, and the small gift box opens and closes.
I thought Nolan's little trees were the cutest things. But Sophie was more interested in the big bug creeping down the curb.
We have a very rainy, dreary morning today--the type of weather when I work all day trying to get Sophie to outside for bathroom duty. This morning, I figured out a secret. Sophie hates water falling on her back. I know that from her baths. So I decided to dress her in her red sweater a while ago, and she went outside just like it was a sunny day. She used to have a little rain coat, but she seems to have lost it somewhere.
I just heard on CNN that 195 million people turned out for Black Friday shopping. I was not one of them. I'm happy for the economy, but for the life of me I don't understand why anyone would want to get up at 4:00 a.m. to go and battle Mall crowds for prices that you can probably find from now until Christmas, maybe even lower. It's like hunting to me. I've always wondered at Vann and his friends' fondness for getting out of a warm bed in the wee hours to go sit up in a tree in the cold and damp and hope a deer wanders by. To each his own, I guess. Happy Monday, everyone.

Welcome back from your outing to Maine! I understand getting lost in a book. When the boys were grounded, I used to tell them they could read and be anywhere in the world or space, but they wouldn't be in front of our TV!
Hope you have good lighting where you read. Our aging eyes require more wattage (like double) according to Dr. Susan Mech who wrote "Rx for Quilters". That sometimes means buying a new lamp that can accommodate stronger light bulbs.
Congrats on the nearing completion of your bunny blocks! They each have such different personalities already. Good stitching!
Will Sophie get a new rain coat for Christmas?!
Hugs!

I pulled out a rain coat this morning and had to call my dogs three times out of the front step for bathroom duty. Boy do those pups hate the rain! Love the pictures of the decorations :) Hope you get the tree up sooner than later, I always find that Christmas decorations cheer me up.

No Black Friday for me either! I've only read one SK book - The Eye of the Dragon - maybe I'll give this huge one a try for the new year!

I so agree with Barbara! I find myself squinting and squirming to position myself just so if the lighting isn't right these days. I have only the one sighted eye, of course, and stinky vision in the left one now, but I thought it was just ME fighting for light! Your bunnies are each just as cute as they can be! I am really eager to see the completed quilt! As for the Black Friday thing - UGH! No way would I battle the crowds! Insanity at its highest that shopping day tradition! The lights are gorgeous! Wish I had the stamina to do the outside! But my favorite photo is lil' Sophie admiring her bug! I just adore that doggy! Oh! I am well into Charles de Lint's latest novel. Like you with the King book - I don't want to put it down! Will email back later! LOVE YOU!

I'm so glad your enjoying 'Under The Dome', I got both the book and the audio as my eyes are affected by my scleroderma and some days I can read, others I can't. Also, I can listen to it on my Ipod while I sew, the best of both worlds. Though I am much slower than you, I too am truly enjoying it. For me, if a book is really a page turner, the longer, the better...I want to see what happens but I hate to see it end. As for Black Friday, I just don't do shopping anymore unless I have to and especially not that day, nor the day after Christmas. Your bunnies are all so darling, I just love them. Can't wait to see the finished project. Hugs coming your way.

I am about as far as you are into Under the Dome. I haven't read such a page turner in a long time. I do find myself wishing SK wasn't quite so graphic though! His depictions of the character's personalities is the best however.
Shopping at the mall? So over rated!

Well, first, thank you for the Thanksgiving Greeting! I hope you had a nice one, too, although I know it must have been hard for you.
I'll probably read "Under the Dome" one day. I heard that Stephen King wrote it many years ago, so I bet it reflects his older works. I have enjoyed so many of his books, (recently: Duma Key) but nothing will ever top "The Stand," "The Shining" and "IT," IMHO.
And I totally agree with you about Black Friday. It's so silly. Frankly, I didn't see anything that was such a great buy I'd stand on line for it!
BTW, I recently finished "The Tale of Edgar Sawtelle." Thanks for recommending it in your booklist. I loved it.

I haven't been tempted in YEARS to pick up a Stephen King novel but this one caught my attention the first time I saw it. I need to put my name on the list at the library because I really want to see it. xoox melzie

Paul and karens front yard looks wonderful. This year we are having less christmas decorations. Things can so easily get out of hand
