I Spy Snowballs

Jesse's Quilt Thanks to everyone who left comments and advice on my "Taking Stock" post. I promise I won't get rid of stuff willy nilly for now. There's a big closet in my office/study room. Right now, that room also is the home of most of my crafting supplies that aren't sewing related. The room is a big old mess is what it is.

Vann has always used the closet for his hunting wardrobe--you know, all that camo stuff. So here's the plan. I'm going to pack up the camo and clean out that closet.(Not giving the camo away either, at least not for now until I see if the boys want any of it.) I'll purchase some inexpensive shelving at WalMart or somewhere and make the closet home for all my crafting supplies. Even if I don't ever use them again, they'll be much easier for someone else to dispose of if I should happen to croak or move to Italy. So that's settled. Not done--just settled.

You might be wondering about the quilt in the photo. That's the snowball quilt I made for my grandson Jesse when he was 10 or 11. He's 20 now and still uses it. Andy brought it yesterday to wash, and I took some photos while it was hanging on the line.

I made it on the "I Spy" quilt principle. Each block is a different fun print. Click on the photo to enlarge and you can see the prints better. Some blocks have photo transfers of Jesse himself. The photos have faded a bit, but the quilt is as bright and fun as always.

Speaking of snowball quilts, I hope to make progress on my snowball challenge this week. I got the October Garden units that I was chainpiecing (zillions of them) out from under the sewing machine presser foot this weekend. So now I can start chain pieceing the snowball bias squares.

I also got another bunny almost finished this weekend. Just a little more embroidery on her scarf, then I'll snow her here.

I find I'm liking working on several projects at once. It keeps things more interesting and staves off boredom.

Funny to see that watermelon fabric. This weekend I pulled out the box marked Food Fabrics that I have been collecting for my son's food quilt and there was that same fabric (and too much of it too). Some fabric just never goes away!

Love your DGS's Snowball Quilt and how wonderful that he's still enjoying it all these years later :) LOL on that "croak or move to Italy" possibility! So glad to see that your sense of humor is so wonderfully in tact :)

Thanks for showing the Snowball Quilt, its inspired me. I have quilts done for my 3 Granddaughters but couldn't decide what to do for the 2 Grandsons, now I know. I have lots of fun prints so these could be stash reduction quilts, though I'm sure I might find a few "new" prints. I have the watermelon fabric too ,bought for a Summer table cloth many years ago, never got made!
Pleased to hear that your craft storage problem has worked itself out, there"s always a way.
Have a great Monday.
Ruth

How wonderful, to have a quilt loved that long and that much!!

I sure hope that's the case for the quilts I make and pass along, I sometimes wonder if they won't be used for the dog in its crate, but then I do like dogs.

Have a wonderful day!

Glad to hear that you've solved the crafts dilemma for the time being. How lovely that the grandson is still using the quilt you made when he was much younger.

Susan, you never cease to amaze me with your talent. I love this quilt you made for Jesse. And, I know he loves it, too.

Great I-Spy quilt!! Was the Groucho-schnoz block printed fabric or applique? Love it!!

Applause for your decision for the large closet's future as your other-crafts supply center. That's a dream come true.

Am finished with the Laurel Burch Christmas panel (2005) quilt except for the hand stitching on the binding. The label is already made, too. DS1 and GF don't leave for GA until the 21st. Time to spare! Yipeee!

Hugs!

Isn't it fun to see the old quilts come home for a short time (usually cleaning!). Your I Spy is great. BTW, I clicked through your quilted postcards and love them. Would you be okay with my setting my computer screen background with the Emmett Kelly SMILE card? Then every time I boot up, I'll remember to keep smiling!

When I came home yesterday with the quilt I took it into Jesse's room. I went to lay it on his bed, but before it had a chance to hit the bed he grabbed it. It was so funny. He does love that quilt. You are going to have to make him a newer, bigger one so that I can put that one up for his child. His big 'ole feet stick out when he is sleeping.

great I spy quilt
wow what wonderful idea to include pictures in it
having a craft closet sounds like the perfect solution. If you so decide you can give away a few things at a time

What a COOOOOL quilt! I love the 'I SPY' theme! You do wonderful pieces, Susan! Cannot WAIT to see the bunny quilt finished! And GREAT idea about keeping your craft supplies in the closet! You never know when you will decide you need them! Finally - ITALY????? WOW! Is that a dream or something you really aspire to? (Sophie will have to learn to bark in Italian! LOL!) LOVE YOU!

It makes you feel so good to see a quilt used and loved! After all it's use, it's still looking good!
