I hate binding large quilts. And the Country Girl Sampler is really really big--something like 88" x 100". I haven't made a quilt that big in a long time.
Well I cut, stitched, and pressed the binding this morning and now have it attached to the front of the quilt--and my shoulders are killing me. Now all I have to do is hand-stitch the binding to the front, sew on the hanging sleeve and the label, and this quilt will be done. I love it, even though it is wonderfully large and hard to manipulate under the sewing machine.
Now that this Country Girl is almost finished, I'm looking forward to starting on Jesse's Morning Star. I have already been playing with the fabric and planning how many blocks and what size. This is going to be another big one to fit his queen-size bed and have plenty of side drop. Then I think I'll go back to smallies.
By the by, I see with some sadness that my last post about Donald's Washington Monument drew some ire, and some readers vowed to never read my ravings again. That's ok. But I would like them to know, if they do happen to sneak back, that I am truly sorry if I hurt their feelings--execept for that woman who called the Women's Marchers vulgar. That got my own knickers in a knot. When someone who supports for president a maniac who brags about sexually assaulting women and explains that he's able to easily do it because he's a "star," and then calls millions of American marching for human rights (even her rights) vulgar, I'm simply nonplussed. And, fyi, not one arrest was made throughout the country, among all the millions of marchers. The only arrest in connection with the marches was a Trump supporter who spit on a marcher--or maybe he threw water on her. I don't remember which. But he was arrested.
To the others who said goodbye, if you'll come back, I'll try my very bestest to never utter Donald's name on this blog again. It's just as conditions grow more and more inhuman and dangerous, and our country and our world suffers, I have a hard time dealing. I've never been afraid to post any of my feelings here. My blog has always been one of my safe places. But I reiterate my apologies to the people whose feeling I hurt. That was not my intention.

The quilt is beautiful! Will you show how you put on the hanging sleeve and label? Mine never look nice!

Your blog is just that: yours. You are free to express your feelings and opinions here. If someone doesn't agree with you, that is their privilege but they don't have to read your blog. Continue to write whatever you want. It is helpful in these stressful times.
Your quilt is coming together beautifully. I never cared much for samplers, but this one I love for the colors, blocks and fabrics you chose. My favorite blocks are those you substituted for some in the original pattern.

Write what you want to in your blog. No need to let someone censor you or you to apologize. That is what is wrong....people want us to shut up and accept this new administration. I love your post of the monument. Gave me a good chuckle.

I agree with what you said. And - we are living in scary times. Love your blog and your quilts!

Thank you for your honesty, Susan! You are not alone! I keep thinking, "I'm in the majority! I voted for Hillary!" I think our country has blundered into very dangerous territory. Jodi Picoult's Small Great Things is an excellent read on our current state of affairs. AND I really enjoy seeing your quilts--you are an amazing quilter! Thank you!

Please don't feel that you have to censor what you write, you are never going to please everyone and it is not your job to please everyone, just yourself.
Love your blog and your sewing and your courage to speak your mind

Well... as of last night, it has gotten worse. I'm afraid that this is only the beginning. But, we have to believe that somehow it will all work out. Thank goodness we have our quilting to take our minds off what we can't change. Hugs from the sheep ranch in Petaluma.

Never apologize for doing what is right and never ask for forgiveness from a bigot!

I enjoy reading your opinions and observations, and I hope you continue to write whatever you want. Our country is built upon freedom of expression - you needn't apologize! And I particularly enjoy looking at your gorgeous quilts!

Speak your mind, it is appreciated. And so are your beautiful pieces of art and your cuddly, scamps of pets!

This is YOUR blog, so say just what you want to or need to and let the chips (or those humiliated by their votes?) take their toys and go home. Their choice.
Love your progress on your Country Girl sampler! Soon it will be finished!!!!!!!!!
Hugs!

You have absolutely no reason to apologize. For humor to be good, there has to be some amount of truth to it.
As to the Women's March being vulgar, I marched and it was beautiful. Sometimes to get people to listen to you, you just have to use their language. :-)

Your posts are interesting: quilting, books and opinions or whatever, so keep on going! It's your space and you have a right to voice your opinions, just as celebrities do. Sorry but that is my other pet peeve. People being told they should just entertain and not voice their opinions. Good luck on your next quilt!

I am new to your blog but so far I have really enjoyed your insight and your beautiful quilts. You have no need to apologize for your views on your blog. As women we tend to apologize too often. We need to learn when to apologize and when not too.

Bravo.... PLEASE keep speaking your mind/feelings. If more people had spoken up to Hitler who knows what would have happened. PLEASE DO NOT LET A FEW SILENCE YOU.
Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, we now have a crude bully for a president and that saddens me. Along with realizing how disrespectful he is towards those who disagree with him, as well as women and minorities, I never realized how mean-spirited and downright ugly his supporters are.
Hope their ugliness stays away from blogs such as yours. Remember unlike Russia you have a RIGHT to speak your mind.

I look forward to reading your blog every week. Your quilts are so beautiful. And I very much appreciate you expressing your opinion. We should always speak out against wrongdoing.
Thank you

I commented on your original post Susan, but stand with you and these other lovely women who have commented here......your blog, your opinions, your authentic self....keep it going.....and please don't feel the need to apologize to anyone who took exception to your opinion.

I have enjoyed reading your blog for a while now. I rarely comment on blogs, but would like to send a big 'thank you' for your comments, and as others have said, please don't apologise!
We have enough of of our own problems in the UK (what a misnomer that is now!) but thought things couldn't get worse after 'Brexit'. How wrong we were!
As for someone calling the Womens marches 'vulgar', how very bizarre. We had an old expression in the North of England "kettle calling the pot black" which seems to fit!
Best wishes.

More people need to step up as you have, Susan. Congrats on just being you & as the others have said - certainly no need to apologize for what you believe. ❌⭕❤

Susan, please don't feel that you have to apologize. I didn't see your original post, but I'm glad that you spoke what was on your mind. Two of my 60's daughters marched in StL. I knitted the pink hats for them and some friends.
We are right to be concerned and afraid at the way this administration is conducting itself. We need to get involved and do whatever we can to resist the evil and hatred that is so prevalent now.

More than ever we need the courage to speak out against bigotry, hatred, racism, and (fake news) fear-generating attacks on our democracy. No apologies needed for critical thinking and commitment to "going high."
Still, she persists.
And keep sharing your wonderful quilts too!
