Hail! Hail! Most of the Gang Is Here

Gang

Miss Bella still doesn't spend too much time on my bed. And Jesse is perfectly happy to stay in his own bed. But the rest of the household thinks they are co-owners of my queen-size. Sometimes makes sleeping a little tricky for me. God love 'em.

I had a great weekend. I didn't do much on Saturday, but I was on the go yesterday. Church in the morning; then home to enjoy a bucket of chicken (KFC) with Jesse; then some reading and a short nap; then to my good friend Sherry's house to help her, her husband, her family (including a gaggle of grandkids), and her friends celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary. There was good food and fellowship and a wonderful memories-inducing slide show on the telly. A wonderful night.

I have to confess, though, that I haven't accomplished any granny-square making since my last post. I have a total of 50 blocks made. Ten more and I'll be halfway to finished with the blocks. So that's my goal this week: to make ten granny square quilt blocks, starting NOW.

Too cute! I suggest you look into getting two "kitty cups" as those are the sweet havens our two cats love most. They prefer them to sharing our bed except on the coldest of nights. Quite possibly, Soph and Skipper might like them, too, as kitty cups are very cozy.

Cheers for a good weekend, for a sweet celebration with friends, and good KFC! Your Granny Squares will wait for you while you play elsewhere.

Rainy day here, so I plan to sew the label in Roses in Winter and turn my attention to straightening up my sewing room some more. Wish me inspiration to find better storage in the small room.

Hope your spoons are in endless supply!

Hugs!

Scraps, Soph, and Sewing

Scraps

Above is a look at some of the scraps I received from my scrap swap partner, Toni. I love them. Every single one of them is different from anything I have in my stash, I think. And that's amazing, because I have lots and lots of fabric and scraps.

Soph1
Sophie wanted to say hey before her most recent haircut grows out and she's again a bushy ball of fur. I'm frustrated with the groomings I'm getting for her. Last time was a disaster. This time, the haircut looks pretty good, but the groomer cut a big black mole on Sophie's back (which I tell them about every time), and it's just now healing. I guess I should get the vet to remove it. She knows about it too but has never suggested removing it.

Grannies8

Still making grannies. I've been averaging two a day this week, through yesterday. I have some other projects to take care of today, but I hope to get my two grannies made too.

What great scraps you recieved from Toni. Seriously lots of joy-joy colors and patterns to play with. Have fun!

Miss Sophie looks so prim, proper, and too cute in this pose. I suppose the vet does need to consider removing the mole if it poses a problem or hazzard when she's groomed.

Cheers for your growing collection of finished Granny Squares!!

I continue to try to make better use and sense of my itty bitty sewing room.

Hugs!

Wow Susan, there are some wonderful scraps there, so much variety, I love them. Sweet Sophie looks like a puppy groomed like that, I love that too. Truly looking at Sophie is like looking at a picture of my Sadie Jo. I swear they are twins. She is a poodle/schnauzer mix and was badly abused before we got her away from her abusive owner at 15 months old. But after she got well, massive vet bills and weeks later, she started putting on a few pounds and gradually grew to look so much like Sophie that it is amazing. I too hate it when the groomers cut her too short. We finally found a wonderful groom who we trust with both of our furry kids, even Sadies sis, Friskie who is 12 and has cancer. They are so careful and tender with her, both dogs hate going, but the always come home happy...tired, but happy. They also always get cut exactly as we ask and that is hard to find. My favorite look for them both though, is when they have grown out just a bit and start to get that puppy look about them. Life wouldn't be nearly so good without furry kids in our lives. They bring lots of joy, love and laughter to our home along with lots of love and comfort when I'm down and out with the BHJS and Fibro. Now if I could have a cat, it would complete our little family, but with the doggie doors we couldn't keep one in, and I won't have a cat running loose outside. So, in time, when we no long need the doggie doors open, we will get a cat or two from a shelter. Loved your wake up cat post. I miss the purring alarm clocks, LOL. Hugs...

My Alarm Cat

Photo-1

"Good morning, SuSu. Time to love on your favorite cat. Purr purr purr purr purrrrrrrrrr."

He is right up in my face, where he settles himself each morning, demanding I pet him.

Hi Susan -
LOL - He's demanding that you pet him, AND he's also thinking "SuSu, you must get up and feed me" He is so cute. I lost my cat a couple of weeks ago, she died from heart failure. I miss her purring in the morning and running to meet me at her food dish.

Wishing you many blessings,
Linda

We have an alarm cat, too. Tom sleeps on a guest bed in front of an uncurtained east window. He usually starts meowing at 8a, rarely at 7a, and sometimes at 9a. If I ignore him, he will take a flying leap from the dresser and land on DH's stomach - OOOFF! I do try to get up before that happens.

I really need to get a black-out curtain for that window!

Heaven help me, I'm trying to reorganize my itty bitty sewing room where too much non-sewing stuff has landed somehow. Glub, glub!

Hugs!

Crisis on an April Morn

Tues1

Jesse woke me at 6:30 this morning to tell me that he had locked his keys in his truck. He doesn't have a spare because he lost it long ago and never got another one made in spite of all my nagging at him to do so.

Why is it that when disaster strikes, I'm the one who is supposed to fix it? What if I had not been here? What would Jesse have done?

Well, I was here, so I called the police station. The dispatcher lady told me that they weren't allowed to open locked cars anymore because the city council won't let them. I didn't know that the city council gets to tell the police what to do. So that was news to me. I asked the lady if she had any suggestions. She told me to call Ryans Automotive, which I did.

A very nice man from Ryan's came and quickly unlocked Jesse's truck, for which he charged us a mere $50. Fifty dollars to drive five miles and poke a stick down beside the truck window and open it! Oh yeah, and write a receipt for $50.

Jesse's main complaint was that now he didn't have time to go by McDonald's and get a biscuit.

I know I was stupid when I was young too. And I do have compassion now for those adults who had to deal with me when I was young and stupid. But I thought I had done enough paying back after having gone through my own children's young and stupid periods. Guess not.

And don't tell Jesse, but I once locked my keys in my car at the dry cleaners with the motor running. Fortunately, that was back in the day when you could get a cop to help you break into your own car.

One disaster fixed; on to the next one.

Jesse told me that the upstairs vacuum was broken; it wouldn't suck and the brush wouldn't turn. I asked him if he checked to see if the belt was broken. "Huh?" he answered.

So after the truck was unlocked; dogs were let out and let in and let out and let in; coffee was consumed; and pills were swallowed, I came upstairs to check the vacuum. No broken belt. No broken nothing. It was just packed so full of dust, dirt, animal hair, fabric giblets, and who knows whatall, that the automatic cutoff had kicked in. With all the dirt and trash cleaned out, it works like a charm.

That's all the crises I plan to attend to today. So if anything else needs attention, best call 911. SuSu is closed for the day.

Before I go, below are a few more photos of springtime around the Yellow House.

Tues2
The azaleas are in full bloom.

Tues4
The pale pink ones have been here ever since the house was built in 1995.

Tues5
Weeding, cleaning, and mulching needed under the bird feeder.

Tues6
The greenery is perking up.

Tues7
Hostas are awake and growing.

Tues8
This one came awake much paler than last year. Maybe it needs some fertilizer.

Tues9
Our wooded area is putting on a show with phlox, grapevine, and poison oak.

Tues1-
Hydrangeas are getting ready to bloom.

Oh, thanks for the good chuckles!!

I have to say it's been only a few years since DH was locked out of his car while it was running in our driveway - and we had to call for someone to come unlock the car. I had reminded him to get an extra key made to the point of being called a nag before this happened and it was difficult not to smile in vindication when that happened!

Isn't it a little guilty pleasure to be able to fix something a whiz kid has no clue about?! Our sons are able to do nearly everything but a vacuum cleaner seems beyond them. Tee hee!!!

Love the glorious flowers that adorn the Yellow House during the springtime!

Enjoy having your feet up, sipping tea, and forwarding all distress calls to 911!

Hugs!

What a way to start the day!! One way to look at it is that things have to get better for the rest of the day. Enjoy the rest of your "crisis free" day. Your azaleas are beautiful. So full and fluffy. We've been invaded by canker worms and everything that should have leaves have none. YUK. They are nasty. You need an umbrella just to walk around the yard. They fall from the trees and get all over you. I HATE worms!!

My ex-husband, who will remain nameless, used to lock his keys in his car frequently. The most exasperating was when he went to play golf in Pell City, called me at home in Leeds and got me to drive to Pell City with the spare key, unlock his car and turn off the engine! He didn't have time to get someone there to help him get into the car because he didn't want to be late for tee off.

OK, Sue - I am going to tell you this as I tell it to myself. The young adults these days are helpless because we let them be. There was no reason in the world for you to be involved with his key situation. He is a grown man. You are incredibly generous to let him live with you (and I know you enjoy having him around), but he needs to understand that this is YOUR house and he can't make decisions about things like kittens without discussing it with you. When he encounters problems, he needs to handle those problems as if he were living alone. We cannot continue to baby these adult children/grandchildren. We are not doing them any favor.

I have to tell you, I take special pride in knowing how to handle these things by myself. Being single and "of a certain age" I don't have someone else to rely on. (The cats are no help whatsoever.) But I do know who to call if the issue is bigger than I can handle. And even though some days I don't feel like finding my big girl panties and taking care of it all, I know I'll feel better once everything is fixed. And then when the car is running properly and the furnace is working and the vacuum is doing its thing, I think my big girl panties aren't so bad after all.

Linda, I agree with everything you said. My daughter lost both sets of keys to her car while in high school, despite warnings from us to see about getting new keys. It cost quite a bit to have copies made and we made her pay out of her allowance, a sum each month, till all was paid for. She's very careful of her keys now. Tough love pays off in the end.

Hi Susan! What an adventuresome morning you had! It sounds like this quote that I just received this week in a friend's newsletter: "I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once." LOL!

I have three young adults still living at home with us: 29, 27, and 26....there's no way I wouldn't help any of them if their keys were locked in the car. I've taken my son his lunch at work many times when he's forgotten it. I'm a mom and that's what moms do...help their family...no matter the age. Jesse is indeed blessed to have you!

Your flowers are just lovely...we're not that far along but I can tell it won't be long now!

Treasures

Mon1

We had my sweet goddoggie Miss Daisy for the weekend. Look what her folks brought me back from their trip when they picked her up yesterday, the beautiful begonia in the photo above.

The first thing Taco wanted to do when he saw it was eat it, so the plant makes its home on the back porch, away from plant-loving Taco. It looks really pretty out there, I think.

Mon2

My sister Ramey and I made a trip to the thrift store on Saturday morning, the first time I had been in months. Found a great treasure to add to the other wicker pieces on my back porch, the rocker in the photo above. Now if I can just find a wicker settee and maybe a coffee table, my set will be complete.

I have to make a seat cushion for the chair. When I do, I'll make a matching one for the other wicker rocker that neighbors Paul and Karen gave me from their beach condo--the one you can see part of in the first photo. I'm thinking maybe blue denim or chambray for the cushions--but that could change by the time I get around to making them. Presently, the first rocker has an ugly pale green cushion. The new one doesn't have a cushion at all, but it's still right comfy for sitting.

Love your beautiful begonia in its pretty blue pot! How thoughtful of Daisy's folks to bring it to you as thanks for your dog-sitting assistance.

I hear you on having a cat who regards potted plants or flowers in vase as salad ready for consumption by said cat. Our Tom is the same way and all plants spend nights up high or in my sewing room behind its screen door (with a hook/eye closure to thwart cats!).

What a charming wicker rocker was awaiting you on your thrifting outing! It will certainly be a delight to choose fabric for its cushion and for the other wicker chair, too. Good luck in the hunt for the wicker settee and coffee table to complete the delightful seating arrangement for your porch. Do I remember it's a screened porch? Hope so! Get the pitchers of lemonade and sweet tea ready!

Today is our 41st wedding anniversary and I cannot believe it even tho I've been here for every day of it. Where did the time go?

Hugs!

A Few Grannies Short

Grannies

My goal has been to make at least one granny square block a day. I haven't kept a count on a average basis, but I know I missed making one a day last week. Here are the four I made. I guess I had better make a few extra next week to catch up. I think I have a total of 44, so I can't be too far behind.

Correction: I'd looked back through my blog entries to find out when I started making granny square blocks. Turns out I made the first one on February 7, so I am considerably more behind than I thought I was. So I think I'll set my goal for two blocks a day until I get the required number, 120 to make a quilt big enough for my bed--and I plan to use this quilt on my bed.

May I ask if you have your light border triangles already cut as triangles or if they're squares until you trim the block?

Torrential rain last night has been followed by a sunny, chilly day and that's a pleasant change.

Hope you're feeling good!

Susan, it is going to be beautiful, I can't wait to see the finished quilt, though I know it will be a while. I love your blocks so much. I would love to start one but I have promised myself I would take care of a quilt for my grandson's wedding coming up in the Fall of next year. I'm not a fast quilter, because (I know you can understand) I have a lot of down days with my BHJS and Fibro. We raised this grandson from birth, so this needs to be a special quilt. Then, maybe I'll start some granny blocks. Gentle Hugs...

Scrapping

Scraps2

I joined Victoria Findlay Wolfe's 15 Minutes of Play scrap swap last week. This morning I dipped into my massive scrap bag and filled a gallon size ziplock bag to send to my swap partner. That's it in the photo above. But I declare! I can hardly tell that my big old scrap bag has gone down a bit. It's like washing dishes and it seems like there's a hole in the bottom of the sink where somebody is putting more dishes in faster than you can wash them. I still have lots and lots and lots of scraps. And more are on the way. I'll get a gallon size ziplock bag full of new scraps, maybe some I don't have in my bag already, from my swap partner. I'm sort of getting tired of seeing the same old scraps every time I look for pieces for the Granny Square blocks.

Great idea to swap scraps so your Granny Square blocks will have a greater variety of fabrics in them. It is amazing what different fabrics are available at different shops and especially in different parts of the country not to mention what fabrics another quilter would choose for her stash. What fun!!

I am trying to gear up to tidy up my sewing room. It looks like a hurricaine has blown thru and in this small space, that makes doing any sewing a big problem. Due to family medical issues, Nancy Drew has become a UFO and is taking up too much space.

Hugs!

Swapping scraps is a great idea. With the cost of quality fabrics being so dear these days that's a great way to add more variety to your scrap stash without spending more money. I'll bet you can hardly wait to receive the bundle your friend is sending you to see what goodies you will get!

How's your ankle this morning, I hope the swelling has gone down and it's not troubling you too much. I just got back from my doctor's office. More pills, more pills, more pills.....ICK!!!

Settling Down

Zin1
I saw these red and pink zinnias at Walmart the other day and decided they were just the thing to set in my little red wagon and brighten up my back porch. Now I have to get some petunias and impatiens for container gardening in the back yard, and that will be it for my gardening this year I think.

I seem to have my emotions somewhat under control now; and the Animal Kingdom has settled down too. Miss Daisy, my goddog, came for a visit last night while her folks enjoy a long weekend with family and friends. Taco does not trust Daisy. He tiptoes on little cat feet whenever he is in the same room with her. The hackles on his back stand at attention, and he slinks off to a dark spot. Daisy doesn't give him the time of day. I'm not sure she even knows he's here. Sissy cat.

I got hanging sleeves made for two more quilt show quilts yesterday and got one sewn on. Also got another Granny Square block sewn. I think that makes 40 blocks so far.

After all the whoop-de-do of the past couple of days, my left ankle was swollen to the size of an elephant's foot last night. I think maybe I aggravated that knee having my hissy fit or either trying to get control of the husky dog on Monday. The knee is a little sensitive. although nothing like the pain of a few weeks ago. I put an ice pack on my ankle last night and this morning almost all the swelling is gone. If the problem persists, I'll call Dr. N. and tell him.

Looking forward to another day of sewing today. I have two more hanging sleeves to sew on and several labels to create and attach, and my quilts will be ready for the June quilt show.

Fibro makes us hypersensitive, to light, sound, smells etc,, and yes emotions. It has just been too much for you. Pain wears us down. On top of the fatigue. Be kind to yourself. Ok? Very hard to give ourselves a break, even when we need it.

Meltdown

It was probably a long time coming, that emotional meltdown I had yesterday. Who's to say which straw put the crimp in the camel's back or which one broke it? The almost constant pain and fatigue? Our country's most recent act of terrorism? Or this 6

Woof2

Jesse came in from work yesterday afternoon with that beautiful creature in tow. Actually, I'm not sure who was towing whom. The doggie is much stronger than he looks.

Jesse had gone by his dad's house to find that his stepmom had captured this boy. He had been roaming the neighborhood and Debbie was afraid he would get hit by a car on their busy street. Whatever caused Jesse to decide to bring him to our house I do not know. But the beautiful beast certainly contributed to the meltdown.

But let's go back to the beginning. I woke up yesterday morning feeling drained. My back was spasming big time, and all I could think of was how badly the back porch and all its furnishings were in need of washing to get rid of the pollen. Just the thought made the pain spread.

I diddled through the day as best I could. I didn't do any porch scrubbing, or much of anything else really. Straightened up the kitchen a bit, made the bed, and sewed a hanging sleeve on the "September" quilt. It was around 4:00, I think, before I became aware of the Boston Marathon bombing.

That, I suppose, was the straw. Because I started crying and couldn't stop. With each new image or report or the carnage, the tears increased. Finally, I got the sobbing under control just before Jesse showed up with the pooch, settled him into the backyard, and took off with his friend Devon for a four-wheeler ride.

One more life form to care for.

I won't go through all the details. Suffice to say that some of those details included me trying to get the doggie into my car to take him to Andy's house, and him pulling me all over the yard by his leash; Andy showing up after I got the dog back inside the fence; Andy putting doggie into her car; me making her take him back out and return him to the backyard (I think I was totally insane by this point); and Andy going home. All the time, off and on (mostly on), I'm sobbing. I haven't cried so much or so hard since September 2009.

Now I know, any sane person would have simply said, "No, Jesse. We can't have another animal. Take him back where you got him."

But at that point, you could hardly call me sane. I couldn't think what to do. All I could think of was Boston's dead and maimed and me living in an animal preserve. My brain wouldn't function.

Anyway, Jesse returned, calmly told me he was taking the dog back to his stepmom, put him in his truck, and drove away. That was that. He returned shortly thereafter with no dog. He said the dog was very happy to be back at Debbie's house. Today I'm going to make flyers and Jesse and Andy are going to put them up in the neighborhood where the doggie was found.

If anyone is up for adopting a beautiful husky, this one will be available if we don't find the owner within the next week or so.

Case closed--I hope.

I finally stopped crying at about midnight last night. I awoke this morning with a terrible headache (which is now gone) and allover body pain (which isn't). I'm very tired too. Maybe that was good for me though. Maybe all those tears got rid of some of the toxins, emotional if not physical. I can only hope.

God bless the people of Boston. Please, God, help our world purge itself of the hatred.

Susan,
I just read your previous posts to catch up with what's been going on with you. Glad your knee is better! Hope the rest of your aches and pains get better also. I feel older than what I am every day :(
The Boston bombing is just awful and makes me so sad to watch it. What is the world coming to? The doggie is adorable and I am like you I don't need another animal around my house right now. I love them all but enough is enough :)
Hope the rest of your day is good!
Hugs,
Donna

Amen, sister!

As my Grandma used to say, "Keep tears inside and they turn to vinegar making you sour. Let the tears come."

Chronic pain and chronic illness are wearing on every part of you and on every nerve you have. You're not the first or the last to burst into tears when the straw that broke the camel's back lands. We can sit on that bench together!

I'm glad this lost and beautiful Huskie is no longer at your house and hope his/her owner sees the flyers.

The horrors caused by hate are such a heartbreak and in so many cases, the hate has been taught to the children. Why? What a tragedy for everyone.

Wishing you well and I mean really WELL.

Big but gentle hugs!

On 04/16/2013, Linda Volz said ...

Hi Susan -
Huskie's are gorgeous animals but one thing anyone who is thinking of getting one should know up front...they are runners and they love to wander. A 6 ft chain link fence is no obstacle for them, they will sail over it like it's not even there. They are beautiful but wanting to go exploring is just part of their nature. This beautiful "beastie" belongs to someone who is probably looking frantically for it and I know you will find the owner soon.

I'm sorry you are not feeling well, constant chronic pain is very wearing and your poor nerves are probably just raw which is why the events that took place in Boston have hit you so hard. You need some TLC, some rest and quiet, unplug the TV, computer, radio & any other device that will have any sad reports on it. These things are terrible but let someone else who is a little stronger right now grieve for them. Right now, you need to take care of you.

I wish I lived closer, I would come bring you some tea and cake to make you feel better.

Wishing you blessings,
Linda

I'm afraid Sophie would join Skipper in the escape to China digging if the huskie moved in! Those two would be outta' there! I'm so glad to hear Andy & Jesse have moved on to Plan B. The unexplainable evil and horror in Boston hits us as a nation...to cause such mayhem upon innocent souls celebrating with so many from around the world...just defies reason.

Sometimes a meltdown is the only way to go! It's exhausting, it's inconvenient, but it's like a good rain - clears the muck in the air! I love you, Susan, and hope you start feeling TONS better. It's HARD these obnoxious pains that we never invite but which visit us anyway. Treat your sweet lil' self well!!!

Been Baking

300278_358507960922599_504836105_n
I just baked this, the easiest coconut custard recipe you could imagine. The pie makes its own crust. Here's the recipe.

157015_494210043961247_790786372_n
Later on, I'm going to make this. There's a secret to this recipe too. Dump a bunch of fruit in a bowl; pour a box of instant vanilla pudding over it; mix.

And what, you ask, am I planning to do with these treats? Tonight is the monthly meeting of my Walk to Emmaus Reunion Group. It's always potluck, and these are my pots.

Happy Sunday, everyone. It's raining here.

I am intrigued by the fruit salad recipe, too.

AMIL is HOME from the hospital! All of her tests were normal and she is past delighted to be home, as we are to have her home. Thank you for your prayers.

Hope you're rested, are feeling lots better, and that the coming week's schedule is blank and stays that way.

A Wicked Week

Gran 1

This week has definitely been one for the books. Way too many appointments, errands, and running hither and yon. I feel like I need a week in bed just to get over it.

Monday: Guild meeting
Tuesday: Deliver Nancy Drew quilt to quilter/rest of day at court house getting car tag
Wednesday: Annual physical/mammogram/bone density; and grocery shopping
Thursday: Appointment with tax lady and news of a huge tax bill due, laundry
Today: Have Sophie to groomer early, finish laundry

In the spaces between running here and there, I did get a little bit of quilting done--a few more Granny Squares pieced and the binding on another quilt, "September," which I received from Craig (who quilted it) Monday at guild.

And I'm paying. Terrible back muscle spasms this morning, and muscle relaxer not helping. I think it's just my body fussing at me, telling me I've pushed it too far.

I still have one more load of laundry to do, and I have to pick up Sophie this afternoon. Then I think I'm going to give the body what it's asking for and rest for a while.

Bless your heart and other parts, dear Susan. What a week you've had. Indeed, just say "No, thanks" to doing more than resting and getting the tax payment in the mail.

Please keep AMIL in your prayers as she had a sinking spell today (probably low blood sugar as OJ helped), After 8+ hours in the ER, she's in the hospital tonight for observation, hydration, and food. When feeling bad with her gallbladder this week, she just didn't feel like eating or drinking much of anything. Low blood sugar was right on target but the rest of her tank was far too low, too.

Too bad we cannot share a room like in Willie Wonka and keep each other company while we fall apart and rest up!

Hugs!

Another Trying Day Ahead

Bella on quilt
Wish I could spend the day doing what Bella is doing.

I spent almost the entire day yesterday at a court house annex attempting to renew auto tags. I had, as always, sent my check off in the mail to have them renewed. But I got my check back with a letter telling me I needed to send a copy of my deceased husband's driver's license. When I called to explain that I could not do such a ridiculous thing, I was then told that I would have to come in and have his name removed from the title of my car (both our names were on it). Couldn't do that by mail; had to come in. So I did.

When I arrived yesterday morning, there were approximately 100 people ahead of me, being served by three cashiers. A quick estimate told me that each person was requiring an average of 10-15 minutes at the cashier's window.

We were, thank God, given seating for the first half of the wait. Well, that wasn't all good. I was seated next to a man whose breath smelled like a dead animal. Thank goodness, it was only noticeable when he spoke. Unfortunately, he spoke A LOT! And I couldn't change seats without risking losing my place in line.

When I finally got to the cashier's window, she had only just begun to serve me when her supervisor or somebody came up to her and told her she had forgot to do an auto inspection. So she had to leave me hanging and go and do her inspection. When she returned, I had all kinds of questions to answer and forms to fill out and sign, etc., etc., etc. When I got away from there, instead of doing the other errands I had on my list, I came immediately home and lay down.

The hassle continues today. I have appointments with gynecologist and mammogram lab at midday. My body is so achy and sore, especially my back and legs, that I don't know how my annual physical exam is going to go. If you're a lady reading this, you know that some amount of contortion is required to get into position for these exams. I just keep telling myself, this time tomorrow it will be but a memory. It's what form that memory is going to take that really bugs me now.

In the name of "security" we all have to do those stupid things for licenses and titles nowadays. Whoever heard of having to have your marriage license to renew your license??? Sorry you're having a rough few days.

On 04/10/2013, Kerrie said ...

I remember having to do all that after Bill died, Everytime I went to the courthouse in another city, I cried all the way home. Seems like it should be a lot simpler. :(

On 04/10/2013, Barbara Anne said ...

Bless your heart and other achy parts! I'd have thought the death certificate would be all that was needed, too. Methinks the person who told you to bring Vann's driver's license misspoke or you need to raise Cain with the powers that be who make bereaved folks find a driver's license after years have passed. Ridiculous! How is a driver's license proof anyway? Geeze Louise!

Hope by now you're home again and are curled up next to Bella following her good example.

Be good to you, circle the wagons, and tuck in for as long as needed. Hope you have leftovers for dinner or call out for delivery.

Big hugs!

On 04/10/2013, Sheryl Colle said ...

So sorry for the hassle they put you through. There is just something about going to those license places that sends dread all through my body. I always take a book, because I know it is going to be a long wait. I did notice the last time I went to get mine in Shelby county, though, the lady I got was just really friendly. That was so unusual, however, because they usually take their sweet time, and hardly give you the time of day. Wonder if they are trying to improve their image? Apparently not where you go. :(

April Guild

The April meeting of Birmingham Quilters Guild was a busy one yesterday. Program time was devoted to our June quilt show. Our quilt show chairman Judy spoke to us, giving us, among other things, a few pointers on what our judges will be looking at when judging our quilts. Then we had the opportunity to go around to the various committee chairmen's tables and volunteer for jobs.

But even though our meeting was largely devoted to serious business (the quilt show), we still made time for some fun show-and-tell. I didn't get everything photographed, but what I did shoot, you can see below.

I bound the two quilts above last week. I have one more to bind and then I have to make sure all my quilt show quilts have labels and hanging sleeves.

Now I must shower and get ready to run a bunch of errands.

How marvelous each and every eye candy quilt is! Thank you for sharing these glorious quilts with us. Your "Scottish Star" is so striking and wonderful and I adore "Blackberry Creek"!!

I finally finished the binding on my "Roses in Winter" UFO so all it needs is a label. Yes, all in the same lifetime!

Did you see the "Now it's time to say good-bye" article about Annette Funicello's death yesterday? I feel like I lost a childhood friend as I was not quite 5 years old when the Mickey Mouse Club first aired.

Hope you're feeling great!

What beautiful quilts! I like your Scottish Star best of all, and the "Blackberry Creek" is great! The one on the clothesline with lots of white looks like my kind of quilt. I have some star blocks that MER made, and I intend to make an Amish-style top with them. Someday.

I love your quilts! I'm not sure if I favor one over the other - although I like quilts that are one of a kind (the Blackberry quilt). I think they are just great! Congratulations.

Small Pleasures

Prize2
Last week, during one of our family game nights, I won the prize Jed brought for the person who prevailed in the first game of Dixit. The large pink diamond-shaped crystal is that prize.
I think it has brought me good fortune.

For the first time in weeks, I was able to take the dogs for a walk this morning. Sophie was so excited. I was standing at the bedroom window, looking out at the grey day. I muttered, "I think it's stopped raining. We could go for a walk."

Sophie immediately jumped down from her chair and started barking, which I translated to mean, "Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes, OH HECK  YES!"

So we did. It was drizzly, and we got a little wet, but I think we all three feel better for having walked. I didn't push it. I told the dogs no hills and no running, and everyone stuck to the rules. I promised them that if my knee and back suffer no ill effects from this walk, we'll do it again tomorrow. I hope I can make good on that promise.

What a pretty first prize and cheers for Jeb to think of getting it for someone - and more cheers that you won it! Won't it sparkle when on a table in the sunshine!

One of my favorite purchases at an antique shop was a round clear glass paperweight with clear bubbles inside. It looks like a bubble posied on the table and is glorious when the sun shines thru it. Think of Pollyanna and envision the rainbows that bounce around the room, too.

I'm delighted you're continuing to feel better and better, too. As they say, you can't beat that with a stick! I can just imagine Sophie and Skipper's jubilation over their walk with Mom.

Please keep AMIL in your prayers. Her asthma acted up and she hasn't been sleeping well. Thanks.

Happy hugs!
