Hacked Off!

Wed2

I'm from the South. One thing we hold dear in the South is niceness and manners. (At least that's the myth we perpetrate.) So I ask whoever the entity was who hacked into my email address book and sent everyone in there a link to a viagra ad: "Why can't you play nice?" It's rude to steal from other people. You don't borrow without asking first.

Many of you reading this received that viagra link. Please discard it (unless you need it) and accept my apologies for the inconvenience. I have never had my computer hacked before. I feel very violated, but mostly just ticked off that people do this kind of thing. There is very little integrity and honesty in the business world any more, is there?

Don't have much else to blog about today. I'm moving slowly this morning, resisting getting on with the chores that need doing--like finishing up my laundry that I started yesterday. Plus there are pictures that need hanging, and the whole second floor (office, sewing room, and guest room) are yet to be straightened up and organized from the painting.

Thanks for all your comments on my photos yesterday. It is very much a good feeling to have all that done. I love sitting in my living room and just being here. I think Sophie does too, as you can see from her photo yesterday. That's where she is right now, as a matter of fact.

I'm shamed to admit that I'm still in my pajamas. So I'm going now to put on some daytime clothes, make the bed, and do another load of laundry. Probably won't make it to the upstairs work today though.

My email account was hacked a couple of months ago. There were viagra and porn ads that went out under my name. It was most dreadful! I am in the education business and it went out to all former and current co-workers. Very dreadful! The only good thing about it was I got back in touch with a friend who I had not talked to in years b/c we were joking about the ads! I changed my password and the hacking stopped! Good luck!

On 06/30/2010, Barbara Anne said ...

Hi Susan,

How horrible to have this happen from your email address BUT my techie 26 year old son says this is unlikely to be from an individual who did this directly to you. Rather, someone along the line opened an odd email that was infected with a virus that automatically sends the Viagra ad to all in that address book and that attaches itself to outgoing emails and can infect the computers of those who receive those emails and open them. If you don't open strange or odd emails, you cannot be infected. The infected email you received was probably from an unsuspecting friend and it looked perfectly normal - and was, except for this stowaway virus. DS2 says you need a professional to rid your computer of this virus.

Into every happy life, jammie days should come. It's okay if this is one for you! Enjoy! Besides, your upstairs rooms will wait for you to be more inclined to get them sorted (yeh, too much BBC!!!).

Hugs!

Heck, I stay in my pajamas all day sometimes, just for fun. You deserve a relaxing day. I hate it when people hack into your computer. Very much dislike...

Sorry to hear you were hacked Susan. The server my blog is on was hacked by the Turkish Martyrs (whoever they might be) a couple of weeks ago and it was such a pain to get it all sorted out again. It really makes you wonder what sort of weird people are out there doing all this stuff. The world would be a much better place if they put their time and energy into something constructive rather than just annoying and inconveniencing the likes of you and me.
Have a good quiet day - sometimes those are just the best! Rock on PJ days!!!

I've received the same email from 2 other people in my address book today so apparently you are in the same boat as others. It's a pain but we know you didn't send it intentionally.

My guess is it is a virus and not a hack job.

A Tuesday Walk Through

Tues13

I had a fine day yesterday. Three of our dearest friends from our old Progressive Farmer days, Kim A., Jim P., and LuAnn S., came out to Leeds and took me to lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant, El Cazador. I think it is now their favorite restaurant too, especially Jim, a real Mexican food connoisseur. We had a joyous time eating, laughing, and talking--and of course reminiscing about Vann. Thank you, guys, for a great visit.

Then it was on to the eye doctor for my annual check-up. I found out why I can't see very well these days. I need new glasses. Should have them in a few days. (This is not a one-hour place.)

Now I just want to show a few photos of the GYHEM progress thus far. Things a still a little sparse in places (and junky in others). I've hung hardly any wall art yet. But I'm so glad that the progress is at least such that I can show a few pictures.

The photos, one and all, are wonderful and I love how you've decorated each and every area shown. The new dining room is beautiful! Applause, applause!!!!

The Country Garden sampler your mother made is a treasure. I've know that sweet little verse for so long I have no idea when or where I first heard it.

The bookmark Wendy made is lovely and so special!

I think I've never seen such a happy ironing board cover. I may have to have one for me and one for AMIL!

Hi to Sophie!

Oh Susan, it's looking so pretty!! And the ironing board cover would make me want to iron! I have a sewing basket just like the one in your picture. It was my husband's grandmother's and I treasure it. It had her sewing notions inside when it was given to me. You should be very proud of the way things are coming together in your home. Your hard work is definitely paying off. I think cooler weather is in store for us. Hope it comes your way too. We've broken records here in SC.

Animal Tales

Get-attachment-1.aspxQuoting that great philosopher Popeye, "Enough is too much!"

I'm not sure I can make it through the rest of the summer. Every time I go outside, I come back in with a headache, soaking wet, and exhausted. Even Sophie doesn't want to go outside this morning.

I don't know that doggie in the picture. I just thought it looked like a good idea, what he's doing.

Speaking of doggies, we had another lost one in the neighborhood last week. His owners are fairly new to the neighborhood, so when they came around looking for their dog, I didn't recognize them--until they described the dog. Then I realized they were talking about the old red dog who comes to play sniff-a-butt with Sophie when we do our walk about. Not sure of his real name; Sophie and I call him Puppa-Dog. He never leaves his yard, but somehow he had wandered off and got lost. He's deaf, I think. Being that he's 18 years old, his owners thought he had gone off somewhere to catch the next train to the Rainbow Bridge. But as they were driving around looking for him, they met a resident of the next street over wheeling Puppa-Dog home in a wheelbarrow. He was back yesterday snoozing the sleep of the just, as usual, under his family's motor boat.

Dead_cat_bounce We also had another dead kitty who wasn't last week. Same place where the last undead kitty lives. (I blogged about that first dead cat not too long ago, but can't remember the exact date of the post.) Sophie and I walked by the house, and there, stretched out and stiff, was the black-and-white kitty. I started to get a stick and poke him (the traditional southern way of determining death), but then I decided to let the poor beast RIP. I was certain this one was gone. I know a dead cat when I see one, as I think I have said before. They have sort of a flat look, like someone has let the air of them. The next day, his little body was gone, and for a week or more, we didn't see him. But yesterday, there his little furry self was, walking up his driveway just like he'd never been dead at all.

Something is definitely going on at that house, dead-catwise. But whatever it is doesn't work on dogs. They've lost at least three canine pets in the last few years, and they don't come back.

I have a lunch date today with some old friends of ours from working days. I haven't seen them since Vann's memorial, and I'm looking forward to the visit. What I'm not looking forward to is drying my hair after my shower. The hair dryer is definitely not my friend these day.

Have a cool one, everybody.

Yes, you're tuning up your descriptive Southern vocabulary for your 1st book a la family tradition, aren't you?! Too funny!

As for the cool dog photo, our cats come in from the heat to sprawl on our cool tile floors and in front of the fan. Ice night be better, but not in the house!

Have fun with your friends!

Hugs of the too-hot-to-really-hug Southern variety ( my family's method is to lean in from a slight distance and lightly pat no more than 3 times!)!

How cool (no pun intended!) that that owner thought to do that for their dog!
Strange about the cats - wonder if they were just in a temporary coma of sorts???
I think I'd just let my hair air-dry - fluff it up with a spray of hair-spray and let it fall where it may. (I'm a fan of low-maintenance hair styles, but I do need a little more perm in it right now).
We've had rain, rain, rain here in Nebraska lately to where our rivers are overflowing, but today wasn't too bad humidity-wise, thank goodness. Stay cool.

Bake-Off

Sat2I spent yesterday morning making pound cakes and yesterday afternoon delivering them to their destinations. Then I spent last night between the bed and the couch, alternately watching stupid late-night tv and reading, trying to deal with pain in legs, hips, feet, arms, and hands. Some better this morning.

Sat1

And today I have to grocery shop, one of my most dreaded chores. The only kinds of shopping I really like are fabric shopping and thrifting. I hate going to the grocery store. But one has to eat. I had rather stay home and work on my dining room. Maybe later.

Happy Saturday, everyone.

Pound cake

P.S. to Prayer Warriors: Would you all please say a prayer today for the Gulf of Mexico. Besides for the oil gushing from that big hole, we now have tropical storm Alex taking aim on the Gulf Coast. I've also read reports recently about the potential for a methane gas explosion at the gusher site that would mean the deaths of thousands of people and animals and the evacuation of the Gulf Coast states. I hope this isn't true. God, I hope this isn't true.

The pound cake looks super yummy! I share your dislike of grocery stores. I used to dread it like the plague and only go late at night, but now I only shop at Whole Foods and I love it. A small-scaled store, not over-lit, limited choices, fresh foods, this I can handle. The gulf situation makes me insanely, incredibly sad. I hope you feel better today.

Oh, perhaps you've required me to make a pound cake this very minute! That cake looks seriously scrumptious!!

Hope you're feeling lots better. I find that Percogesic is a miracle in a pill for my aches.

My prayers for the Gulf coast continue and I've cried buckets for the environment, the creatures, the wetlands, and the people affected. I have only contempt for oil companies that have miserably failed to have procedures in place to quickly and efficiently deal with this type catastrophe. It had to happen somewhere, sometime. Why were they allowed to drill before they were prepared to deal with this situation?

I hadn't heard about Alex or the potential for a methane explosion. How horrific. Please God, no!

Hugs!

YUM to that delicious cake! I'll be right over! But wait - my Susan isn't feeling like entertaining screwballs - er - visitors right now. So I'll go another time when you feel better! Grocery stores: I finally found one I DO like. (I used to feel the same way about grocery shopping.) This one - one of our Central Markets - is AMAZING. Very reasonably priced, and if you can't FIND a product there, it doesn't exist! I could honestly stay in there all day & night! Yarn places are MY fabric stores. Love them! And, of course, bookstores. Incidentally, I read your post way earlier when you first posted it. But that reminder of Alex and the chaotic disaster, compliments of BP, made me have to go off to myself a bit and calm down before I exploded. Looks as tho' (at least at this point) Alex wants to go in a different direction. Thank goodness! I hope that doesn't change. But we are SO not out of the woods because Hurricane season has only begun. Why - oh WHY, WHY, WHY - did I not move to someplace like Utah or Washington State? NO HURRICANES THERE! No really intense heat either. Sigh. Maybe I do need a piece of that cake. I wonder if Miss Sophie could just open the door & let me sneak a slice while you continue resting ... LOL! LOVE YOU!

Yep, I hate grocery shopping, too. We have this wonderful feature at our Harris Teeter grocery stores called Express Shopping. You shop online, set a time for pick up, and then drive through to have your groceries placed in your car. All for the bargain price of $4.95. Peeka-Boo

Hutch

Chair What a day we had yesterday. The furniture truck arrived and commenced to unload my crated dining room furniture onto my lawn. Shortly thereafter, Daniel arrived and commenced to mount my new valance. Then here comes Jesse, ready to bring the new furniture in and assemble it.

"Where's your help?" I asked him. He took a good look at the big boxes on the lawn and decided that, yes, he might need some help. So he called his friend Robert, who arrived in two shakes of a lamb's tail.

The boys worked diligently for a couple of hours and had the new furniture inside, uncrated, and assembled. They did good--and it didn't cost me near $250. Plus I was much happier to pay them than some guy I didn't even know at a price that was skylandish. (That word is a cross between sky-high and outlandish.)

Although things are looking good, I'm not near ready to show photos of the entire living room/dining room yet. So you'll have to be content with these little sneak peaks.

Valance

Today, I have bigger fish to fry--or cakes to bake. I had planned to bake two pound cakes yesterday afternoon--one that I promised to our first WOW bake sale of the season, and one that I promised to help feed the pilgrims of Birmingham Walk to Emmaus #57 at Camp Chula Vista this weekend. But by the time all those guys got through with all that work in my house, I was too pooped to bake. So I've got to hurry up and get it done before 2:00 this afternoon.

Stay cool.

Unplugged

Unplugged I finally have my wireless router working again. And you won't believe what I had to go through to get it back. I had to disconnect it from the power source, wait ten seconds, and connect it back. Sometimes I feel like such a dufus when it comes to techno-stuff. I could have been blogging unplugged all this time but instead I had to wait till I got around to calling the Linksys people and having a nice young man with a thick foreign accent tell me what to do.

Remember this, the dining room furniture I ordered back in April? It's finally being delivered today, or at least that's what I'm told. I'm also told it's a curbside delivery, meaning that if I want it brought into the house, uncrated, and assembled, I have to pay $250 more. You know, sometimes you just have to draw the line. And I have drawn one in indelible ink. I told Jesse to assemble a friend or two and be ready for my call this afternoon. We'll get the furniture in ourselves. I told the fellow who told me yesterday that I'd have to pay the $250 to get it inside that I'd rather leave it out in the rain to rot. So well, guess what? It's supposed to rain today. Do you ever wonder if God has a somewhat wicked sense of humor?

DSC00722.JPG

This is the strangest June I can ever remember.  I do recall unseasonably cool Junes, but this weather feels more like the dying days of summer than its infancy. The heat and humidity have been oppressive. There has been little or no visible air pollution (smog), a thing that always goes with high temps and humidity around here.

You know that day in late August, when although it's still hot, still swimming hole weather, you can "feel" Autumn in the air? I can't explain what it is exactly. Sort of an emptiness, like Old Summer has had his fun and he's packing his bags and making his reservations. The first leaves have fallen from the trees, and the next thing you know, little yellow butterflies are crossing the road. There's still plenty of hot weather left to be endured, but this feeling is a promise that October is getting dressed to make her appearance.

The little butterflies haven't shown up yet, but leaves are falling and that empty feeling is definitely in the air. And official summer is only, what, two days old. Strange weather, I tell you.

WaaaHOOOOOOOOO! The new furniture for your dining room is coming today (fingers crossed)!!!

Applause and good for you in refusing to pay to have the furniture brought inside and assembled. Was that information given to you before yesterday's phone call or was it an unwelcome surprise to hear they'd only do curbside delivery??? If you didn't know this when you ordered the furniture, I'd black-ball the company with the better business bureau and whoever else you can think of. That's extortion and should be illegal!

Let's hear it for Jesse and good friends!

Happy dancing will commence once the furniture is assembled and in place!

It's 103*F here, dry as a bone, and the grass is August-crunchy, too. Southern Indiana has had 14" of rain in the last 10 days and we need rain badly. Talk about weird weather. Go figure.

Stay cool!

Hugs!

Wonder exactly what "assemble" means? If you have to assemble those chairs, you might want to cut some squares of that beautiful cloth your l.r. slipcover is made of, and put it over the chair seats. I'm glad your furniture is being delivered--can't wait to see the finished scene!

On 06/24/2010, Melinda said ...

I wish I was close enough to help you get the furniture in. What nerve they have. At least you will have it in your home tonight and can let other be aware of this practice. It is miserably hot here also.

And I am here in California freezing to death. It has been a sweater day every day this week. 63 yesterday. Go figure.
Isn't that delivery fee charge just the biggest racket? Honestly. Thank goodness you have some people you can call on to help you get it in the house. The assembly won't be that bad, I am sure. Just a matter of screwing legs on probably. Once you do the first one, it will be a cinch.

I would just like to confirm to you that God most certainly does have a sense of humor!! That's the only way to explain the years of me asking God for 'children' and them him giving them to me in one shot.

Love the furniture and hope it all goes together smoothly.

It's a CONSPIRACY, I tell you! The airlines & furniture delivery folks have conspired to see if they can tack on every POSSIBLE (and every RIDICULOUS) CHARGE to already hideous prices! Grrrrr! Good for YOU standing your ground! Will you have back-up help just in case it arrives earlier so you can get it in before it rains? And speaking of rain, we were supposed to get TORRENTIAL RAIN & storms yesterday. Nada! Today was supposed to be dry. But the weather folks said it had changed & would be AWFUL. It WAS - across town. Dry as a bone over here. I had planned to get out some today. Instead, I stayed home. MORE GRRRRR! It DEFINITELY doesn't have that Autumn feeling here - tho' I've heard Cicadas - a LOT! THOSE usually make an appeaarnce in Houston around early August! WHAT???? I'd love to skip summer altogether! In fact, it could NEVER come as far as I'm concerned! But we are getting intense heat so it's HERE. No doubt about it. Waiting eagerly to see your dining room set! LOVE YOU!

Love the dining room furniture. Hate the delivery man! Or the company policy, whichever it is. Word: you may have to open some of the boxes outside and carry things in a piece at a time. That table looks heavy, and it will probably come with the legs detached. Hope the china cabinet is in at least two pieces, or you'll need the Incredible Hulk to get it in for you.

On 06/25/2010, niki said ...

Yep, God does have a wicked sense of humor. The other night a storm was coming in and I told my husband that I hope we get a terrific thunder and lightning storm. I've loved them since I was a child. Oh we got a storm...lightning hit a transformer, the television blew and the power was out for hours. I now keep my big mouth shut.

On 06/25/2010, Helen in Switzerland said ...

Oh I'm so glad that Jesse rescued you Susan and that you have your furniture, but I'm so shocked the delivery people would try to make you pay so much. The US is famous for the quality of service - what is going on?
Over in Europe the weather is way off too - England has gone Mediterranean and has had super hot dry weather for weeks (which NEVER happens) and here in Switzerland, when it should have been delightfully warm and sunny it has rained and rained and rained and rained. Something is certainly going on!
Anyway hope you are enjoying your lovely new furniture and that you have a more comfortable weekend!

Greek Isle Chicken

Greek-chicken-oh-l

I saw the recipe for this dish on MyRecipes.com yesterday. My taste buds immediately sat up and took notice. I decided I'd make it for dinner last night. I halved the recipes and made two servings, ate one and saved one for later.

It was an extremely easy dish to make, uses a small bowl and one pan, and the taste is amazing. Simple, good, and not heavy on calories. Of course, I was tempted to add some angel hair pasta, which would have greatly increased the calorie count. But I restrained myself and found I really didn't need the pasta after all.

If you're looking for a simple but great tasting dish to prepare quickly on these hot evenings, I recommend this one. And if it isn't hot where you are, well hey! I think it would even be good in cold weather.

Tuesday Tweets

Bookends2 Images  Ramey and I hit a couple of thrift stores on Saturday afternoon. We visited a Salvation Army store in Hoover that we hadn't ever been to, then across town to America's Thrift Store in Centerpoint. We didn't stop at our favorite, Big Saver, as we had just been there a few days before when I got the white dinnerware for my lamp.

We didn't come home with bags full, but I did find these lovely iron shabby chic bookends, for only 99 cents each, that fit right in with my living room.

ImagesThe Horrible H. Twins (Heat and Humidity) are still here. If you ask me, they've worn out their welcome and need to go home, wherever that may be.

Images  My computer problem has turned out to be my wireless router. So for right now, I have to use my IMac in my office. This does not please Sophie. She wants me downstairs in the living room with her. She doesn't like it upstairs for some reason.

ImagesWe made it through Father's Day without too many tears. It was hard though--the first FD without Vann, and I no longer have contact with my FIL. So with my dad and my first FIL, and even my first husband gone, Father's Day was just a day of remembering for me. But much of the remembering was good.

6a00d8341cbb0053ef01157151896c970b-320wi One especially good memory was Father's Day 2009, when Amy snuck in from Portland and surprised the heck out of Vann. That was one of the few times I ever saw my Boo speechless.

ImagesYesterday was Amy's birthday--the big 3-0! I hope you had a great one, Ame. I'm sure your dad was looking down on you and celebrating with his Scoots.

ImagesThe new dining room furniture is on it's way at last. I got an email message yesterday that it has shipped. I'm not sure if that means it was shipped to me or to someone who is going to deliver it to me or what--but at least it's moving now.

ImagesI'm scheduled for an epidural pain block on July 6, for the pain in my lower back, which Dr. N. says is caused by the degenerative disk disease. However, the muscle relaxers have helped a lot with that pain, and I don't even take them every day. So if the pain continues to improve, I might cancel the epidural. We'll see.

Images  Well, Sophie's on the move. She wants me downstairs now. Stay cool, everyone.

Hi Kiddo!

What spectacular bookends you found and at a stellar price, too! Well done! We need no bookends since we have edge to edge books on every available shelf!

H & H are here, too, and echo your wish to have them gone. This is the hottest June on record here.

I'm glad your memories of the men you've loved and who are gone were good memories. Their absence does leave a big empty place in your heart and life, doesn't it? Time makes it more gentle, but you'll miss them forever. That's as it's always been for everyone. You're not alone. Hugs.

Cheers that your dining room furniture will soon arrive at your home! Perhaps you can call the store to find out what timetable to expect since you received the email!

Happy Birthday, Amy!

Happy dancing that your muscle relaxers have helped you feel so much better! May that continue so you can cancel the pain block.

More hugs ...

Good morning! I have just had a lovely non-refreshing steambath (translation: I went to the grocery store in an unairconditioned car) and thought I'd revive by checking blogs! I want this blasted heat to VANISH like my $$ in a craft store! LOL! I'm glad you made it through this first Father's Day - another milestone - and I know the fathers in your life (most especially sweet Vann) WERE with you just as I know my play-dad was with me! I'm so excited that your dining room furniture is inching its way toward the Yellow House! And WOW to the bookends! We just do NOT have good places for thrifting in H-Town! We really don't! We USED to, years ago, but not for a long time! HAPPY 30th to Amy! She is a beautiful girl, isn't she? She has that kind of sweet, girl-next-door face! I KNOW I'd like her a lot! You & Sophie stay in and stay cooooool today! Kai LOVES you both!

I have to tell you that I've had those epidural things for the degenerative disease in my lower back. Wasn't worth it for me, so hope you have better luck. What works better than anything is the stretching on the floor I do twice per day, and have done faithfully for over 13 years. Before that I was a mess. No kidding. Haven't had sciatic pain in that length of time, and I've had it since my twenties. And had back surgery at age 30. Nothing has been better than the stretching exercises. I get around great. This from someone who owned a cane by 30.

I know dogs are "creatures of habit" and maybe all the changes have got her a bit confused. Just an observation from a breeder of terriers.

Remembering Them

Fathers

Happy Father's Day to my sweet husband (now in Heaven) and my dear FIL, Grover (in Camilla, I think). I love you both dearly and wish I could be with you this Father's Day. And also to my own daddy who passed away in 1977. Perhaps he and Vann are celebrating together today. I always did wish they could have met.

I was just remembering that this time last year, daughter Amy crept in from Portland and surprised Vann. Surprised isn't really a strong enough word. Actually she left him speechless for a few minutes. And our Vann was hardly ever speechless.

I know we're all remembering our PopPop with love today. I hope Amy, Phillip, Andy, and Cait, and all his family are comforted by memories of him, just as Sophie and I are.

NOTE: I am having computer issues. Working the clear things up today. But if I'm out of contact for a day or two, don't panic. I'll be back. Happy Father's Day to you and all your fathers and brothers and sons and husbands. I hope everyone is having a fine day.

Two peas in a pod is right! They both look so happy. I am so blessed to still have my Daddy with me at 89 years young and I never let a day go by without thanking God for that privilege. My heart mourns with those who have lost their Fathers but rejoice in the fact that this is not all there is to life. There is another life to come and it will be eternal. How very sweet of God to think of that! Cherish your memories.

Present!

Fri5

Yeah, yeah, I know. It's been, what?, almost two days since I've posted. I'm sorry if I worried anybody. I've been what my late husband used to call "flying under the radar," haven't I? Many thanks to those of you who checked one me. I'm not sick or anything. In fact, I'm feeling better then I have since the hot weather set in. I've just been busy.

Ramey and I went to the thrift store Wednesday evening. I got a whole bunch of white dinnerware to use for my lamp. Didn't find a white teapot. But my friend Marla told me about a place near hear that might have one. They did. And not expensive.

So I now have everything for my lamp except a shade and the electrical components. I'm thinking I'll have my lamp for less than $100. I've spent less than $30 so far. I have to research about the method for drilling holes in dinnerware to see if I think I can do it. If not, I have a friend who I think can do it.

Fri3

Fri4
I'm pretty sure I won't be using all the white pieces in my lamp. Especially the sugar bowl above. It look a little like a white fire hydrant, doesn't it?

Two of my blogless friends, Barbara and Marla, sent me pictures of their pretty teapot lamps. I thought I'd share them with you. First Marla's beautiful pounded (beaten?) copper one. Don't miss her sweet little birdie finial. (Click to enlarge.)

    Get-attachment-1.aspx

Now take a gander at Barbara's gorgeous and colorful lamp. See it's tiny little teapot finial. These lamps are wonderful, ladies. Thank you so much for sharing them with me.

Get-attachment.aspx

Some other treasures that my sister and I found at the thrift store. First these little napkin holder guys. Aren't they cute. Actually Ramey found them and insisted that I need them. So I put them in my basket. You can't disagree with you baby sister. Well, you can, but you pay.

Fri2

Sandy suggested, and Lainee agreed, earlier that my thrift store chicken would serve well as a holder for fan folded napkins. I'm not sure how to fan fold a napkin, but I did something, and here it is. Does look pretty, doesn't it?

Fri1

One last treasure from the thrift store to show you. I don't often buy clothes at the thrift store, simply because I don't have the patience to go through all the racks like my sister does. But this pretty thing was hanging right at the front of the rack and I grabbed it up. I know it's awfully fancy, but I think it will be gorgeous with a pair of jeans or a plain skirt.

Fri6

So I'm almost finished with my straightening up and putting away downstairs. I still haven't hung all my pictures, and I have to wait till my new dining room furniture arrives to put away my good dishes, but otherwise, it's about done. Now I do so dread working upstairs because of the dreaded sewing room. I'm promising myself that I'm going to get rid of lots of sewing room stuff. So watch out; there are sure to be some more drawings.

And speaking of drawings, I have now mailed everything that I owe anybody (unless there's someone I've forgotten). Anna, Thelma, Barbara, Cait, and Amy can all be on the lookout for mail that I sent out yesterday.

OK. Gotta go. Sophie's having a fit to go out in the heat. It's 7:16 in the evening and still hot as blazes.  So here I go to sweat city. Hope you all have a great evening.

Marla's lamp is wonderful and looks like it would have a great story to tell.

I'm glad you like my girly-girl lamp! I do, too, and having raised two sons,I had no reason to do cute and sweet years ago. This lamp called to me and it's the most girly thing in the house.

Susan - You've just given me an idea for my own teapot lamp (and I didn't even know I wanted one, until I saw all the pictures on your blog!) I am de-cluttering, downsizing, and finally put a few of my mother's collection of pitchers into the box destined for the church rummage sale later this summer. One item was a teapot! Very pretty, but it was her collection, her interests, and not mine. But - - - it would make a beautiful little lamp, so I rescued it from the box. Now to do something with it! You are quite an inspiration to me!

Sweet white dishware you found--what a great start on a lovely lamp! I like the sugar hydrant, LOL!

My most recent thrift store foray yielded two skirts, a jacket and a linen tank--all for $12 as everything was an extra 25% off that day. All look brand new and fit perfect. But I agree, you have to be willing to stand there and look for the good stuff. That takes a proper mood!

Glad you're feeling better. Hope some cool breezes blow your way soon.

Tea Set Lamp

Anth Lamp I saw this lamp on the Anthropolgie website and fell in love with it. However, when I saw it's price tag, I knew this was likely to become an unrequited love. $198 for one lamp definitely does not fit my budget.

I checked Ebay, thinking perhaps there would be one there that I could snap up at a bargain. Didn't happen. So I started searching the internet for tea set lamps that I might could afford. I found these.

Although I didn't find any other tea set lamps for sale, the one in the last photo did include instructions for making your own. So that's what I've decided to do. All I have to do now is find just the right dishes. I want white. I think. Or maybe red transferware. Or maybe a combination of the two.

Cute, cute, cute!!!! I love the idea of making your own lamp because then it will be all about your choices in pattern and color. What could be better than that?! Do you know someone who can drill the needed holes in the china for you? Happy hunting!!!!!

I have a teapot lamp that's very whimsical and it's still in the box. In my new mode of USE IT, I think I'll clean off the far end of my cutting table (a daunting prospect) and put that lamp there. Perhaps I'll put it on the chest of drawers that faces my shelved stash to illuminate that area for my occasional fabric searches. Thanks for getting the wheels turning!

Hugs!

Hi Susan!!! Hope you're doing well. Sorry I've been so out of touch lately. I've just been really busy and haven't had much time on the computer.
I love those lamps and have admit that I have never seen them before. Who would have thought that a lamp base made from dishes could look so beautiful. Good luck in your quest to find the perfect ones for your lamp.
Big hugs for you and sweet Sophie.
Alolha!

I've never seen anything like those! I need a little lamp for my desk, so maybe I'll hunt one down for myself. They're really cute!
BTW, still haven't found the wire or the check. But Dr. A says if I don't find it soon, she'll write me another one. It's a benefit of working for a nice doctor in a really, really small office--just the two of us. I go back again next Monday, so if I haven't found it over the weekend, I'll get a new one.
BTW, I don't have trouble giving away books, either. I think they should be circulated rather than gathering dust on a shelf.

Very nice lamps. I would probably go for color, too.
Thanks for the link to instructions!
