Bookends2 Images  Ramey and I hit a couple of thrift stores on Saturday afternoon. We visited a Salvation Army store in Hoover that we hadn't ever been to, then across town to America's Thrift Store in Centerpoint. We didn't stop at our favorite, Big Saver, as we had just been there a few days before when I got the white dinnerware for my lamp.

We didn't come home with bags full, but I did find these lovely iron shabby chic bookends, for only 99 cents each, that fit right in with my living room.

ImagesThe Horrible H. Twins (Heat and Humidity) are still here. If you ask me, they've worn out their welcome and need to go home, wherever that may be.

Images  My computer problem has turned out to be my wireless router. So for right now, I have to use my IMac in my office. This does not please Sophie. She wants me downstairs in the living room with her. She doesn't like it upstairs for some reason.

ImagesWe made it through Father's Day without too many tears. It was hard though--the first FD without Vann, and I no longer have contact with my FIL. So with my dad and my first FIL, and even my first husband gone, Father's Day was just a day of remembering for me. But much of the remembering was good.

6a00d8341cbb0053ef01157151896c970b-320wi One especially good memory was Father's Day 2009, when Amy snuck in from Portland and surprised the heck out of Vann. That was one of the few times I ever saw my Boo speechless.

ImagesYesterday was Amy's birthday--the big 3-0! I hope you had a great one, Ame. I'm sure your dad was looking down on you and celebrating with his Scoots.

ImagesThe new dining room furniture is on it's way at last. I got an email message yesterday that it has shipped. I'm not sure if that means it was shipped to me or to someone who is going to deliver it to me or what--but at least it's moving now.

ImagesI'm scheduled for an epidural pain block on July 6, for the pain in my lower back, which Dr. N. says is caused by the degenerative disk disease. However, the muscle relaxers have helped a lot with that pain, and I don't even take them every day. So if the pain continues to improve, I might cancel the epidural. We'll see.

Images  Well, Sophie's on the move. She wants me downstairs now. Stay cool, everyone.

Hi Kiddo!

What spectacular bookends you found and at a stellar price, too! Well done! We need no bookends since we have edge to edge books on every available shelf!

H & H are here, too, and echo your wish to have them gone. This is the hottest June on record here.

I'm glad your memories of the men you've loved and who are gone were good memories. Their absence does leave a big empty place in your heart and life, doesn't it? Time makes it more gentle, but you'll miss them forever. That's as it's always been for everyone. You're not alone. Hugs.

Cheers that your dining room furniture will soon arrive at your home! Perhaps you can call the store to find out what timetable to expect since you received the email!

Happy Birthday, Amy!

Happy dancing that your muscle relaxers have helped you feel so much better! May that continue so you can cancel the pain block.

More hugs ...

Good morning! I have just had a lovely non-refreshing steambath (translation: I went to the grocery store in an unairconditioned car) and thought I'd revive by checking blogs! I want this blasted heat to VANISH like my $$ in a craft store! LOL! I'm glad you made it through this first Father's Day - another milestone - and I know the fathers in your life (most especially sweet Vann) WERE with you just as I know my play-dad was with me! I'm so excited that your dining room furniture is inching its way toward the Yellow House! And WOW to the bookends! We just do NOT have good places for thrifting in H-Town! We really don't! We USED to, years ago, but not for a long time! HAPPY 30th to Amy! She is a beautiful girl, isn't she? She has that kind of sweet, girl-next-door face! I KNOW I'd like her a lot! You & Sophie stay in and stay cooooool today! Kai LOVES you both!

I have to tell you that I've had those epidural things for the degenerative disease in my lower back. Wasn't worth it for me, so hope you have better luck. What works better than anything is the stretching on the floor I do twice per day, and have done faithfully for over 13 years. Before that I was a mess. No kidding. Haven't had sciatic pain in that length of time, and I've had it since my twenties. And had back surgery at age 30. Nothing has been better than the stretching exercises. I get around great. This from someone who owned a cane by 30.

I've noticed that Sophie has been a bit difficult lately what with the walks, wanting you where she wants you, etc. and I wondered if perhaps all the improvements you've made have got her a bit nervous. I know dogs are "creatures of habit" and maybe all the changes have got her a bit confused. Just an observation from a breeder of terriers.

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.
