Above is a picture of a square that my niece India made for Vann's prayer quilt. Don't you just love that verse? What a beautiful and awesome image it conjures. It's not a familiar verse to me, but it's one I'll add to my prayer journal. I looked up "Jeshurun," and found that it's a poetic word for Israel or the people of Israel. Thanks, India. It now is a part of the prayer quilt.
I really thought my cold was better, but I coughed all night last night. Had to get up a couple of times to take cough med. I always cough more at night when I'd like to be sleeping. I'm pretty sure I know what my trouble is though. Driving down Zeigler Road this morning, I saw it, popping out in all it's troublesome glory--RAGWEED! I'm so allergic. I always get sick this time of year. So I'm going to call Dr. M tomorrow and see if he can add some Claritan or something to my arsenal of meds.
The doctors still have not told Vann that he can definitely come home, but I think (and hope) they're moving that way. His pain and nausea seem to be under control for the most part.
Paul brought us a baked chicken today. We have oodles of corn left over from yesterday, so guess what's for supper.
Amy is sick now too. Really I think she's just exhausted. She spent every night last week at the hospital with her mom and part of the days. Today is the first day she hasn't gone to the hospital since she got here from Oregon. Phillip is still at the hospital tonight. He has spent most of the day cleaning out his mom's apartment. She will be moving into a nursing home when she leaves the hospital. Mother Teresa's quote ("I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much.") must seem particularly appropriate for Phillip and Amy these days, with both of their parents ill and so much responsibility coming down on them. I'm very proud of them, though. They're handling everything with grace and competence.
Jed came back by the hospital today. He, Vann, Phillip, and I watched part of one of the movies he brought: "A History of Violence." Vann got tired so we stopped it and will finish it later. Thank you so much, Jed, for the gifts, the company, the prayers, and the love. We're crazy about you.
Something I just found out from my friend Judy Cloe: If you say the words "rabbit rabbit rabbit" before you say anything else on the first day of each month, you'll have good luck all month. (A bit of internet research shows that some people say"rabbit rabbit, white rabbit," and some just say "rabbit rabbit."
Tomorrow being September 1, let's hear a chorus of "rabbit rabbit rabbit," or something along those, lines in the morning.

I feel so for Amy and Philip. When my mom died suddenly, and Dad was sick with heart disease and cancer, it just seemed like it was all too much. We sisters rallied together though, and we came through it all. Keep in mind the wise words of my friend Pastor Ken--"Give care to the caregiver". Take care of yourself, my friend.

It was great to see you & Vann & Phillip this weekend! I'm just sorry I missed seeing Andy and Amy. By the way - tell Vann that I'll be up late this week, so if he has problems with the DVD player, to give me a call even if it's 1 or 2 in the morning. I'll probably be up anyway. Love - Jed

I can imagine the exhaustion you are all feeling. Things like this are so physically and emotionally draining. My prayers continue.
Rabbit. Rabbit.

Glad to hear that Vann is feeling more comfortable and may be able to come home.
I'm originally from the north of England and we always say "White Rabbit" on the 1st day of the month. Ruth

Does it count if you say rabbit, rabbit after talking to cats, not people? Hope so. We have an alarm cat who walks all over us when he decides it's time for us to be up!
I'm sniffling this morning and it's a glorious 65*F so perhaps autumn is around the corner?
So glad Vann is feeling better and the annoying bothers are under control.
You caregivers take care of yourselves. Make the best decisions you can, forgive yourselves for what just cannot be done, and remember the caregiver rule: No Guilt! You're doing your best and that's the most anyone can do.
One of my favorite verses is the one that follows India's chosen and stitched verse:
v. 33 : The Eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms...
Blessings, hugs,and continued prayers.

I've never heard the rabbit saying for good luck! How funny! Hope your day goes well and your cough improves. Vann is in our prayers.
