Gang of Six

383982_3546939556461_2008109012_n
Left to right: Joanie, Sherry, Wiggles (Anne), Brenda, Jules (Julie), and me.

This is the group who planned and supervised the carrying out of this past summer's reunion to celebrate our high school graduating class's 50-year anniversary. I know it looks like several of these ladies must have entered first grade as zygotes. But no, we're all the same age, and old enough to have left high school fifty years ago.

Now that our big shindig is over, we are determined to continue to reunite every chance we get. Yesterday we met at The Fish Market restaurant for lunch. Lunch turned into a three-hour get-together.

The food was, as usual, terrific. I had grilled shrimp on lemon-butter pasta, my favorite Fish Market dish, along with a big Greek salad.

We talked about everything from physical ailments to what drugs we were all on, to anyone we knew who had written a book, had an ailment, or died. We discussed our individual loves of or aversions to travel. Then we discussed our upcoming beach trip.

Joanie, first on left in photo, has a beach condo; and sweet person that she is and always has been, she has invited us to share it with her for a few says next month. Three other of our classmates are coming from out of town to join us.

I still haven't determine for absolute sure that I can go, although I really want to. But that 24-hour trip to Rome, Georgia, and the conditions I found when I returned have left me averse to leaving Jesse in charge, although he is a good guy and does his best. His sleeping schedule is all different from mine, Skipper's, and Sophie's. Also Taco and Bella have made a few leaps up onto the gate that we installed to keep the dogs away from them. And Sophie still acts like she wants nothing more badly than a cat sandwich. So I suppose the only way I can go is to board the dogs, which I am not really comfortable doing. I absolutely trust the people at the place where I would leave them. After all, Dr. Rachel, one of the vets there, once saved Sophie's life. But it just all seems like too much somehow. But I haven't ruled it out. I really want to go.

The smell-of-bleach problem seems to be better, although certainly not gone. I took all the advice you gave me. The Mentholatum (didn't have any VIcks) seemed to work the best. The perfume bothered me almost as badly as the bleach smell. For the past few years, I haven't even been able to sit near someone in church who wears perfume. Good thing, not many people I know do.

I think that I probably seared my sinuses breathing that bleach without a window open. I have vowed to never used chlorine bleach again. This is just too bothersome.

Full_moon_smallDon't forget the Harvest Moon tonight. I'm afraid it's going to be too cloudy here to enjoy it. But if we luck up and get a clear sky, I think I'll take Sophie and Skipper for a moonlight stroll.

What a great bunch of girlfriends and I'm not a bit surprised that lunch was an enjoyable (and delicious) 3 hour event! Methinks you should do what ever is necessary to keep the peace at home while you are definitely, certainly, and without a doubt with these friends and others at the beach next month. Yep!

Wishing your well on your diet and your resolve to live without chlorine bleach. Have you ever seen The Vinegar Book? All Southerners have learned to live with the odor of vinegar and it is helpful in cleaning a bazillion ways. So your house always smells like pepper relish ...!

Hugs!

You really want to go, you say? Then my vote is to board S&S and pack your bags for a trip to the beach! They'll have each other for company and you won't have the worry of the dogs being looked after at home. Now, go on! Scoot!

Lingering Scents

Skunk-pictureI hear you can get rid of this kind of order with buttermilk or tomato juice. I suppose its the acid that does it. But what about when you get the scent of chlorine bleach up your nose from too much exuberant bathroom cleaning?

I cleaned the bathroom on Wednesday morning. I used lots of a cleaner that contains chlorine bleach. Gotta get those germs and mold, you know. Well from Monday morning until now, the scent of bleach has remained in my nose. It's driving me bonkers.

I've had this happen many times in the past, but it usually goes away in a few hours, or at the most by the next day. I couldn't sleep last night for smelling bleach.

As you might know, many people with fibromyalgia are super sensitive to odors, especially chemical odors. So that probably makes my case that much worse.

I have washed out my nose with water. I have burned scented candles. I have blown and blown and blown. I googled the problem and found that sniffing vinegar or lemon juice would work. I don't have any lemon juice, so I got my bottle of apple cider vinegar and went to sniffing. About that time, my daughter Andy came in.

"Are you drinking?" she asked. I explained. Anyway, it didn't work, and I did a lot of vinegar sniffing

Today I'm going to get some distilled water and use my neti pot. If that doesn't work, I give.

Have any of you ever had this problem. If so, did you find a solution? If so, what?

I'm going to have lunch with five of my high school friends today. We're going to The Fish Market, a favorite of all of us.

Starting on Monday, Jesse and I are going to start a healthy-eating program, and it was his idea. We both want to lose weight, and he needs to get in better shape for his future job as a fireman/paramedic. So this weekend, we're going to eat up all the ice cream, bologna, mac and cheese, sodas, etc., that are here. Then whatever's left on Monday goes in the garbage, and it's nothing but grilled chicken breasts, lean beef, brown rice, and fruits and veggies. Well, there are a few more things we can have, but none of them are as exciting ice cream and bologna. Wish us luck.

Gotta go.

You might try putting a little Vicks salve inside each nostril. That always works for me. Of course, then you may be smelling Vicks! Your new eating plan is an inspiration! Sandy Gail

Try Vick's Vaporub under your nose. That's what crime scene people use when encountering dead bodies. However, you should decide whether you want to smell THAT instead of the bleach! :D

Susan, With my Scleroderma I have the same problem...also, I take Lyrica for my Peripheral Neuropathy and at some point every single day, the odor of cigarette smoke is so strong for several hours that it drives me crazy! Especially since I've lived in this home for 34 years and no one has EVER smoked in here!!! It is a side affect of both the disease and the medications I take. The only relief I can find, and usually I do this before going to bed because that is when it really starts to drive me crazy...is to dab a little bit of perfume that I like under my nose. I use a bit of Chanel No. 5 because it is subtle, but I can still smell THAT, rather than the mysterious cigarettes. This has been going on for years now and the perfume trick has been my only relief. Of course it doesn't have to be perfume. I have also used scented lotions from Bath and Body works, but they are a little stronger, so I tend to stick with the perfume as it doesn't overpower me. So, just a thought. Hope you find a solution because I know how frustrating it can be. Big Hugs... *** My hubby recommends a little Vicks Vapor Rub or Mentholatum too...something you could try. Good luck!

On 09/29/2012, Barbara Anne said ...

What a bummer! DS2 also is sensitive to the odors of bleach and to vinegar so since he moved out, we've made barbecue sauce (lots of vinegar).

I have nothing to suggest other than the good ideas already posted. Methinks that a light perfume dabbed under your nose is the most pleasant idea. Did being in a seafood restaurant help any?

What a great weekend to invite family over for a pot luck of junk food!

Hugs!

Premier Week

Castle-season-premiere_320x240

I have watched so little tv this past summer, that I almost completely missed the season premiers of some of my favorite shows. I was cruising the internet Monday night when an item about "Castle" caught my eye. I looked at the clock and saw that I had already missed 10 minutes. OMG! Castle and Beckett could be dead by now and I wouldn't even know it! I rushed to the tv to find that I had left my DVR set to record last season and I hadn't missed anything at all.

In this new episode, the team goes rogue, Alexis gets a hangover, and Castle and Beckett finally (as one reviewer puts it) do the horizontal mambo. I don't know quite yet how I feel about this new relationship between them. I just hope it doesn't hurt the chemistry between the characters. It has been my observation that this kind of change in a show's main characters can kill it. We'll just have to see. They have decided to keep their relationship undercover, so to speak, so that should help.

Last night was the season premiers of two of the shows I like to watch. Again, I almost forgot. When you've been off tv for a couple of months, you find you can live without it. But again my DVR saved the beginning of the show for me and I missed nothing.

-criminal-minds--sea"Criminal Minds" came first. This is probably my very favorite current series, and one of my favorite series of all time. It was a good episode. The unsub was a man who had endured a horrible childhood that made him kill in search of silence.

I don't care much for the new girl. She seems a little arrogant and pushy. I hope they bring Emily back from London.

After "Criminal Minds," came "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." Ted Danson is so good as D.B. Russell in this series. He came on last season as the main character after Marge Helgenberger (who was also good) left.

CSILast night, D.B.'s granddaughter has been kidnapped by some very nasty men, and D.B. and the team have eight hours to find her and get her back. Very emotional epsiode, and some really good acting.

Tomorrow night, I'll see the season premier of CSI NY, another favorite. Gary Sinise is just perfect as Mac Taylor, but there's really not a bad actor in the whole cast I love them all.

Oh my gosh, Criminal Minds scares the bejebus out of me. Like I have nightmares about unsubs! So I can't watch it. I really like the scientific part of it but those crimes are just too much for me. My favorite show came back on this week too. NCIS. Those characters feel like extended family now and it was so nice to catch up this week.

My favorite show is Criminal Minds and I almost missed the season primier last night. There are only a few shows that I follow these days and mostly because there seems to be a lack of quality writing going on these days and few plot lines that appeal to people over 40. It is easy to miss the 1st show of the season because every show has different start dates/months and other series air in the Spring. I will have to research my shows and have Google remind me with an email. A lot of people I know are like Missy and cannot bring themselves to watch the more realist crime shows, but I must be a deviant because it does not bother me a bit. On the other hand I can't stand "reality" shows so everybody has differnet taste.
Your Taco & Bella pictures are priceless. Are the dogs catching on to their presence yet? I can't wait for the 2 species to meet formally.

On 09/28/2012, Barbara Anne said ...

We like NCIS most, but also the others you mentioned (I have to be out of the room for the crime on Criminal Minds!) but have never even heard of Castle.

Last night we watched the new show Elementary and found it a bit frenetic but enjoyable. We'll watch it again.

You do much better than I do with the creepy, scary stuff on screen and in print. To each her own!!

Hugs!

Taco: "Oh boy."

Cat4

Taco: "Bella, I don't know about that. Uh oh. I think she's turning around. You better scat."

Cat5
Bella: "Hm, hm, hm. Just looking for my squeaky mouse. I think Jesse put it up here somewhere."

Taco: "Damn! That was close."

Bella: "Taco, language please."

20 More Blocks to Go

WQuilt

Here are all my Sunflower string blocks so far, 28 of them. Twenty more to go. I love the effect, the way they look woven. And they aren't even sewn together yet. I think this is going to be a great quilt.

I got up this morning with a solid resolve to get some serious housecleaning done. I stripped my bed, changed the sheets, put the coverlet in the washer (it smelled mightily of dog), put the leftover dishes from last night in the dishwasher and turned it on, swept the kitchen, and vacuumed the downstairs carpet. Phew! I'm now soaked with perspiration and exhausted. Guess that's all the serious housecleaning for today. I have GOT to find me a new cleaning lady for the heavy stuff.

To those of you who received suspicious emails from me yesterday or today, I apologize. The hackers and spammers have found me again. I've changed my password, and this time it's a doozie. If those crooks can find this one, I'll salute them. But they probably will.

Taco got very jealous when he found out I had posted that pretty picture of his sister yesterday and not one of him too. So here he is, having been awakened from his nap on my chest yesterday.

WTaco

So now I'm off to the shower, a quick cup of tea, then I'm going to sew some more sunflower blocks.

The Days Grow Short

BellaQ
Autumn nights, time to snuggle up with a quilt, a good book,
and something furr
y.

This is the first time I can ever remember that autumn weather actually arrived on the first day of autumn. September in Alabama is usually simply an extension of our suffocatingly hot and humid summers. But for the past couple of days, we have had warm dry days and chilly nights. I love it. The leaves are already turning, another phenomenon that usually doesn't happen until October.

Taco is climbing all over me, making typing difficult. I'm about to move over to Bernice (my Bernina) and try to do some sewing. I've never sewn with a cat on my shoulder. I'll have to see how that turns out.

Taco and his sister Bella have already knocked my quilt blocks into the floor several times, usually tumbling down right along with them. But they are much fun to watch.

Now Taco has gone to sleep on my chest, with his purr motor rumbling. I'm going to see if I can move him to his bed now.

Hope everyone is enjoying autumn as much as we are.

BluePlate
I got this plate and rack at one of the gift shops Ramey and I visited in Cave Spring, Ga., on our way back from Rome. It has become one of my favorite treasures.

Bella looks so sweet cuddled in your lovely blue and white quilt! Mind the kneading motion of her front feet as that's what tore my quilt when our cats were kittens.

Isn't happy purring the most relaxing sound? I look forward to hearing how well you were able to sew with Taco on your shoulder. Perhaps he'll be your new, loving, warm, and furry heating pad?

Love your new blue and white treasure plate! Don't you like a beautiful, thrifty find like that?!

I should be sewing but lack the umph today. Bother...

Ah Susan, I love this post. I can hear (well, read) the kitty love growing in your heart very quickly. I can't have cats just now, but one day, when we close and lock our doggie doors for good, we will be getting some kittly love also. By the way, because I have Scleroderma, I have read lots and lots about stress relief and pain control because, as you know from your Fibro monster, stress can trigger a flare in the blink of an eye. Well, in my travels through cyber space, the relationships of pets in general to stress relief keeps popping up. BUT, everything says that cats provide more stress relief for chronicly ill patients for a number of reasons that I won't go into, but like I said, I can hear/see the kitty love growing fast, and I'm betting you will notice a difference in your flare ups. Especially when you are in one, stroking a cat/kitten, feeling and hearing them purr, is very theraputic. All four of your furry babies are adorable by the way. I truly can't imagine life without furry babies to love . Hugs...

All Roads Might Lead to Rome, But Some Take You Through Booger Hollow First

Berry2It's only a two-and-a-half-hour drive, we were told, from Birmingham to Rome, Georgia. We made it in just under six. If there's a wrong turn in northeast Alabama that we didn't take, I don't know where it is.

One time, we drove for over an hour only to find that we had come full circle back the the point where we had exited the interstate. We would take heart at a sign that announced we were 35 miles from our next turn, only to see another sign 45 minutes later that told us we were now 53 miles from that spot. We went through Collinsville, Alabama, twice--each time from a different direction. We saw a few landmarks so many times, we can now call them friends.

We drove for miles and miles on a deserted  highway/road/path/pig trail that became more and more narrow the farther we went. Finally, at the point where we were sure we had ventured into someone's driveway, we saw a car coming toward us.

"I hope there's nobody in there playing a banjo," my sister said fearfully.

But I think it was the point at which Ramey saw the sign that declared "You are now entering Booger Hollow" that put the cap on her stack. We had had such a "Twilight Zone" afternoon that this was just too much for my sister's vivid imagination. She definitely did not want to encounter any boogers.

After Sirius XM's serenading us throughout the trip with such songs as "Take the Long Way Home," "Hotel California," "Homeward Bound" (I wish I was),"Still Crazy," etc., Ramey just knew for sure we had been caught in some Stephen Kingesque time warp or worm hole or some such.

But we got out of Booger Hollow physically unscathed, and at last found the right road to Rome. We found Berry College, where Ramey's event, as part of the Southern Women's Writers' Conference, was to take place the next morning, had a great dinner, and retired to our hotel room where we slept like logs, logs who had had one adventure too many.

That's Ramey in the photo above after a good night's sleep, standing in front of one of the beautiful buildings on the Berry campus. After Ramey's reading yesterday morning, we took time to drive over the campus and see the beautiful buildings, grounds, and wildlife. (We got lost then, too, but were able to find our way back to The Gate of Opportunity without any sojourns through Booger Hollow.)

On the way back home yesterday, we stopped for a while in Cave Spring, Georgia, a wonderful little village whose main attractions are a cave and a spring, but we stopped for all the great gift shops.

We got back home mid-afternoon. At home, I was greeted by two very happy and excited dogs--and a bathmat that had been used as a doggy potty, apparently for the whole time I was gone. Jesse swears the dogs had access to the outdoors while I was gone, but it sure didn't look like. Sophie, in her excitement to see me, followed me into the bathroom and ran through the, shall we say, gifts. So of course, her action made a bad cleanup job into a disaster. It took a while, a lot of bleach and cleanser, a doggy foot washing, and a few choice cuss words, but finally all was clean again, and the mutts and I cuddled up on the bed for a nap.

Jesse came downstairs to greet me before we drifted off. By that time I was too tired to fuss at him for letting the dogs befoul my boudoir. I accepted his explanation that he was clueless as to how such a thing could have happened.

Below are a few more photos of our visit to Berry College Campus. I wish now we had taken a photo of the Booger Hollow sign. But I don't think Ramey would have allowed me to stop the car in that fearful spot long enough snap a shot.

Exaggeration, my eye! I think you have down-played it considerably! For one thing, you left out "Slip Sliding Away" by Paul Simon, which I think we heard more than once during our harrowing drive. And the fact that when we, mercifully, reached our destinaion, Paul McCartney immediately began singing "When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And in my hour of darkness ..." etc etc.
By the way, since we have now returned safely to our home, I learned that Berry College has a 26,000 acre campus. Who knew!
And, if I'm not mistaken, it was Booger Holler, rather than the more elite sounding Booger Hollow!

This is Bella.

Jesse has finally decided on names for his kitties. The little black-and-white boy kitty is now Taco. The grey girl kitty is Bella. Isn't that cute. Taco Bella! I love it.

Going with my sister Ramey this afternoon to hear her speak at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. It's something about her book, Sweet Music on Moonlight Ridge. If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it. Check it out on Amazon or your favorite book site and see if it interests you. Bet it will.

Catch you later.

How ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Those kitties are so cute he could have named them ANYTHING & I'd have loved the names! But his choices are right on target! And - as one who has read (as has my housemate) Ramey's wonderful book, let me say that those who HAVEN'T are missing out! It will make you laugh out loud! The entire book is just plain old WONDERFUL!

Taco Bella is adorable. But Bo and Bella would have been very cute too - LOL (I'm still stuck on that name Bo!) Those little ones could make me be a cat person for sure. I love that Sophie is so interested in them - can't wait to hear how this develops! o:)

Pillowcases, Kitty Kats, and Toilet Seats

W3

Each year at holiday time, my quilting bee picks a service organization and makes some handmade gifts for them. You might recall the children's crayon bags we made last year for Lovelady Center kids. This year we have a choice of making more of the bags or making pillowcases (with pillow) for this Lovelady kids. Above is my fabric I bought yesterday at WalMart for two pillowcases. If I get them done in time, I'll make a couple of crayon bags too.

I have completed several more blocks for My Sunflower Quilt. I have almost half the blocks done now. Thanks for your suggestions for naming the quilt. They're all going on the list of possibilities.

The kitty situation is going pretty smoothly so far. We introduced the cats and dogs a couple of days ago. Skipper turned tail and ignored the whole business, Sophie cried and barked and wanted a kitty, the little girl cat ran and hid, the little black boy bowed up and hissed, and Jesse got scratched. Ever since the meeting, Sophie has occasionally sat at the gate and begged to get in with the kittens. We're going to do another experiment soon and see if we can ascertain Sophie's intentions. She appears to just want to play with them or inspect them, but we have to be sure before we give her full reign.

No names for the two yet, but I have given Jesse all your suggestions, plus some of my own. So far, he seems unimpressed by any of our names. It's getting to be a problem, just calling both of them kitty.

W1
I allowed the kitties to spend some time exploring in my sewing room. Here's Boy Kitty checking out my printer.

W1b
"Well, that's not so much fun," he decided.

W2
"What else you got?"

No pictures of Girl Kitty. I'll try to catch her next time they visit my sewing room.

I have to go and do a mundane chore this morning. Yesterday I bought a replacement toilet seat for Jesse's bathroom, as the current one has gone decidedly wiggly. When Jesse went to install the seat, he found that it was cracked, so now I have to take it back for a swap.

I have been feeling some better the last couple of days. But I tell you, that last flare was one of the worst. I believe each successive flare gets more severe, and the time between them gets shorter. Have any of you who have chronic disorders like fibromyalgia found this to be true? My big fear is that one of them will come along one day and won't ever subside or get better.

Anyway, bye for now. Off to run errands.

Cheers for the progress on your Sunflower blocks!! I actually fussy cut 6 picture squares of Christmas fabric that are the centers for red/green Diamond-in-a-Square blocks. They'll be made into two three-block wall hangings for AMIL. She's been wishing for Chistmas wall hangings to replace the two that flank her breakfront. I've also been pulling red and green fabrics and it's nice to be back at it.

One of our little black cats was call Boog (short for Booger) and a friend called her black cat Smudge. Soot and Inky were considered and voted down here. When DS2 was three years old, he named our found cat Kitty Cat and she forever went by K.C. Your Little Boy kitten is certainly cute!

Glad you're feeling better. I hope and pray that the fibro flares never become permanent. I've been fortunate with having a fairly mild form of lupus and so far (knock wood) haven't had any really debilitating flares. My flares consist of utter fatigue and aching joints that are worse during a flare than they are between flares.

Hugs!

Almost forgot...get a scratching post, maybe two, and rub some catnip on them (the posts). Show them (the kitties) how to put their paws on it. That should keep them from clawing your furniture to death....

The kitty looks like he (she) has "socks" on. Maybe that could be his (her) name.

Susan, I relate to you about your "flares" of this terrible disease.
All I can say about the flare ups is they stay until your body gets a grip on the inflammation. Getting over tired, or doing to much is just asking for a flare up. The older we get the longer it takes to bounce back.

I am on Prednisone 10mg which helps a lot. The arthritis Dr. started me on methotrexate to help with the pain and will ween me off Prednisone. Along with Fibromyalgia I have PMR, (Polymyalgia Rhematica). This come on quick and has lasted over 2 years now. You can read about it on Web MD.

I do what I can around here, but I have hired a housekeeper who comes in every 2 weeks. That is the nicest thing I have done for myself!! This leaves me more time to sew and create and not worry about how I am going to vacuum and clean the bathrooms. Now if I could afford a cook, and a laundress I would have it made!! hahahah
We just keep on keeping on. I feel you discomfort!!!!

A better choice for a toilet seat hinge would be solid metal. Higher quality toilet seats have metal hinges and at least four points of contact to prevent the seat from flexing from side to side too often.

My Sunflower Quilt

Sunflower1I dearly love sunflowers. Their bright happy faces staring up at the sun just make me smile. I've been planning for years to someday make a sunflower quilt. Well, that days has come.

I've had this pattern, which appears in a Leisure Arts book called Country Bouquet Quilts, for years. And I'm finally putting it to use. It consists, as you can see, mainly of string-pieced blocks, so it's very easy and fast. I have made, I think, about 12 blocks so far. And I need 48. So I've got 1/4 of my blocks done. I'll machine applique the sunflowers on and get one of my longarm quilting friends to quilt it for me.

The quilt in the book is called "Kansas on My Mind." I don't know what I'll title my quilt yet. So far, I just call it "My Sunflower Quilt."

I can't wait to get it done. Next year, it will hang in my foyer throughout August and September, until time to hang the "Endless Autumn" quilt.

My sunflower blocks: 12 of them so far

What a glorious quilt you're making and the pattern is charming! The name "You are my Sunshine" comes to mind as I look at it. Am looking forward to seeing your version!!

I, too, rotate seasonal small quilts in my home and love those little changes in the decor. My August quilt has sunflower fabrics along with the deep blues and deep greens of late summer. It was made from Mary Ellen Hopkins' Hidden Wells pattern.

Hope you enjoy every stitch in making this happy quilt!

Hi Susan, I too love sunflowers. Your quilt is going to be awesome. I want to learn how to applique on a quilt square. I am taking lessons but haven't had time to do much this summer. The winter is the time that I get more quilting done.

I finished my pages already for Kathy. One more to do for Beverly and our circle will be finished. I have loved the journey. I am looking forward to getting mine back.

Hugs, Jeanne

Another Dollhouse Block

Pam's LR

This is Pam's adorable Living Room block. I love her red couch and cushions. She hasn't done her embroidery yet, but she has a terrific head start. Can't wait to see it finished. Congrats, Pam, on the progress.

That's about it for today. Having a bad day, as was yesterday and the day before. So much weakness and pain. It's one of those "I think it's time to yell uncle and throw in the towel" kind of days. But it will get better. I know it will. But for today at least, I have to at least whisper uncle and let my body have it's way.

Happy Sunday to all.

Cheers for Pam's Dollhouse Living Room block! I love the whimsy in the turned in toes and the little doll on the cheery couch!

Hope you feel better soon, Sus. Feeling rotten is a bummer. I've spend much of the last week flat out packing for DS2's move. That happened yesterday and methinks I counted 39,893 stairs I climbed before losing count in getting his belongings from the car and truck into the lovely apartment in the Blue Ridge mountains. I feel like I was hit by a mac truck. We're empty nesters ... sniff, sniff, wail ...

Kitty Calm

Cats1I have to say that so far, I've been dead wrong about what the effects of bringing two kittens into Sophie and Skipper's house would be.

Jesse came in yesterday with the babies in a cat carrier. He went straight upstairs to get them ensconced, and apparently the two mutts didn't suspect a thing--and still haven't. They don't even seem too perturbed that the gate is keeping them from gaining the second floor and the sewing room, where I am now.

I don't know if they aren't aware that there are cats in the house (which is hard to believe) or if they just don't care (which is even harder to believe). It's a mystery for sure. But one for which I'm grateful.

We will wait another day or two before introducing them all. I hesitate to throw a monkey wrench into a good thing.

They don't have names yet. Jesse doesn't seem in any hurry to give them some. I suggested Bo for the little black boy with white feet, but Jesse rejected that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Cats2
Jesse babies. According to him, the gray-and-white is a little girl, and the black with white feet is a little boy.

Cats3
"There's a strange scent in my house this morning," says Skipper. "If I didn't know better, I'd swear it's cat."

Awwww Kittens! I love them, but as we have two doggie doors, I don't dare get a cat until I can keep them locked in the house. Streets are a dangerous place for kitty's around here. Anyway, not sure about the little gut that's black with white feet, but the little gray guy looks like and Oliver to me, LOL. Of course, you could name them Stan and Laurel. Being of the generation vintage that I am, I tend to lean toward things like that, *wink*. What ever you name them, they are just too cute. I'll bet your dogs will enjoy playing with them after the initial uncomfortable introductions. Soon they will be the best of friends!!! Hugs...

Oh, Susan, the kitties are so cute! I'm definitely, a dog person, but I know cute when I see it! I'm sure Sophie and Skipper will come around. Well, I think. I don't think my Peke Lilly would ever be happy with another anything in the house - she's boss here - LOL! And, I think Bo is a perfect name for the little boy kitty.

Nancy & I were generationally thinking alike. I came to your blog & thought, "Just LOOK at those cute lil' rascals! Hmmmm. The Little Rascals! The girly could be FURina, and the black male one could be Alfalfa. (Sorry, Jesse. I am WELL aware that you don't need my bizarre name ideas! LOL!) Whatever the names they get, I will STILL call them precious and adorable! Glad Ms. Sophie & Lil' Skipper are not (thus far) bothered by the fuzzy newcomers.

On 09/16/2012, Barbara Anne said ...

Hope the Peaceable Kingdom is still an apt name for the environment in your home! The kittens are too cute and I think the little girl might be Stormy and the little boy Knight!! Other famous couples ...
George and Gracie (married),
brother/sisters ... the Captain and Tennille, Donnie and Marie, or substances ... Chocolate and Mocha (or Latte)
Then again, think about what names you want to be calling out in your neighborhood!

Love the dollhouse block!

Am playing catch-up as yesterday was moving day. DS2 is across the state in a 3rd floor walk-up apartment with a friend as a flatmate. DS2 is my preemie with a mild form of CP that makes balance a challenge. I am so proud of his bravery in making this move. Do pray!

Delightful Dollhouse Blocks

I must confess that I have fallen behind with my dollhouse blocks. I haven't done a thing on the sewing room yet. I have just been too busy with other things, mostly guild blocks of the month. I hope to get back to mine this month. Tomorrow will be the day to send out the new patterns. I forget which room is this time, maybe laundry room. I'm not sure. But watch for your pattern tomorrow if you're in the challenge.

Meantime, our Dollhouse Challenge member Laura has been hard at work and has produced two charming blocks. Here they are. As you can see, Laura has done some delightful ad libbing on her blocks.

Tn-1
"I used the cabinet from the kitchen for my Grannies Fiesta ware," writes Laura.  "And being the KitchenAid Lady, of course I had to add her mixer."

Tn
Laura's inspiration for this block was her grandmother's sewing room. "What I remember most was her sewing and watch 'Jeopardy'," she says.

I just returned from a visit with Dr. B for my 6 month checkup on the old ticker. Had an ekg and got asked a bunch of questions. Dr. B. says the ticker is fine and dandy. He deemed me in tip-top shape, heartwise.

I told him about the crushing fatigue, but he didn't have any answers. He said he didn't think that had anything to do with my heart, because it was in such good shape. Well I didn't think so either. I just tell everybody in hopes that somebody will have an answer. But not Dr. B., obviously. He said it could be my thyroid. I told him that Dr. M. had just checked that about a month ago. So Dr. B. shrugged. Guess it must just be that dreaded Fibromonster. Wish he'd go on vacation.

I think a Sister Supper is scheduled for tonight at Joanne's house. If I'm going to make it, I have to go and rest up a bit. And I sure wouldn't want to miss a Sister Supper.

What cute blocks Laura made and I'm sure her dear Granny is delighted to see the charming rooms Laura re-created in fabric in her Grannie's honor!

Cheers that your ticker is in good condition!!! Hope nothing is wrong with you. That Fibromonster is enough for anyone to have to endure.

Please keep us in your prayers as tomorrow we take DS2 to his new apartment 4 hours away from home. Sigh! This week has nearly run me into the ground and I think I've been doing the last minute packing for more than 12 hours. I am past exhaustion. Had to pop in to see you, tho!

Hugs!

Fun Day

Paint1I'm still recovering from yesterday. First, quilters guild in the morning; then, a workshop in the afternoon. I pushed myself too far, and I'm paying today. But if I had to do it over, I don't think I'd change a thing. It was a great day of fun with friends.

That's our workshop teacher at right, Regina Carter of Georgia, holding the piece that I painted in the workshop. Regina supplied to quilted pieces and the Shiva Paintstiks (for a fee) and we did the paint work. Below are a few of Regina's creations.

Paint2

Paint3

Paint4

The class, and even the process, were oodles of fun. But it also confirmed what I already knew. Painting is not my most favorite thing to do. I get the stuff all over everything, even with the paintstiks. I'm just not a painter. But one can't be good at everyting, huh? Tee hee. I'm still glad I took the class. And although it's not nearly as neat as those done by Regina herself,
I really like the block I painted.

But I truly got ahead of myself. Before the workshop, there was a terrific guild meeting and lots of show and tell. It was our first meeting after our August break, and it looks like our quilters had been very busy. Below are some of the pieces we were treated to.

ST1

ST2
Our 2012-13 Opportunity Quilt, titled "Serenity" after it's designer, our own Serene J.

ST3

ST4
"Damie's Last Quilt." We lost a dear member of our group last week. This is the quilt that Damie's bee was making with her looking on. Damie passed before the last borders were added, but she did get to see most of it. Rest in piece, our dear friend. (Yes, I meant to spell piece that way. Damie was a master quilt piecer and appliquer.)

ST5
A love quilt from guild members for our friend Ella, who lost her son this year. We also created enough blocks for a smaller quilt for Ella's granddaughter.

ST6

ST7

ST9

ST10

ST11

ST12
This is actually a very small quilt, maybe 8 inches square. The little pieces in the logs are truly tiny.

ST13

That's all the beauties for now. I'm going to try to take it easy today and rest. That's so hard to do, though. Everything that I need to be doing and want to be doing keeps swirly through my mind. So maybe I'll rest while getting a little bit of sewing done.

Happy Tuesday, everyone.
