My Sunflower Quilt

Sunflower1I dearly love sunflowers. Their bright happy faces staring up at the sun just make me smile. I've been planning for years to someday make a sunflower quilt. Well, that days has come.

I've had this pattern, which appears in a Leisure Arts book called Country Bouquet Quilts, for years. And I'm finally putting it to use. It consists, as you can see, mainly of string-pieced blocks, so it's very easy and fast. I have made, I think, about 12 blocks so far. And I need 48. So I've got 1/4 of my blocks done. I'll machine applique the sunflowers on and get one of my longarm quilting friends to quilt it for me.

The quilt in the book is called "Kansas on My Mind." I don't know what I'll title my quilt yet. So far, I just call it "My Sunflower Quilt."

I can't wait to get it done. Next year, it will hang in my foyer throughout August and September, until time to hang the "Endless Autumn" quilt.

I esp love a quilt that has a flower applique on it. This one includes my favorite...sunflowers! it will be beautiful, Susan. I've never done a string quilt..wondering if I would opt for that or just smaller same size strips to make this quilt.

What a glorious quilt you're making and the pattern is charming! The name "You are my Sunshine" comes to mind as I look at it. Am looking forward to seeing your version!!

I, too, rotate seasonal small quilts in my home and love those little changes in the decor. My August quilt has sunflower fabrics along with the deep blues and deep greens of late summer. It was made from Mary Ellen Hopkins' Hidden Wells pattern.

Hope you enjoy every stitch in making this happy quilt!

Hugs!

Hi Susan, I too love sunflowers. Your quilt is going to be awesome. I want to learn how to applique on a quilt square. I am taking lessons but haven't had time to do much this summer. The winter is the time that I get more quilting done.

I finished my pages already for Kathy. One more to do for Beverly and our circle will be finished. I have loved the journey. I am looking forward to getting mine back.

Hugs, Jeanne

Susan, I have wanted to let you know Regina Carter is in my Guild and she is a wonderful long-arm quilter. I've been having trouble getting your blog to download. Don't know what the problem is. I enjoy your blog very much.
