What a Great Week!

Sister Ramey and I decided to ignore the cold, ignore the pain, ignore the covid lurking around every corner and get busy betting busy. We had some fine outings this week.

Two lunches out: once at Mangos for Mexican food and once at The Three Earred Rabbit so we could sample their ooey gooey sundae.

We also made a trip to the local thrift store where we didn't find much, except I did find this fun owl pendant for $3.99.

Owl - 1

I also did my weekly grocery shopping  and several other errands. Today I have to pick up a prescription and get some kitty litter, which I forgot when I did the grocery shopping. Then I think I'll rest and read for the remainder of the day.

Love your new owl pendant and that Sundae looks to die for. Serious yum! Am so glad you have had a good week!

For the 1st time this winder, we may have snow on Thursday!

I've finally finished the 2nd small Christmas tree wall quilt and am on to a baby quilt for a baby girl who is due in March! Yikes! I really have a deadline looming. Am making a pastel Rail Fence with 5 squared of Beatrix Potter's well dressed animals.

At Last

Logcabin - 1 (1)

Logcabin - 1

Backing2

I finally got into my long-neglected sewing room yesterday and stitched up the backing for Karen't log cabin quilt. I think this might very well be the last big quilt (queen or larger) that I make. With my pain and stiffness issues, I find it very hard to handle large pieces of fabric.

The pieced strip goes vertically down the backing, not horizontally as it looks to be in the photos.

Now I have to decide on a quilter. As I think I've said before, Lena, who has been quilting for me for many years, retired. I have several possibles. Just have to look at some of their work and decide.

It's a drizzly wet day today, and I have to venture out into it for grocery shopping. I don't mind wet days, but I detest grocery shopping.

Wonderful quilt backing and quilt! Hope some of your quilt guild members can recommend an excellent long-arm quilter to you or perhaps you can ask Lena for a referral?
It's raining here today, too.

Weekend Report

CookiesGuess what I had for breakfast.

Andy knows that Italian cookies are my favorite cookies ever. So she brought me some on Saturday. I had made chili Mac, and we had a great lunch then watched "Black Mass." We watched another movie too, but I can't remember the title or much about it. I don't think it was very good. We were going to watch "The Banshees of Inisherin" but decided we were both too sleepy and would wait until we could pay more attention.

Sock - 1
Backing up, on Friday I had my regular 9-week appointment with my podiatrist. This time, she suggested that I wear compression knee-highs. So I ordered some and have been wearing them in the daytime. I can tell at night when I take them off to go to bed that my feet and ankles aren't swollen like they were before I started wearing them.

Yesterday, I got half of my bathroom cleaned. Today I hope to do the other half.

And Remember...

Good breakfast and those cookies gave you the energy to clean a bit, no doubt.
Hope the compression hose are comfortable as well as helpful.
Yes, I remember. What a remarkable man.

Yesterday, Tornados; Today, Snow Flurries

GSNQOTISX5F2RKFK4MX4XN2Q2Y-1Some of the destruction from tornados that hit Selma, Alabama and other communities in the state.

What a week we've had in our country. We lost classic rock guitarist Jeff Beck and daughter of Elvis, Lisa Marie Presley. And this morning I learned that a local celebrity, Country Boy Eddie Burns, has passed. As host of a local early morning TV show out of Birmingham, he was part of my life for as far back as I can recall. He also gave some big-time celebs air time before they were big-time celebs. Both Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette were guests on the Country Boy Eddie Show way back in the day.

All air traffic was grounded because of some rebellious Hal9000-type computer. I just read that First Lady Jill Biden has had cancerous lesions removed. And closer to home, monster tornados attacked Alabama. Much destruction; some deaths. And this morning, snow flurries. I'm ready for this week to be over. No tornadoes here, although we were included in the tornados watch for part of the day. Just rain and thunder.

Even closer to home, the effects of covid are hanging on here. Congestion and extreme fatigue and weakness continue for me. And Jesse still hasn't regained his senses of taste and smell. I've read up on all this and found out it can take months for full recovery. But Jesse has a friend who lost his smell and taste with covid two years ago and still have not got them back.

And today is Friday the 13th. What can we expect this date to bring?

Sorry for the tornado damage and losses. I, too have been rocked by the deaths of so many people I've known of for most of my life.

What a bother about the lingering effects of covid and hope they become a thing of the past soon.

Enjoy your lovely home and beautiful quilts as you sit and read!

Hugs!

There were definitely lots of sad things in the news. Hopefully there are brighter days ahead and you both recover from your illness quickly.

Pressing On

I'm trying very hard to ignore my lingering effects of covid and carry on with my life--but it's not easy.

Yesterday I had an appointment with the foot doctor. She says my feet look good, but I told her they don't feel too pretty good, especially at night when their pain often keeps me awake. She suggested compression knee highs. So I ordered several pairs today.

Book club met today at Mango's Mexican Grill for our first meeting of the new year. Every one was there, not a member absent. We had a sumptuous repast then discussed the book HORSE by Geraldine Brooks. I had not quite got around to finishing the book, but I enjoyed the discussion anyway. It makes me very uncomfortable to read about race horses (I hate horse racing; equate it with animal abuse) and about slavery; and these are the two subjects of the book. I'd rather read about serial killers any day. Weird, huh?

I don't have to go anyplace else until Friday when I have an appointment for a haircut. I'm planning to finish the laundry and maybe work on cleaning a couple of rooms during the next couple of days.

Mexican-chicken-rice-soup-recipe-scaledI had Mexican chicken soup for lunch. I love the stuff.

What delicious looking soup! I was hoping it was homemade and I could ask you for the recipe. Shucks! Will have to look for a recipe on-line or in our bazillion cookbooks.
Did you know Trudy is in surgery today? Do pray.
Hope you can stick to your daily task plans better than I can. Fatigue is a bummer, a bother, and is so very annoying!

Back to Square Three or Four

Chicken - 1
For a couple of days I really thought I was leaving covid behind. But yesterday after lunch it hit again. I slept most of the afternoon and last night, and this morning things aren't much better. I feel weak and tired and just generally rotten with a headache. I rarely ever have headaches anymore.

I don't really have a lot to blog about today. Brain fog won't even let me organize my thoughts. I am thinking about the young football prayer who was critically injured, near death, but seems to be much improved. And about the ridiculous sideshow going on in our House of Representatives. And all the stuff I need to do before this year comes to an end too. They seem to go so fast these days.

I think I'll just go back to bed and read a book.

Well, bother and bummer to the max! How annoying to find yourself feeling crumby all over again. Methinks you're wise to take to your bed, aside from kitty care, of course, and pamper yourself by sleeping all you need to. Let your family know this relapse has befallen you so they can help pamper you, too.

Wishing you WELL!

Spring Has Sprung! Or Has It?

TacoSunshineTaco says he'll just enjoy it while it's here.

Sure feels like spring. We had such strong thunderstorms last night that one boomer knocked a shelf off the living room wall and broke some of my favorite chatchkes. The storms were gone this morning and the sun was bright. I think the temperature is in the mid- or high 70s. Anyway it's warm. I hope we have a little more winter. I haven't had enough snuggling under a quilt with a cup of something hot, a good book, and a cat across my legs.

I think I've officially won my covid battle. All my symptoms seem to be gone. A little bit of congestion still, but I think that's cat allergy. It never goes away unless I take allergy meds. That was a trip, But I know I'm more fortunate than many folks who didn't survive it at all.

I still haven't made it back into the sewing room yet, and I really need to. But I also need to do some more straightening up (I got some done today). I'm just too slow at everything.

Taco certainly looks comfy.

Happy New Year

2158f604801310cf078a47e8d0c3233b

I hope all of you have had as great a holiday season as I have. Yeah, I've had to deal with illness. And  I haven't been able to be with everyone I would have liked, but Andy and Jesse did their best to make up for the absences. We have cooked good food, eaten good food, and watched tons of movies.

Today we had the traditional turnip greens, black-eyed peas, and corn bead with ham. Apple pie and ice cream for dessert.

After movie watching, Andy took down the Christmas tree and packed away the ornaments while I washed up the few dishes we had used. Jesse will take the tree down to the basement and put the boxes of ornaments in the top of my closet.

I'm happy to say that my covid effects seem to be getting better. At first I had an adverse reaction to the Albuterol: trembling and chest tightness. But I spread out the puffs a little, cut out caffeine, and that problem cleared up. Very little coughing now, and only one or two bronchial spams today. Got my fingers crossed that the worst is over.

I'm very tired tonight, so I'm going to get my book, snuggle up with Taco, and enjoy the last dregs of the holiday.

God's blessings to you all.

A belated Happy New Year top you, my friend!
It's good to hear you're feeling better and hope the covid bothers will leave you alone soon.
We also had ham, black-eyed peas, but this year had no cornbread as we had leftover cornbread dressing that DH made. Yum!
Please send Andy here to take down our tree as my energy is very like that of a wet noodle. Ta!
It is unseasonably warm here with the high today of 70*F and the coming 10 day forecast has the lowest daytime temperature at 48*F and most of the other days in the 50s*F to 60s*F so what is up with that?
