Too Busy to Blog

This has been a week of running to and fro and eating too richly. With the exception of Monday, when I worked in the sewing groom for an hour or two while the cleaning lady was here, I’ve got neither sewing nor blogging nor very much reading done.

On Tuesday, Ramey called me in mental anguish, worried about her most recent worry, and insisted I go to the thrift store with her--one of the few things that has proven to give her peace of mind when she’s in a tizzy. So we went. Didn’t find much.

Afterwards we had lunch at Red Robin, where I consumed a delicious guacamole burger and Ramey had a veggie burger. Isn’t “veggie burger” an oxymoron? After dropping Ramey at home, I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things we were out of (of which we were out).

On Wednesday, after I stopped in to see Alana and get a haircut, I went to the grocery store and stocked up for the week, I thought.

But by Thursday, we were out of several things that I had forgot to stock up on. So I made another trip to the grocery store. But before that, Ramey and I had lunch with my handsome nephew Jed. He was in town to close the sale of his mom’s house (our recently departed sister Joanne). We lunched at The Three-Earred Rabbit, where I enjoyed a chicken salad croissant, Ramey had grilled cheese, and Jed had two hot dogs with a bunch of stuff on them. We all had some of The Rabbit’s famous homemade potato chips.

Today, Andy is coming after work for spaghetti dinner. However, I have discovered that I’m out of several ingredients, including spaghetti, necessary for a spaghetti dinner, so I’m changing the menu to chili. I absolutely refuse to go back to the grocery another time this week.

Stay well, everyone. And don’t forget to wash your hands.

Hope you can sit back and enjoy leftovers from those wonderful meals and the chili. We keep a small lined pad of paper on a small clip board and that is where we write our grocery list. Use the last of something, write it on the list. Better yet, use the next to last of something and write it on the list. Going to the grocery or out on errands, take the list! :)

How wonderful that Joanne's house sold so quickly though I know it makes the family sad all over again that you won't be going inside to visit with Joanne again and again. Sigh. Still, many in the family, including you, have some of Joanne's furniture and things in your homes so can always feel the ongoing love.

Rest up and be good to you.

Hugs!

Happy Birthday, Andy

Today is my daughter Angela’s (Andy) birthday. She took the day off from work to celebrate. She’s coming over for a birthday lunch--her favorite, spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic/parmesan bread, and salad. I also made a cake, the traditional family favorite--yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

The house is rather messy, but Andy won’t care. I have used all my spoons this week doing laundry, buying groceries, and feeding us. The Merry Maids come Monday--just in time to avoid disaster.

Wow, there comes some sunshine out my front windows! North Alabama got snow yesterday. We just got more rain.

Millefiori Milestone Coming Up

Mille - 1

I have a few more stars to add to the last row of the first rosette in my millefiori quilt. I don’t think I realized this project would be so time consuming when I decided to do it. My fingers get sore and my hands cramp from the hand stitching. But I’m determined to see it to the end.

I’m watching old episodes of “Twilight Zone” while I work on this. It’s so fun to see the stage-like (high school play stage) sets, atrocious lighting, and pitiful acting. And it’s all in glorious black and white. I saw one episode yesterday in which Agnes Moorehead played a woman who lived in a shack in the wilderness. She was dressed in a shabby dress and dirty apron, her hair was messy--but then we see a close-up of her hands. Her nails are long and perfectly manicured, glowing with shiny clear nail polish. Her acting, though, was pretty good. She never said a word during the entire show, although she did do some groaning and screaming. The only dialogue was at the very end, when we learn the surprise ending.

But seeing all the old tv actors from my childhood is great fun. Some their names I remember, some I don’t. I saw Ronnie Howard (Opie) in an episode a few days ago. Jesse walks by sometime when I'm watching and just shakes his head.

Guess what? It’s raining. It seems like we’ve had rain for months. I don’t really mind, but a lot of people around here claim they're growing moldy. What I don’t like is drouth, which will likely follow this wet spell, if history repeats.

Back to stitching.

How glorious your 1st rosette is and you should be very proud of your progress and achievement. Applause!!

We've had no winter to speak of but today's forecast if for rain turning to snow. Time will tell.

DH was given the entire set of WKRP so we've been enjoying that but we also like the old black and white shows.

Hugs!

Heart to Heart

Journal - 1

Journal - 1 (1)

Valentine’s Day is special to me. It’s the day that Vann asked me to marry him, in 1994. We weren’t married until the following autumn, November 26. I can’t remember exactly why we waiting nine months to do the deed.

The above photos are of an art journal entitled “Heart to Heart,” that was the result of a round robin I took part in in 2012. I created the cover (first photo) and a couple of inside spreads (second photo), and the other participants created spreads as the journals made their rounds.

I’m celebrating Valentine’s Day by having lunch with a couple of friends today. Sister Ramey too. This week got off to an iffy start when I slept late and missed the quilt guild meeting on Monday morning. But then things picked up on Tuesday when I made book club meeting. We met at Joan’s house where she and her husband Frank treated us to a Mardi Gras-themed lunch, complete with decorations. The gumbo was strictly New Orleans style and delicious. We even had king cake (Nell got the baby) with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Tomorrow I’ll be attending a graveside service for Jack, my nephew who passed away recently.

The weather here has been soggy, but today we have sunshine and chilly temps. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? The past year’s weather has been crazy and changing constantly.

Gotta go get ready for my lunch date. Happy Valentine’s Day to all.

What a lovely memory of Vann's proposal in 1994 and what a heart=full of happy memories you have after your many years together!

The Heart Journal is beautiful and is clearly full of love, too.

Sorry you missed the Monday quilt guild meeting but someone probably has photos to share with you if you ask around.

Joan and Frank certainly made the book club meeting a treat for all. What fun!

Again, sympathy for the untimely loss of Jack.

Happy Valentine's day!

Your Valentine memories are so sweet, marriage proposal and all. I'm sure I was reading your blog back when Vann was alive and in your day. So sorry we have to soldier on when husbands leave before us. Your Heart journal was darling. I have never seen one before. Hope I remember to create one with my little grandson soon. Your weather sounds like DFW, sunny one day, warm the next and then the warm weather invites cold soggy days with much colder air. So glad I didn't live on the prairie in pioneer days. Sounds like you're getting around more. I used to work for a pain clinic, and most patients had at least medium to real good results from pain blocks etc., although there are no guarantees.

Paper Piecing Progress

Millefioriprog - 1

I have been working diligently on my millefiori quilt, but this is as far as I’ve got. It’s slow going. But that’s more than 100 little pieces hand-sewn together, so I feel pretty good about the progress.

They tell us the groundhog did not see his shadow on Monday, so we’ll have an early spring. I got news for Mr. Woodchuck: where I live, we’ve had an early spring all winter. I think temps got just to freezing for a couple of nights, but mostly they have been very temperate. Spring flowers have been blooming for several weeks. I don’t know about everyone else, but I think we need a little winter to kill the bugs and give the snakes a chance to hibernate.

Still no real relief from the back pain, but the six weeks is not over yet, so I’m trying to be patient.

What a lovely block you've created for your ambitious Millifiore Quilt! Applause, applause!

Out weather has been about the same as yours. We had a dusting of snow in mid-November and cold, cold weather in early December but none in the daytime since. AMIL's hyacinths are coming up, our cherry tree is in bloom, and I saw a robin yesterday. We'd like several really cold days and nights to - as you said - kill the bugs.

I hope the pain disappears as if by magic very, very soon.

Big hugs!
