Witches

Witches
“Witch Hunt” now has borders.

I got back into the sewing room this morning. First time in more than a week. I got the borders cut and sewn on my “Witch Hunt” quilt. So now it’s ready for quilting.

This has been a pretty rough summer for me--pain-wise, fatigue-wise, back-wise, and every kind of wise I can think of. Couple that with the fact that I have lost my cleaning help. Anna has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is now going through the procedures and treatments to get her well again. She has a good prognosis, so we are very hopeful. But if you’re so inclined, a little prayer for her healing would be appreciated.

She keeps saying she’ll be able to work again once she has healed from her biopsies and port implant. So I’ve hesitated to find someone else. I can’t imagine cleaning house during a period of chemo treatments, but I don’t want her to think I don’t want her back. So for now, Jesse and I are trying to keep the place livable. I remember when I worked, I would clean the entire house on Saturday, plus do laundry, and still have the energy to go out to dinner with Vann. Now just vacuuming the downstairs puts me on the couch for a couple of days. I’ve been in the process of cleaning my bathroom of three days. I finally have the jacuzzi tub cleaned, now it’s on to the shower.

Other news from the summer involves my kids. Cait and Kathryn moved to Birmingham from Providence, Rhode Island. I have seen them more in the past month than I had during the past six years combined. And my other daughter Andy had her gall bladder removed. But she’s doing fine now.

Although we have had worse summers, this one seems to have taken a bigger toll than usual on me. But hope is on the way. I saw a little yellow butterfly yesterday. We always count on the little yellow butterfly migration as the first sign of fall. And I just looked at the weather forecast for the rest of the week. Highs predicted to be in the high 70s and low 80s. With rain and thunderstorms. I like rain and thunderstorms (so long as they don’t come with tornados). I also like the prospect of cooler temperatures. As you probably know, I am not a hot-weather-loving person.

Jesse started a new job toady with an electrical contractor. He has to be a work at 6:00 a.m, but he gets off at 2:30. He’s home and ready for some supper, so here I go to whip something up. Have a good evening, all.

I am so excited to see the quilt when it is backed and finished!
I am so sorry about Anna. She will be in my thoughts.
Be careful cleaning. How can such a small thing give us such bodily grief? It really annoys me that I cannot do things like I use to do.
Our temps will still be in the high 80's through mid-August. Just hope the humidity stays down.
Hope Jesse likes his new job!
Hugs and love 💖

Witch Hunt is perfect and thos borders are just the right finishing touch!

Anna will be in my prayers, too.

Cheers that your girls are nearby and that Andy is recovering well.

I am so with you on the fatigue issue and find cleaning wipes me out, too. Oh, for the days when II could do it all and have energy to spare. Sigh! Heat wies me out, tooo. Bummer.

Wishing Jesse well at his new job. DS1 has just passed his 90 day probation period at his almost new job!

Hugs!

Your quilt is just so cute! Kudos to you! I’ve missed you but knew you were probably having trying days. I’m sorry about Anna’s illness. Praying her surgery and treatments go well. It is challenging to “keep house”-I could have written every word you did about Saturday cleaning & energy. Lately I’ve been using FlyLady as a motivator just to keep up with little jobs/areas. Sometimes she gets laid off. Prayers for you & your family-daughters/moving/surgeries... Hope Jesse enjoys his new job!

Wow! What a summer for you! I do't have big health issues, but I still hate to clean. I wonder if a more normal schedule will help you cope better. I hope so. Take care,

What a cute witch quilt. We are all longing for cooler days. TX is finished (maybe) with the 110 degree days, just have to accommodate the 95+ days for a while. Any relief gratefully accepted. My DIL is just going through the treatment for breast cancer. Happy to report that rounds of two different chemos and 3 surgeries have eaten up the time since diagnosis, but she's had good care, worked full steam, and still had time for family and a busy 2-year-old. It's not the treatment it was 30 years ago when it wiped patients out. A lot depends on prior health, age, and the care you take when diagnosed. Hope Andy feels on the mend soon. If her GB had stones or was not working, she may feel better without the GB. So glad you will have more family around, and Jesse will have a new routine that may dovetail with yours. You are special to provide what you can.

New Toys

I have wanted some of these little clips for a while now. But I found them to be very pricey in the online quilt shops, $25-$30. So I've just continued to use my old hair clips for my projects. Then someone on Facebook posted that they got some from Amazon for about $9. So I hopped on over to Amazon and ordered a cute little tin with 100 clips inside for $8.99. I got free shipping because I'm a Prime member. The tin that I'd seen advertised on quilt-shop sites for more than $25, which holds 160 clips, is available at Amazon also, for just $12.99. But I figured 100 clips would be a gracious plenty for me, even considering I'll probably lose many of them, and the cats and Skipper will hide a few more. Anyway, I like this tin better than the one that holds the 160 clips.

Assuming Skipper will tolerate me being in the sewing room for a little while today, I'm going to start a new project, another small Halloween quilt, this time as a gift for someone. Photos later.

Witch Hunt

Witchhunt1

I had a quantum burst of energy or determination or something this morning, climbed the stairs to the sewing room, and finished my "Witch Hunt" top. I had decided to make a small wallhanging/table topper for a number of reason. 1) Sewing time has dwindled lately, 2) I have some other projects that are calling to me, and 3) a small quilt will be more useful and take up less storage space.

I'm considering maybe adding an outer border. The above photos show to two fabrics I have auditioned so far for the border. What do you think? I think the grey would like good with a spider web design quilted into it. There may be others fabrics to consider. I haven't quite finished perusing my stash for possibilities.

All right, Skipper is bugging me, as he always does when I'm in the sewing room. He doesn't like me to have fun without him. Guess I'll have to take the boy downstairs.

The polka dots! I'm a sucker for polka dots!
This is going to be a cute wall hanging or table topper.

The black definitely makes it pop. Hope you feel better. The heat for us here up north has definitely made it hard to feel ambitious.

Well done! I think the polka dots add more pazazz than the gray. I have a great spider web pring that is silver on black and even Ds1 called "creepy"!

Remember to sew hanging triangles on the top two corners so it's easier to hang. :)

Hugs!

Cute Witch quilt. Totally understand about smaller projects sure hope you’re feeling better in days ahead. Love the pic of your three fur babies!

Hummmmm .... perhaps another name to consider for this quilt is "Bewitched"? Your thoughts? :)

Greetings

I’ve had some pretty trying days lately. The fatigue has been absolutely crushing, and unless I’m off my feet, it’s hard to concentrate on anything except the pain and fatigue. I apologize for ignoring the blog. I have also ignored the sewing room. I haven’t been in there for more than a week now.

However, my furbies agreed to pose for a picture so I would have something to post today. Well, actually, they didn’t so much agree as I just sort of snuck up and snapped a picture while they were relaxing. I call it “The Fearsome Threesome.” That’s Taco in the middle. Broad in the beam, that cat is. Bella in on the right, and Skipper is on the left. I don’t often catch the three of them reclining together like this. I’m glad I was able to capture the moment.

I'd forgotten about that expression "broad in the beam". It made me smile and think of a few individuals I've known and loved. Hope you feel better soon Susan. The current heat wave we are having is causing my feet to swell up something awful. I have cankles.

So sorry for your fatigue and discomfort. I'm right there with your as I've been too tired to sew and have done something to my back that is acting ugly (a Southern expression for misbehaving). Wish we lived closer so we could meet for tea and cookies.

Love the photo of the fur-babies!

Hugs!

Witch Number Three

Witch3

I found an instruction on one page of the directions for "Garden Ladies" that I had missed before. It says that when each block is finished, It should be trimmed to 10 1/2" x 12 1/2". So that will theoretically take care of the size differences in the blocks. I say "theoretically" because one of my blocks already didn't quite meet the 10 1/2" width for all rows. But the quilt will be sashed,, so I figure I can adjust the sashing widths as needed to work out this little quirk.

A word to the wise: If you are a beginner quilter, don't try this pattern until you have some quilting miles under your belt. The instructions are not perfect. You have to do some analytical thinking on this one. I'm not saying it rises to the level of "difficult," but if you haven't made a few quilts already, you could get confused. Actually, I've made many, many quilts, and I've been confused with this pattern. Some of the cutting instructions aren't even complete, so I had to fill in for one of these three blocks. I don't know what surprises the rest of the block patterns might hold. But the little extra thinking is going to be worth the effort, I think, when all my witches are dressed and ready to fly.

Love Witch #3! Thanks for the good advice, too.

I'm late seeing this post so will wish you a Hally 4th of July! We're having hot dogs with slaw, baked beans corn on the cob, deviled eggs, and banana pudding! We'll also watch "1776" because we always do.

Hugs!
