Sweet Land of Liberty

Flag
I was, like, nine or ten years old before I knew that the reason we eat barbecue and shoot off fireworks on July 4 was NOT because it was my daddy's birthday. And even though I'm aware now that the holiday is for rejoicing because we live in the best country on earth, still enjoying many freedoms (for now) as well as beautiful landscapes and wonderful people, July 4 remains for me, first and foremost, the anniversary of the birth of my daddy, Gordy Ramey.Dadd_2
Daddy left us to meet Jesus on January 15, 1977, more than 30 years ago now. We all still miss him, but we know he's been enjoying great peace and happiness (at least until Mama got there in January of 2005). Happy Birthday, Daddy. Your earthly body would be 96 today. So it's just as well that you left it behind. Tell Mama hey. I hope she isn't giving you too hard a time.

Vann is cooking that much discussed butt/shoulder today. We've got friends (another blessing) coming over to share it this afternoon. We're also having baked beans, potato salad, homemade bread, pound cake, strawberries, and sweet tea. I'll take pictures.

Happy Birthday, America. Happy 4th, everyone. On this anniversary of Freedom and the birth of my daddy, I wish freedom for all and peace for our world.
