Nothing Hard Is Ever Easy

Teapot

The assignment this week in my digital photography workshop was to shoot and post "one great photo" of a still life featuring three main objects. More than 300 shots and three cups of coffee* later, this is what I posted. I'm pretty sure it's not great, and, if you count the saucer, there are four main objects instead of three; but I think of a cup and saucer as one thing, don't you?

For some reason, this was the hardest assignment yet. I think it's because the instructor specifically requested "one great photo." That scared me. I'm not sure what she considers great. Great makes me think of Ansel Adams or Annie Lebowitz. Not me. Oh well, I like it. There's lots of pink, which makes anything good, and maybe even great.

*The stuff in the cup is coffee, not tea. And I kept drinking it while I was doing the photography. I had to fill the cup three times before I got a shot I liked. And that's after my usual two cups earlier this morning. I sort of feel like I've been hit by an electrical power surge.

I think you did a beautiful job! I'm mostly impressed that you don't have too much glare off the shiny surfaces. That's a real problem I have when I photograph something reflective. But wow, 300 tries! You sure don't give up easily, LOL!

I like this one better too! I like the tighter crop. Makes it more "artsy." It has a nice cast to the overall color as well. Good job!

Now if you're talking coffee, check out Kathy's post on Java:

The tight shot is the more unusual. Just not her cup of tea.
