Sweetheart Cat

Cat block

Here's the February cat tea cup block. I skipped January for now because, in all my massive fabric hoard, I can't find what I want to make January's cat. I have, or have had, somewhere, a plastic bin with snowmen, snowflakes, and other snow fabrics. I've been through every bin, three times, and I can't find that fabric. So I just skipped January until I remember where I put that fabric or I buy some more.

Jesse is working down on the Gulf coast this week, so the cats and I have the house to ourselves. It's still pretty chilly, but not near as much as last week. I plan to leave out any and all cooking while Jesse's away. It's gonna be salads and order in for me this week. Kibble for the cats.

What a cute February kitty cup block!!

Hope you locate your winter fabrics soon. I put my winter fabrics in a drawer so had to use a folded index card to write 'Winter Fabrics' and then hang the card over the drawer edge. 'Out of sight, out of mind' is no good for fabric storage!!

Don't forget to have some soup while you're not cooking this week. 'Tis the season for soup.

Hugs!

Just love your kitties! I know how frustrating it is to have "just the right thing" in mind, and then not be able to find it!

Sew and Sew

CqqDecember Cat Calendar Block

After having not done any sewing at all since before the holidays, I finally spent two days (well, parts of two days) there this past week, Friday and Saturday. I got the rows of the chicken quilt sewn together (still trying to decide whether to add another border), and constructed the December block for my cat calendar quilt.

It's as cold as a witch's toenails here, a condition that I think exists in much of the country. I decided to avoid the cold and stay home from church this morning. Usually I love cold weather, but lately it affects my pain level quilt a bit. I found myself this morning, as I was trying to get in the shower without disaster, thinking of barbecue and watermelon. I know once July, in all its glorious heat and humidity, are here, I'll be thinking of January.

Stay warm, good folks.

What cute cat blocks and I love the various fabrics in the cups to represent each month!

I've grown tired of cold weather, too, but the coming 10 days will be warmer so there will be no snow.

Will send you a photo of the finished pillow that was mailed yesterday.

Hugs!

Icy Forecast

418538149_935335021297855_5489624617077613969_n

This is so oftentimes the type of winter weather we experience around here: slippery, hazardous ice. Ice on highway and roads, making driving very dangerous. Ice on lines and trees, taking out power sources for hours at a time. Ice on driveway and sidewalks, making even a trip to the mailbox something you want to avoid.

To the north of us in places like Florence and Huntsville, there's beautiful white snow. Nothing but cloudy here, but we're told tonight will bring us frigid temperatures and ice in all the wrong places.

We've had this prediction for several days, so I thought I should go to the grocery store after church yesterday to stock up on not just milk, bread, and toilet paper (although I got all those things) but all the other stuff of which we were about out. I guess most of the area had the same idea. The store was super crowded and the shelves were frustratingly bare. But I was able to get everything I went for, with a few substitutions for my favorites, and we are hunkered down for the duration.

I understand that much of the country will be experiencing hazardous winter conditions this week. So I wish you all warmth and wellness. And I pray for all, human and animal, who have to be outside. Bring your pets in, folks. Even if they pee on the floor or otherwise cause problems, don't let them suffer.

Oh, I remember a January when Memphis had ice storms every Wednesday that month and most our our ER patients' chief complaint was "Slipped and fell on ice". It's wise to stay home and leave the newspaper in the driveway rather than risk a fall!

We went to the grocery yesterday, too, because that's what you do when snow and ice are in the forecast! Flannel sheets and quilts are appreciated when it's freezing gold outside.

We awoke to sleet that turned to snow but it's all stopped now.

Hugs!

Busy Morning

BreakCass - 1

I got up early this morning because I had planned to make a breakfast casserole for our coffee after church today. Strike that: What I meant to say was I planned to get up early this morning, even thought I did. So I was chugging along in the kitchen, cooking and washing dishes. At one point, I decided I'd better check my recipe (which is online) to see that I hadn't forgotten anything for my casserole, which I was about to slide into the oven.

According to my computer, I was much too late to worry about church at this point. The time at the top of my screen showed that I had 15 minutes to bake my dish, get ready, and get to church. That can't be right, I thought. So I checked the clock beside my bed and the one in the kitchen which told me I had plenty of time to get to church. So I checked the computer again, thinking I had just seen it wrong. But, no, It was much too late to finish my baking and get to church.

I realized what had happened: A couple of nights ago, we had a fierce storm and a power outage that lasted most of the night. When I reset my clocks, I obviously reset them to the wrong time.

But the casserole is not going to waste. Daughter Andy came over and took some home with her. I ate a chunk for brunch. And I'm sure Jesse will have some at some point. I'll probably have some more for supper tonight. It's quite tasty. It's made with sausage, eggs, cheese (both cheddar and Monterey Jack) butter, Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix, and some spices. (If you'd like to see the recipe, here's the link: https://notentirelyaverage.com/breakfast-recipes-with-sausage-and-eggs/) Just cut and paste into your browser window.

Oh, dear! What a bothersome annoyance to have the clock set wrong but am glad the casserole didn't go to waste!

A few days ago my bedside clock stopped at about 2am and when I awoke, it was daytime but the clock said 2:00 and that was startling. I took the clock downstairs but had breakfast before getting a new battery and, lo and behold, it had started running again so I sent to for the right time and back it went to the bedside table.

I finally took all the ornaments off of the Christmas tree and not I have to put them in their boxes. Want to come help?!

Hugs!

Over the years I’ve enjoyed your blog - especially the list of books & your reviews. When I saw the title “Bitter Blood”, I had to write. I read the book several years ago & that was after I saw the TV movie (or was it mini-series?). When you say some family members are “dangerously nutty” truer words were never spoken. Kelly McGillis is in the movie & does an outstanding job of portraying a wack-o. Harry Hamlin & Keith Carradine are also in it. Both book & movie left quite an impression on me.

Have a Happy & SAFE 2024 & avoid the dangerously nutty!

All Over But the Cleanup

The holidays were awesome. But even though I didn't go all out decorating this year, I still have some cleanup and put-away to do. Not my favorite part of the holidays.

We finished up last night by watching Alabama play Michigan in the Rose Bowl. And even though Bama lost by a touchdown in overtime, we're still mighty proud of them.  Congrats to the Wolverines. You beat a fine team.

We've had our greens and black-eyed peas with my homemade cornbread., and we're ready for a prosperous New Year. I wish prosperity and peace to all my friends and family (and to everyone else).

JacketfrontJacket Front

Sister Ramey and I used the days between to do some going out for lunch and visiting some of the local thrift stores. We didn't find many treasures this time, but I am quite proud of the doggie jacket I found (photos above and below). I don't often wear jackets, coats, and sweaters, being as how I stay hot most of the time. (Vann always said my thermostat was broken.) But I loved this one so much. I might never wear it, but it'll be mine all the same.

LOVE the jacket and am so glad to hear you had a wonderful holiday!!

I spy Santa over the mantle and you have nothing to be embarrassed about - very few of my decorations are taken down and none are packed away.yet.

Wishing you, family, and us all a healthy, joyful, and creative 2024, for this country, a BLUE November, and for the world, peace.

Hugs!
