Better Things to Come--I Hope

Yellow-butterfly-meaning
Things have been crazy around here for the past week. First of all, daughter Andy took a fall in the parking lot where she works and suffered a fracture to her ankle. We'll know in a few days (when she goes back to the orthopedist) whether or not she'll have to have surgery. Then sister Ramey's air conditioner in her car went out and she couldn't get it fixed until today. So on top of worrying about Andy's ankle, I've been playing chauffeur.

The temperatures have hovered around 100 in the daytime. The hot weather has a super negative affect on me, so all my health issues have been acting up big time. The pain, fatigue, uncoordination, discombobulation, etc. My hands and arms don't seem to want to cooperate when I try to hold or carry anything. Yesterday after church, Ramey and I stopped by Publix to pick up some lunch. As I was removing my two bags from the buggy, I dropped one and watermelon chunks went all over the floor. The young man who bagged for me was so kind. He not only cleaned up my mess, but he also went and got me another container of watermelon. When I finally got home, I ate my lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch. Almost as soon as it got dark I went to bed and read until I went to sleep. Today I just feel pooped.

I was glad to see The Little Yellow Butterfly flitting about while I was running hither and yon. He's late this year. I usually see him by late July or early August. But he's here now, and that's a sure sign Autumn is on the way, thank the Great Pumpkin.

Before all the commotion began, I got a sunflower block made for the farm animals quilt. When I get one more sunflower done, I'll be ready to put it all together.

Stay cool, folks.

Sue,

Do you take a statin? I had the strangest thing happen to me. I have taken a statin for years and progressively suffered from worsening bladder control, sore muscles, weakness and just overall blahness. I am 80 years old so attributed a lot of it to age. I developed a bladder infection and the doctor took me off my statin while I took the antibiotic to cure it. Within two days I could make it to the bathroom without peeing my pants and the pain in my feet and ankles was greatly reduced. However, my bad cholesterol increased again so he convinced me to go back on a statin and prescribed a different one at a much lower dose. After about a month taking it the same aches and pains bothered me only much worse. I stopped the statin three days ago and cannot believe the difference. Last night I only had to get up once in the night to urinate! It is such a relief. My doctor won't be happy but thankfully my numbers are not so bad that I can probably control them by being careful with my diet. Just saying, it might be worth mentioning it to your doctor. It has made such a difference in how I feel! Hope this helps because I know how much you are probably suffering,

Mary

I'm sorry for Andi's fx ankle and hope she won't need surgery to fix it. A cast in the heat will be bad enough!

Am glad your sister's car A/C is being fixed today.

Bless your heart with all you put up with physically and the heat, too. Hope Mary's information applies to you so there is some hope.

Hugs!

An addendum: I was talking with a long distance friend last evening and telling her of my experience with the statins. Coincidentally, she was once prescribed the very same statin, had the very same symptoms and she is at least 15 years younger than I am so no chance age is the culprit for her. I am still feeling so much better and enjoying much more comfortable sleep. The number the statin did on my muscles, particularly bladder, was unbelievable and the relief almost immediate.

Baaaa

Sheep4

I don't have much to report today, except the last animal for my farm animals quilt, the wooly sheep, is done. Now I have to make two sunflower blocks to finish out the design. Then I can put them all together.

I hope it's a little cooler where you are than it is here. We have a heat advisory today. I think the entire summer should have been under a heat advisory. This weather is making me absolutely sick--and I don't need any more physical problems to deal with. Going outside is horrible--even just on to the back porch.

Jesse has lost more than 20 pounds in the last couple of months on a diet where he eats only meat, cheese, and eggs. I don't think it's healthy, but I don't think he'll do it for much longer. I just don't love meat and cheese that much. Have to have me some veggies and fruit. I have cut out a lot of carbs--no more desserts, cookies, ice cream, etc. I've been doing that since Jesse started his diet and have lost about 10 pounds.

I think I'll go make a sunflower block now.

What a darling and fluffy sheep and a worthy companion for your many other critters!

I so agree on the weather and the horrid humidity that makes the air thick and the high pollen that makes for runny noses and sneezes. Bummer and bother. A couple of weeks ago even though I have no respiratory problems couldn't stay outside for long but now the pollen count has finally dropped. Tomorrow is the last day in the 90s*F and thereafter in the 10 day forecast, it will be highs in the 80*s - unless something changes.

Seems I cannot be bothered to sew and that is annoying.

Hugs!

Some Pig

Piggy
I borrowed a quote from E.B. White's wonderful book Charlotte's Web for my headline here. If you haven't read this amazing book, I'll explain. Charlotte, the spider, weaves messages of praise for Wilbur the pig, in her attempt to save him from slaughter, as the farmer has planned. "Some Pig" is one of her messages.

I'll tell you no more. To find out what happens you'll have to read the book.

My depiction of Wilbur will of course become a part of my farm animals quilt. I still have a sheep and two sunflowers to complete the planned blocks. But I'm thinking now that I might also create a block showing Charlotte's web.

To Keep the Farm Pollenated

Bee Block

This week, I made this honey bee block for my little farm animals quilt. I also made some acorn blocks (but I don't have a photo yet) to go with an autumn panel quilt I'm planning.

That's about all I've done this week except read. A symptom of several of the physical conditions I deal with is fatigue--and that symptom has been ever present this week.

The foot pain did lessen quite a bit at the beginning of the week. But it came back with a vengeance in the middle of last night. So from 2:00 a.m. on, I didn't sleep very much.

Note to Sandra C: I still haven't seen that little yellow butterfly. I think he's quite late this year. We did get a couple of days of cooler, less humid weather in the middle of the week. So maybe he'll be here soon.

Love your bee block! We've left areas of clover for the bees and rabbits.

Your autumn quilt will be a delight!

I'm with you on the fatigue and hope we can both be done with it by some miracle.

Hugs!

What a Week!

Below are photos from my quilt bee meeting on Monday, the first one in two years. Try to ignore the deer head that is looking on. The meeting was held at Doris's; she and her husband are game hunters. They have heads and other pieces of critters all over their house. I try not to judge.

Bee1
Bee2
Bee?

Bee??

I've turned into a real homebody in the past few years. I prefer staying home as much as possible. But this week has not let me stay home much. Every day has brought some errand or appointment or club meeting.

Monday was Quilt Bee--the first time we've met in two years. First Covid put a stop to bee meetings. Then during the pandemic we just got out of the habit and had a hard time getting started again. I hope we continue with regular meetings (although I don't like going out). It sure was good to see everyone and catch up.

Tuesday was Book Club--We met at the church. Members Nell and Hope provided a delicious lunch, after which we had a great discussion of our book, SPARE by Prince Harry. Everyone seems to have enjoyed the book and learned a few things, including some sad things, about the prince.

Wednesday was Grocery Shopping--Many times Jesse does this chore for me, but this time I felt like there were some things that I need to pick up myself.

Thursday Was Neurologist Appointment--for tests on my feet and legs to check out the neuropathy problem. Lots of electroshock and poking with needles. It really wasn't too terribly painful. Just sort of nerve wracking. First of all I had a heck of a time finding the office, which is located in one of Birmingham's massive medical complexes. I finally had to call the font desk and have them lead me.

Today I have an appointment with my podiatrist--in just a short while, actually. I'm hoping she will be able to tell me something of the results from the neurology test.

So after today, I'm planning to lie on the sofa or in bed with Taco Cat and read. Maybe watch a movie or two. I hope I don't have to go anywhere else for a while. Oh yeah--there's church Sunday. Well maybe at least tomorrow will be free.

Note: I hope there aren't too many errors in this post. No time to check thoroughly. I have to go or I'll be late for my appointment.

I am exhausted just reading where all you've been this past week! Hope the podiatrist had news from your tests,

Love the quilts from your Bee and agree about all hunting unless it's for food that is needed for meals!.

No news yet from T's MRI this morning, will let you kn0w.

Hugs!

Is it just me, or does it look like the deer is gazing approvingly at the quilts in the pictures? (Tee hee!) I guess everyone and everything enjoys a thing of beauty.

Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

Chicken - 1
Well to have the opportunity to appear in my farm animals quilt, of course.

Today my quilt bee met for the first time in two years. I snapped a couple of shots, and I'll post some as soon as I recuperate from the trip. Right now, I have to lie down.I tell you truly, I'm not at all sure I can live through another Alabama summer. It's like Hell with the heat on out there.  There's got to be a better way to spend a summer.

Later, gators.

Cute chicken block and he/she is a high stepper!

I hear you on summer heat in the South. Our summer has been oddly cooler for the most part but when it's in the upper 90s*F, it's a misery. Sweet AMIL used to say that as she aged, she was less tolerant of hot summers. Me, too. You, three?

I look forward to your bee photos!

Hugs!

News from the Sewing Machine

House
Except for a few hand embroidery details, I think "Rosie's Dollhouse" is finished. And I'm also thinking of putting a snowman on the front yard, just to emphasize the snow.

I'm also thinking of asking my long-arm quilting friend if she can baste it for me for hand quilting. But I'm not sure about that yet.

Cat
Don't miss the kitty cat (above) waiting at the front door to be let in out of the cold.

Cow
My cow is ready to join my farm animal quilt. But I have a few more blocks to go yet.

Various friends on Facebook are talking about tastes of Autumn and cooler weather where they are. I''m afraid that condition hasn't made it to Alabama yet. Still hot and humid. In fact, it's so dang hot that I just saw a hound dog chasing a rabbit—and they were both walking. Not really. But it is hot.

Oh, and if you're looking for a very very very good book to read, I suggest Hello, Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. I just finished it, and it has nudged out The Past Is Never by Tiffany Quay Tyson as the best book I've read all year--but not by much. I recommend them both to those who love really good storytelling.

Rosie's Coll House is precious and am so glad you've been able to finish it! I think the snowman is a good idea, too. Hope your quilter can get it basted for you. Also hope someone can let that chilly kitty indoors!

Thanks for the book recommendations as I love to read.

Last week it was hot here, Temperatures topped in the upper 90s*F and that didn't count the heat index which maxed out Saturday at 110*F. Happily, it's back in the 80s*F now which is nearly unheard of here for August.

Hugs!
