Just a Post

Mantel - 1 (1)

I was scheduled to host quilting bee on Monday, but it looks as if most of our members are going to be out of town. So bee is cancelled. At least I won't have to worry about having everything tidied up by then. I've started working on it, but my progress is as slow as molasses on a January morn.

I got half the laundry done yesterday, and I think the rest can wait a day or two. I'm going to try to get into the sewing room today and work on putting Karen's quilt blocks together. When I first started her quilt in June, I thought it might be done by Halloween. No way is that going to happen. I hope at least by Christmas though.

Every time another doctor puts me on another drug, I gain another five more pounds. Now even my fat clothes are getting tight.

Love your mantel and I wonder if you change the fabric behind the window for the seasons?
Sorry about the weight gain as meds can do that - especially for us who don't have the energy to keep moving or to actually exercise.
Thanks for the book update yesterday! I've reserved "The Boys" and Karen T. Walker's two books at our library. I really enjoyed Laurie R. King's book series about Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell, good mysteries all with interesting historical details but not tense or scary.

Hugs!

Against the Wind

"I'm older now but still running...against the wind." --Bob Segar

Curtains - 1

It took me only a little over a week to get six curtain panels hemmed. Not too long ago, I could have done it all in a couple of hours. I'm not showing the hems because they aren't exactly even. The fabric was so hard to deal with. The weave is so open that the fabric is very unstable and won't be still--not as I measured it, not as I pinned it, and not as I sewed it. (I couldn't make the non-sew tape work at all.) But most of the hemlines are behind chairs and tables, so I don't think the small differences will matter.  Well they certainly don't matter to me enough to do them over.

TacoAs you see, Taco is still enjoying his favorite activity.

Well done in getting the new curtains hemmed ... and good enough!

Love your cross stitch Garden Poem as that's been one of my favorite poems since I first read it decades ago.

Methinks I would curl up next to Taco!

Hugs!

well that explains why so many curtains "puddle" on the floor. That is one way to avoid the issues you tackled! My Taco, named Lisbeth, is snoring loudly as I type...the only thing she enjoys more is dinner!

Ukraine Sunflowers

Twosunflowers - 1

I worked on this yesterday. It's half finished. There will be two more sunflower blocks at the bottom with surrounding squares. I have no clue what I'll do with it. It in no way matches the colors in any part of my house. And I'm not sure it's not a little too busy. But it is what it is.

Thanks to you who made comments on the curtain puddles. I've decided I'm not a fan either. I bought some no-sew hem tape. When the other two panels come in, I'll hem them.

And that is all.

Love your sunflower blocks and it will be so cute! If you make enough it could become a donation quilt for Ukrainian refugees or, like you mentioned, a smaller wall quilt to remind you to pray for those folks.

No-sew hem tape sounds marvelous!

Hanging Day

Curtains
Andy gave me a gift card for my birthday in March. I used it to order new sheers for the living room. I got four panels, which I thought would be enough. The two side windows are narrower than the center one. But I find that even they need two panels to look really good. So I'm ordering two more panels.

The photo shows new panels on the left window and the center window. The old ones are still on the right window.

What do you think about the "puddled" look of cartoons on the floor? I haven't quite decided. If I decide that I want them even with he floor I'll have to hem them all. I'll probably use hem tape if I do.

Love the new sheers, but I would hem them as they seem to lack enough body to 'puddle'.. Would Taco roll around in puddled sheers?
Hope it's not as humid there as it is here.

Hugs!

This may actually have something to do with being 75 but I have never liked Curtains that drag on the floor. love your posts

Not a fan of puddling! How do they stay clean and dust free? I'm all for less housework, more better!

A 'no puddle' vote from me, too. They're pretty, but in my house, they'd collect dust and cat hairs. :-) Of course, you might be a better housekeeper than I am... that's a very low bar. LOL! Love the valance, btw.

Family Night

Shirt
Look what Andy brought me yesterday when she came for dinner: a fun autumn/doggie t-shirt. I love it!

Daughter Andy came for dinner last night. We had friend chicken tenders, turnips greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread, and brownies for dessert. We all enjoyed good old home-cooked soul food for a changed. After we ate, Andy washed dishes because I was tuckered out from all the cooking.

My back is better. The new and horrible pain that showed up Monday morning has almost gone. Now it's mostly the regular old low-back, hips, knees, and legs pain that I'm accustomed to.

What a delightful tee shirt!! Lucky you!
Your menu was scrumptious as this Southern girl knows from other meals. Again, lucky you!!
Last week we had black-eyed peas, cornbread, and chicken and it, too, was home cooking at its finest. Yum!
I'm glad you're feeling better. :)

Hugs!

Couch-Ridden--Me and Taco

Blocks - 1

I woke up this morning with more pain than I've had in a long time--maybe ever. Back, feet, legs, everything. After I took my Gabapentin, everything calmed down except my back. It's the kind of pain that every once in a while causes a yelp. I've taken Ibuprofen, used the hemp cream that my sister recommended, and am staying off my feet. But the pain remains. I'd like to soak in a hot bath, but I'm afraid if I didn't kill myself getting into the tub, I'd never be able to get out. And I refuse to have Jesse come and help me out of the tub. So that's where I am. In remarkable pain.

I did get another Ukranian Sunflower block made on Friday or Saturday. I just haven't felt like getting back to the sewing machine since.

So at this time, I'm lying on the couch watching "Ancient Aliens." That kind of stuff fascinates me. I don't know if it's thanks to ancient aliens or simply past human civilizations whose populations and skills, knowledge, and technology have been lost to time. But there's some weird and interesting stuff on our planet that nobody has sufficiently explained. Makes me believe we just don't know everything.

Taco - 1As for Taco, he's doing what Taco does most of the time--chilling.

So sorry you were in such pain yesterday and hope you've felt lots better today. It's good you have such a cozy and loving couch companion!
Love your 2 Ukraine sunflower blocks. How many do you plan to make?
We like Ancient Aliens, too, and you've got to wonder just how some ancient artifacts came to be there waiting to be found.
