Thanksgiving Weekend

Bear Fini - 1

I finished the quilt top this morning. Well, all except for the eyes. I just decided after finishing it that it would have eyes. The others I've made by this pattern have not had eyes, but this bear just seems to call for them. My plan is to embroidery closed eyes, like he's sleeping.

We had a small but great Thanksgiving--me, Jesse, and his mom Andy. We had all the usual dishes: my chicken and dressing, turkey breast, honey baked ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, sweet potato pie, and chocolate cake. We still have a few leftovers.

Andy came back over yesterday, and she and Jesse put up my Christmas tree. Then we had leftovers.

Today I finished the quilt top. Now I'm about to watch one of the most famous Thanksgiving weekend events in this state: the Iron Bowl (Bama vs. Auburn). Of course I'm betting on Bama to win. But one never knows with this game.

OK, the game's about to start. Later, folks.

I agree that this cute bear needs eyes and your idea to embroider them is perfect for a baby or small child. Applause, applause!!

We had a lovely Thanksgiving, too, even though it was just the two of us. DS2 wasn't feeling good so he didn't come.

Come on - ROLL TIDE!

64 Hour Glass Blocks Done

Hour Glasses - 1

I remember when I used to take great care when arranging quilt blocks on my design wall. It was often hard to even tell that they had not been sewn together.

That's not the case anymore. Now I just plop them up there any which way and hope they hold. They don't always. The necessity of limiting time on my feet has made me quite messy.

Oh well, all the hour glass blocks are complete. And I've changed my planned arrangement. Positions of some of the blocks could still change. But basically, this is the design.

So glad that you are still able to quilt. You are speedy too! That bear looks difficult but you did a great job. Does the bear have eyes? My old eyes likely aren’t seeing them on your bear. You are very much the talented Southern Lady!!!

My lupus continues to cause big problems but I am still quilting. You can see a quilt or two that I’ve made on my SandyGail Facebook page. My profile picture is of a large gray dog. Who would think that there are dozens of SandyGails on FB!

Love the layout and it's even better than the first one. Applause, applause!

I know what you mean about limiting time you're on your feet. Me, too. Bummer, isn't it?

Bear Quilt Progress

Bear Quilt - 1

I've spent the last few sewing room sessions making hour-glass blocks to surround the bear. A few more pink blocks for the last round and I'll be ready to start sewing them to the quilt. I'm hoping to have it done by Monday or Tuesday. Lena has my Brown Bag Challenge quilt ready to pick up, and I want to take this one to her. That baby's due date is getting close.

Too cute!! Will the bear's eyes be satin-stitched or appliqued

This baby will be so happy with this quilt for years and years to come!

All Except His Eyes

Beard w-o eyes - 1

I had already shut down the sewing room and come downstairs when I realized I hadn't added the bear's eyes. I didn't want to go back up. The pain is much with me today, and I think I've reached my quilting limit, even though I do most of it sitting.

I got my COVID booster and my flu shot yesterday, so I've marked that off my things-I-need-to-do list. I would blame the pain today on the shots, but i don't think I'd convince anybody, certainly not me. It's not pain that I'm unfamiliar with. So I'm going to lie on the couch with Skipper, a heating pad, and my book for a while.

Happy beautify Autumn Sunday, everyone. At least it's beautiful (but chiilly) here.

More leaves - 1

What a cute bear!! Might you keep a tin of hand-sewing items downstairs as well as upstairs so you can pick up the bear and buttons and bring them downstairs to add the eyes at your leisure? That way, you'd not have to always gather needles, thread, scissors, and thimble as they are both up and down stairs.

Hope you're feeling lots better today and pray that's so.

Bearly Begun

Bear - 1

I've been working on the bear quilt for Stuart's grandbaby today. I would have finished up the bear block except that I sewed a section wrong. Since I had already trimmed the triangles squares, I was not able to take it apart and fix it. And I had used every scrap of that brown fabric in my stash. So I have to go to Walmart and get some more of it before I can finish. It's just as well. My back was telling me it was time to stop.

When the bear block is finished, all that will be left to do is cut a whole bunch of squares (I think they're 5 1/2" cut) and sew it all together. Then I can take it to Lena and beg her to quilt fast. Most of the squares will be pink, with maybe a tan inner frame around the bear block. Or maybe just a darker pink than the rest of the squares.

Sorry for the return to WalMart for more fabric as that's a bother. Cute quilt and your friend, his grandchild (and parents) will love it!
I've has a squirrel come through my sewing room today so have stopped everything to make a fabric Scottie with halo for Rob's aunts whose Scottie, Katie, died last spring. Fortunately, I had the printed panel leftovers so could just hand stitch the halo. It's not perfect, but it's good enough.

Pinwheels, Patches, Etc.

PP - 1Three more blocks and it will be a cuddle quilt flimsy.

This is the quilt I've begun making for my friend Stuart's first grandchild, a little girl due next month. The pattern is called Pinwheels and Patches and can be found online; just google it.

However, two thirds of the way through the quilt top, I've become dissatisfied. My pinwheel points are not matching. I've made pinwheels before with matching points, but I just don't seem to be able to get these to cooperate. They aren't horribly off, but they're off enough to bother me. Also I don't like the yellow that I chose for the yellow pinwheels. It doesn't seem to pop as much as it should.

PP - 1 (1)See how my pinwheel points are a little off?

So I'm changing plans a bit. This quilt will become a cuddle quilt for my guild's children's charity donations; and I'll make another quilt for Stuart's grandbaby. I already have a pattern picked out--one that I've made successfully a couple of times before. It has no pinwheels.

6a00d8341cbb0053ef013488258ffa970c-800wiThis is the quilt I now plan to make for my friend's new grandbaby. I'll use lots of pinks and maybe tans. I made the one in the photo several years ago for another friend's first grandchild, which was a boy.

PP - 1 (2)"One Million Years BC" is back from Lena, all quilted and ready to bind. I think Cait's going to be tickled with it. It will be one of her Christmas presents. Good thing she never reads my blog, huh?

The afternoon has become dark and thundery, so I guess rain is on the way. I think I'll cuddle up with Skipper, a good book, and a cup of tea for a while.

Love the cuddle quilt! When I first made pinwheels for AMIL's office at the daycare she ran, I had to put buttons on the pinwheel centers as they didn't match. No small child was to come in contact with that wall quilt, so the buttons were quite safe.
One million years BC is a winner!! Applause!!
