Too Old for Rock and Roll?
A while back, I got the urge to do something besides quilt making and book reading about the same time I saw this in a Fat Quarter Shop ad. I used to love cross stitch, and I truly loved this Lori Holt design, so I ordered it. As it turns out, though, the cloth, Vintage, to stitch it on is on back order and still has not come in. Actually I’ve searched the internet, and it’s on back order everywhere.
As I understand it, the cloth is sort of a cross between traditional Aida and linen. With the softness of linen and the ease of Aida. I’m afraid I’m going to lose the urge (or the eyesight) to do this project before the cloth comes in.
One of my goals today is to call my optometrist and make an appointment. Long ago, I went almost totally to Kindle books to be able to continue to read. Recently I borrowed a book from my sister Joanne, unavailable on Kindle, that I had been wanting to read. A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr. It’s a classic post-apocolyptic sci-fi novel from 1959. Joanne’s copy is a paperback with very small type. Well, for three days now, with the aid a lots of light and a magnifying glass, I’ve been able to make it through about a dozen pages. I’m going to have to give up. I’ve searched the internet for a large-print edition, but to no avail. I did find an e-book edition, available from Wal-Mart, but to download it I need an app for my iPad that is not available for my iPad. I would have to buy a new iPad to download the app. So I guess I’ll just give up and hope someday it’s available on Kindle--or that my optometrist is able to correct my vision. It hasn’t been a year since I got new glasses with a new prescription.
Seems like most of my body parts are wearing out successively. I’m ready to trade the thing in on a new model.

I don't cross stitch on linen, never have. The eyestrain is too much for me. I use Aida and just realize the size of my project will be bigger. Even then, it is rare that I can use 28 count anymore.
Have you been checked for cataracts and glaucoma? I had rapid growing cataracts when I was 41. I went from seeing perfect with my glasses to almost total blindness in 6 months. A bit scary, that.

I bought a u-shaped light that you wear around your neck. Both ends have a small LED light on them. Made me not make so many mistakes when I was knitting, and I have used it for books, too. Maybe an idea? I'm VERY nearsighted...

Have you checked to see if your library has the book you're reading in hardback? That's larger than print in paperbacks.
The U shaped lighted magnifier Bonnie mentioned sounds worthy.
Hope your optometrist can help, too. I really much preferred it when body parts all did their jobs silently and without pain. As Mae West said, "Getting old isn't for sissies." Amen to that.
Hugs!
