Doggie Progress

Dogggie6One more row to go.

Even though I haven't been blogging much lately, I have done some sewing on my doggie quilt, which I have tentatively decided to title "The Bow-Wow Bunch," as a takeoff of "The Brady Bunch" of 70s tv fame. You might recall that I made a little owl quilt a couple of years ago entitled "The Hooty Bunch," also a reference to "The Brady Bunch."

DoggiebandanaOh, and I also added ties to this doggie's bandana.

 ***

Tropical storm Alberto came blowing through here yesterday. We got lots of rain and some wind. We lost power and internet for most of the day. Then when all the excitement was over and the power was back on, I made a big pot of spaghetti and meat sauce for dinner. Along with a salad and a slice of Texas Toast (Jesse forwent the salad), it was a great ending to a soggy day.

We woke up to more rain this morning. It has subsided for the moment, but I believe more is expected. We're under a flash flood watch. But since the Yellow House is on a bit of a hill, we don't worry much about flooding.

So now I'm going to get started on the third and final row of "The Bow-Wow Bunch."

The Bow-Wow Bunch looks so cute, one and all, and I love the scrappy squares that surround them! One more row to go!!

Love the Hooty Bunch and their facial expressions with their eyes looking hither and thither!

How marvelous that you have the energy to accomplish all of this sewing!

Glad Alberto wasn't any worse to you than it was. We live on a hill, too, so flooding isn't a worry here either.

Hugs!

Love the name of the quilt! Glad you survived Alberto. We are to get some of the rain through tomorrow. I just hunker down and read!

My Lilies

Lily2

In spite of the fact that my back hasn’t let me do any gardening or yard work in a couple of years, my lilies that I planted six or seven years ago seem to be thriving. They’re surrounded by monkey grass that needs pulling, and they never get fertilizer and only what watering the rains bring. My yard man is reluctant to do much in my yard except cut the grass and prune a few shrubs when I nag him into it. So any flowers that are left blooming, like these lilies, get sole credit for their survival.

This has been a good day--not a whole lot of pain and fatigue. My sister Ramey and I went to a special Pentecost service at our church this morning. Afterwards, we went to Cracker Barrel for some comforting comfort food. I spent the afternoon finishing up a mystery thriller I’ve been reading, The Darkest Secret by Alex Marwood. I just finished it a few minutes ago and realized I haven’t updated my reading list (left sidebar) in a while. I think it’s missing two or three books. I’ll get to that tomorrow. I think my eyes are done in for tonight. I can barely see the text on the screen as I type this. I have what my ophthalmologist says is dry eye syndrome, for which I use Restasis drops. But even so, by nighttime, my vision is usually too blurry for reading, writing, or any kind of close work.

So I’ll just turn on the tv an see if I can find anything with sound that I don’t have to see too clearly. Night-night, friends.

Oh, how I sympathize with you. Because of arthritis and fibro, I can no longer garden or do so many other things. I also have dry eye, which is maddening! We are lucky to have so many things we still enjoy and the determination to keep our spirits up. A normal day is a great day!

Lovely lilies!!! Don't you love flowers that reseed themselves or grow every year because they are perennials?!

Hope you have a wonderful week ahead and have spoons aplenty to let you do all you want to do.

Hugs!

Cleaning Day Doggie

 dogwed2

This is what I was able to get done today before Skipper started pestering me to go downstairs--fourth doggie with five more to go. I would have time to do another before Anna gets finished cleaning downstairs, but I don't know that I can put up with the pawing and the barking and the staring long enough to sash enough doggie.

I think I'm going to add some ties to the back of this doggie's bandana. So maybe I can get that done before Skipper goes completely off the rails.

Dog 1 in row 2! How cute is he/she? Think your idea for bandanna ties is perfect!

Oh, what ideas for the next quilt(s) are you imagining?

Dog Row One Done

Dog1
I grabbed a little time in the sewing room this morning, much to Skipper's chagrin. He is even now pestering the daylights out of me to let's go downstairs. I don't know why on earth he doesn't like us to be in the sewing room, but he doesn't. So I guess the stitching is done for today, unless I want to get my skin pawed off by Little Big Dog.

But I did get Row One of the doggie quilt put together. Two more rows to go. I already have some great ideas for my next quilt/s. Too many ideas probably to get done in this lifetime, much less in this year.

Okay, Skipper. I'm coming. Jeez-a-loo! Bye till later.

When Push Comes to Total Exhaustion

32413675_2030454733648455_3476653963141447680_nBelated Happy Mother’s Day to my Mama in Heaven. She left us in 2005.

Last week was a busy busy week. Quilting bee, book club, shopping, day trips, and one particularly painful dentist appointment. I pushed myself to do it all, and I paid. By Saturday, I knew I was in trouble. Could hardly walk for the pain and fatigue. In fact, my back was in such pain that I resorted to taking a Flexeril, something I do only in pain emergencies. I hate those things.

So Sunday, not only was I exhausted and in pain, but now I had a Flexeril hangover. I totally wimped out for Mother’s Day. Didn’t go to church, didn’t have lunch with family. Jesse and I ordered in and I spent the entire day on the couch, reading and watching tv.

So I’m feeling some better today--well enough, in fact, to get back to pushing. I’m doing laundry and hope to get into the sewing room for just a little while in a bit.

Don't do so much in a week! I'm to talk, as I do the same thing, then pay the price!
Even though you did not go out for lunch, I hope you had a nice, relaxing Mother's Day.

Your Mama was so pretty as are her daughters!

So sorry you wore yourself out by doing all of those things last week. Hope they were enjoyable outings for the most part (not that dental appt. of course) and were worth using your spoons for.

Wishing you a much better week this week with enough spoons to sew a bit and to do whatever else you want to do, too.

Hugs!

Bountiful Show & Tell

Thumbnail-1

Bee at Sally’s house yesterday was great fun. That’s Sally in the photo above, holding the project she is currently working on. Aren't her hand appliquéd circles just perfect?

We enjoyed an abundance of show and tell. I had planned to take my “Star-Spangled Summer” quilt, which I finished binding just in time. But I left the house without the quilt and didn’t think of it until I was halfway to Sally’s. Ah the mind, how I miss it.

Today I have a dentist appointment to start on a getting a new crown on a bottom tooth. A couple of week ago at my checkup, Dr. S found a small cavity where the tooth and gum meet. He said in order to do the job right, he’d have to not only fill the cavity but also take off the old crown and replace it. Otherwise he said some of the cavity could be missed. I haven’t had a cavity in decades. I don’t look forward to the drilling.

Below are photos of the rest of our show and tell from yesterday. Thanks to Cyndi W. for her excellent photography skills and her generosity in sharing. Doris gets the prize (if there was one) for the most projects shown this month, so I’ll start with her.

Wow! That’s a lot of work, Doris. She does her own quilting too with her long-arm machine. All those quilts are going to charity.

Below ar some of Sally’s finished quilts that she brought out for us to enjoy.

Martha brought this sweet little cuddle quilt (above). Love the fabrics!

Cyndi’s pen pal in Japan sent her this pretty handbag.

And, in return, Cyndi made this one for her Japanese pen pal.

Now off I go to the dentist’s chair!

Love the show and tell quilts! One and all are just wonderful and deserve applause!

Poor you. I don't like going to the dentist at all. Not one little bit. When I was 4 years old I bit my first dentist because he put his hands in my mouth!

Hugs!

Joining Doggies

Two Dogs

So far today, I've made this much progress on the dog quilt, two blocks joined. I'll probably start sashing the third doggie, since Anna is still cleaning down stairs and I must stay out of the way. Or maybe I'll start on the table topper I have planned for a little table I have in my living room. Or I might even start on the new full-size quilt I have planned for my bed. The one I use now is getting a little love worn, mostly from furbies sleeping on it.

So I go now to decide which one of these projects I'll work on for the rest of my every-other-wednesday sewing-room time. (Every other Wednesday is when Anna comes to clean, and on those days, I can pretty much count on time in the sewing room.)

Your two blocks and the pieced sashing are looking good! What will you name this quilt?

I'm making a small table runner with blues, green, and yellows for the Single Irish Chain pattern and the blocks will finish at 4.5" so it won't be too wide.

Hope your area isn't the 90*F we have today thru Friday.

Hugs!
