Dog Du Jour

Dogg
When finished, all these doggies will have eyes and noses. Some will have collars. But I decided to get all the piecing done before I applique.

The workmen arrived bright and early this morning to continue laying my beautiful new wood floor. I've got my fingers crossed that they'll finish up their work today and I can get to work putting my house back together. The disorder and chaos is wearing on me. Got only a couple hours sleep last night because I couldn't stop thinking about the disaster that my house has been turned into.

But I think I'm going to love living carpet free--at least in the downstairs. Eventually I hope to get the upstairs done too. But first I'll have to get over the expense and chaos of doing the downstairs.

Back to sewing doggie blocks.

Isn't this sweet dog a cutie? Wonder what or who he's listening to?

I join in your hope that the workmen finished today.

Hugs!

Congratulations on your new flooring! Went through similar ordeal about 5 years ago, replacing old carpet. So worth it. Love hard floors! Your doggie blocks are the cutest. Can’t wait to see both-floor & quilt.

One Dog Sewn, One Dog Gone (But Back)

Dog

The chaos is no longer controlled. The workmen have been here all day laying my new wood floor, and my house is a total wreck. We're all holed up on the second floor, trying to stay out of the way. Although I had a pet gate up across the top of the stairs, Skipper got it down and escaped out the open front door and was well on his way to fun and adventure when I discovered he was gone. The workmen helped me chase him down. And now we're ensconced in the sewing room with the door closed. Taco and Bella are in here with us, two very nervous kitty cats who can't figure out what's going on in their domicile.

During periods between chasing Skipper and rounding up kitties, I've been able to get one doggie block sewn (above) and another cut out, the first sewing I've done in a week or more. So now I'm going back to the sewing machine to get a few more seams sewn.

I'll be posting photos of the new floor probably early next week, when all the work is done and the rooms are put back in order.

What fun (not?!) with the chaos and the escapee. It will all be fine soon. Hang in there!

Love "spot" and I look forward to seeing the facial expressions you'll add.

Controlled Chaos

CONTROLLED CHAOS - Arrows by SRBichara - Stock.Xchng PhotosThe red arrow is me.

Well, I see another week has gone by with no blogging and no sewing. But it’s not like I haven’t been busy. It’s just that I’ve been busy doing stuff that’s no fun and making an absolute wreck of my house.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered new wood flooring for my living room, dining room, and master bedroom to replace some old and pet-worn carpeting. The workmen are coming in the morning to start laying the floor. And although they’ll be moving furniture and heavy stuff, I have to make sure all the breakables are out of the way. That means emptying the china cabinets and removing tabletop stuff. And I supposed emptying two floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in my bedroom.

And that really should not have been a big deal with Jesse here to help, but somehow it has turned into one. Still not finished. So I have to get myself in gear and get the rest of the breakables somewhere safe and prepare for a couple of days of even greater chaos.

Then there will be the job of putting everything back in place. But maybe by the end of this week or early next week, I can have my old life back and be able to spend a little time in the sewing room--when I’m not sitting here admiring my new wood floors.

I need to do this as well. It is such a mess to do tho.

Wishing you well as the chaos moves through the rooms in your lovely home. Just keep telling yourself it will be worth it!

We've had nearly 48 hours of rain so must be nearly ready to slide toward North Carolina as it is due south of us and downhill globally speaking.

I've sewn hardly any this month either. Hope both of us find energy enough for all there is we want to do and need to do.

Big hugs!

I Think This 21st Century Thing Has Gone Too Far

Shutterstock_135487682-2.jpe

I love many things about this day and age: clothes that don’t need ironing, TVs whose pictures don’t roll, air conditioning, feminine hygiene products, telephones that travel with you, food delivery services. There is so much good about the times we live in.

But I fear we’ve taken it a bit too far--at least as far as technology is concerned.

58bec9d61900003600bd7382(And maybe fashion....)

When everything requires a password, and every password has to be based on a different set of parameters, things have gone too far. When one cannot go into her doctor’s office or even to a Mickey D’s and be serviced by human being but rather asked to sign in or place on order at a computerized kiosk, things have gone too far. When one can not pick up her phone and speak to the person who has the answer to her question, but rather must go through a bunch of button pushing or mouse clicks in answer to questions she barely understands, if at all, things have gone too far.

I spent almost this entire day figuring out, though a series of mouse clicks and phone calls that went nowhere, when I could pick up my computer and why my insurance claim for a pain block epidural had been turned down. I finally got the answer to both questions, but it was not without much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

My MacBook computer is back home having been cleansed of all its bad adware that had snuck in during the past couple of years and caused much frustration and saying of bad words on my part. And I know now that my insurance company refuses to cover my epidural because I haven’t gone through some painful physical therapy torture for the past couple of years. The insurance company says that indicates that I don’t really have any pain. My doctor is on the case, however, and is going to talk to the insurer and see if he can talk sense into them.

I don’t much care any more. If I could just lie here on the couch and not have to move and cause more of that pain that the insurance company says doesn’t exist, I think I would be fairly happy. I’m so sick of having to deal with crap like this through pain so thick I could cut it with a knife.

Actually, that’s not true. I would appreciate just one day a week in which I could work on a quilt, or do some needed work in my house, or walk Skipper around the block without fighting the pain. But if that’s too much to ask, just let me lie here on the couch and vegetate. Maybe I don’t like the 21st Century so much after all.

Sag-pantsDo you think if I tried harder to adhere to the fashion trends of the day, as these young fellows are doing, I could get more in step with the times and know which buttons to push, what passwords were required, or where to click my mousey?

AMEN, sister! So sorry for your many frustrations in addition to the horrid pain you're enduring (may the Force be with your doctor as he/she battles the dark force of insurance greed).

Don't you hope those fellows in the last photo had a dog to chase them for a bit (not bite!) as I bet they cannot run!

May you have many days ahead when you can do all you wish to do in comfort and with joy.

Big hugs!

Understand all your types of pain. Pjs all day sometimes helps; maybe the saggy pants is our answer. Prayers for relief for you & solving the medical issues.

Years ago my daughter and I were waiting at a light at a large intersection (3 lanes plus turn-lane on all 4 sides) when 3 teen boys started to cross the road. Not quite half way across, one of the boys pants fell down. The rest of them continued to cross the road, while he struggled to pull his pants back up. As we were laughing, my daughter says, "he goes to my school". This was about 20 years ago, and I had hoped the fad would go away. From what I hear, law enforcement thinks it is great as the droopy pants guys can't run.

So sorry this bout of pain is lingering, hope your doctor is successful with the insurance company battle.

Double Dog

DoubleDog
While Anna did some much needed house cleaning, I worked in the sewing room and got one more dog block cut out and sewn--the mirror image of the first block.

I wish I had made the black dog’s nose brown so it would show up better. I’m thinking of taking that nose piece out and replacing it with a brown one. I believe I will do that.

What a good idea to replace the black dog's nose - or perhaps you could do a satin stitch with embroidery floss or sew the brown nose over the black by machine?

I'm so glad you're enjoying this charming project!

Frosty and Friends

SM1

If you've been watching the news or live in the Southeast, you probably know that we in Alabama have been going through another weather event this week. Although it turned into more of a non-event in my neck of the woods, parts of Alabama, even some places near me, got quite a dusting of the white stuff. When I awoke this morning, the roofs in the neighborhood had some sprinkles, but nothing like what we got in early December.

I was a little disappointed. You know how I love snow. But I could have done without the single-digit temps altogether. And Skipper says he could too. What if your bathroom registered a temperature of 10 degrees at midmorning?

Anna bundled up against the weather and came to clean today. It has been several weeks since we've been able to synchronize our schedules to give her a day of cleaning here, and The Yellow House is really needing her attention.

So Skipper and I are going to spend the rest of the day here in the sewing room making another doggie quilt block, while Anna makes our living quarters more liveable.

Stay warm everyone.

Every time the weather person says 'snow in the south' I picture you on your front porch, with camera in hand, and trees covered in the white stuff. But, even without snow, single-digit temps are COLD! Glad you are feeling well enough to sew and have a good buddy like Skipper to keep you company.

We awoke to about 4" of snow today and it continued to snow for most of the day, so now we have about 5". Tomorrow's''s high will be in the low 40s*F so all will be mush then.

It's day 2 of fever and aching for me but there are no other symptoms so I wonder what's up?

A Doggone New Quilt

While looking for something in the sewing room yesterday, I came across this pattern packed in a plastic bin with fabrics for the quilt. I can’t remember how many years ago I bought this pattern and those fabrics and planned to make this fun quilt. Well, the time has come. This is the quilt I’m working gone now.

Dog 2

Dog

I got the first block pieced. All I have to do is add the appliqued eye and collar, and Block One will be finished.

Dog3

Based on my experience with the first block, these are very fun blocks to make. I love the detailed instructions for cutting and piecing. My first block turned out almost perfect. Can’t wait to start on Block Two.

Let It Snow!

6a00d8341cbb0053ef01b8d24f9ae7970c-800wi

I finally got my snowman quilt, “Slumber Party,” hung in the foyer to celebrate Old Man Winter. I love this quilt. It was so much fun to make, and it makes me smile when I look at it.

Now let’s have some snow. If it’s going to be this cold, at least we should get some pretty white stuff.

I love this quilt, too, and am glad it is on display for the winter season.

We had about 3" of snow last week and it stayed so cold that it didn't start thawing until today.

Goals

2428_1_Here-Comes-Santa-Mug-RugThis is the first mug rug pattern I have downloaded from Stitches of Love. It’s my fave, but there are many more.

Images I love the Rudolph rug too. I think he’ll be next.

D61620ef655b88c6298db4aa3d233c91--mug-rug-patterns-quilt-patternsAnd isn’t this little Christmas tree fun?

I don’t do resolutions. But I do set goals, not just at the New Year, but often all year long. Well, this year, I’m setting a goal for the whole year.

I like to do quilt challenges and quilt-alongs and such. But I feel i have so many projects already started and so many on the to-do list, that it would not be advisable to join a quilt-along right now. So I’m organizing my own personal one-woman quilt-along. If anyone wants to join me, you’re more than welcome.

I saw these cute little mug rugs on Julie and Brittany’s Stitches of Love website. I decided that I would make at least one of these a month and give them next Christmas as little friendship gifts.Note: I seem to have the link to Stitches of Love working now. At least it works on this computer. but if it doesn’t work for you, just cut and paste https://stitchesoflovequilting.com. It’s a great website.

Actually, Julie and Brittany have so many sweet projects on their website/blog that I’m not sure I’ll be stopping with the mug rugs. There are lots of their projects I’d love to make.

I hope everyone is staying warm during this crazy January. Everything about me is toasty except my feet. Can’t seem to get those suckers warm.

Beautiful work! Your choice of background made these designs really pop. Think I'll check out that website. I'm glad you are well and staying warm. Weather is really crazy, in one direction or another. Flu has hit hard here. Sanctuary was nearly empty this morning; I suppose many are sick or staying home to avoid the possibility of picking up flu bugs?

Love these patterns and that great website! Worthy goals, indeed! Love the fabrics, too.

Check our the Footsmart catalog for wonderful wool socks that are cosy, machine washable, and that don't squeeze your calves too much. :)
