Sisters Day Out

My sister Ramey

My sister Ramey agreed to attend guild meeting with me today to hear a presentation by one of our favorite writers, Irene Latham, author of Leaving Gees Bend. If you haven't read this book, you should, especially if youlove southern literature and quilts. The story will grab hold of your heart strings, I promise. Click on the following link to learn more about the book. http://www.amazon.com/Leaving-Gees-Bend-Irene-Latham/dp/0399251790/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1444691629&sr=8-1&keywords=leaving+gees+bend

After the meeting, we had a great lunch at the Irondale Cafe, located in Irondale, Alabama, between Birmingham and my hometown of Leeds. You might think you have never heard of this eatery, but I bet you have. It was made famous by Fanny Flagg in her book Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe and the subsequent movie. The Irondale Cafe was the inspiration for The Whistlestop. We did indeed have some fried green tomatoes, which we usually do when we go there--or sometimes their scrumptious Green Tomatoes Parmesan, which they weren't serving today.

If you're ever in the Birmingham area, we recommend this place for wonderful (and filling) country cooking.

Tomorrow I'll post some photos that I took at the guild meeting.

What a great day you two had! It was nice to see Ramey and nice that she could go to guild with you.

I'd love to eat at the Irondale Cafe someday, but would choose a different menu item as (shhh! Don't tell) I don't care for fried green tomatoes.

Hugs!
