Mama's UFOs

MUFO1

My mama was a master needlewoman. She could do it all: quilting, embroidery, knitting, crochet, tatting, smocking, cross-stitch. When my sisters and I were little, she made us the prettiest dresses. She even made my wedding gown for my first wedding.

Mama passed away in 2005, and, like all of us, she had lots of unfinished projects when she left us. We even have quilt tops of hers that we need to get together and quilt.

One of Mama's greatest talents was her cross-stitch. She could even stitch on high thread-count linen--which, even before my eyes started going, I could not manage.

Above and below are a few of Mama's cross-stitch pieces that I plan to have framed someday. Her UFOs have become my UFOs.

Now, I'm linking to Beverly's Pink Saturday Party. And then, I'm getting up and getting to work on everything I have to do for guild meeting on Monday. Be sure to check back here tomorrow or some time before Friday to sign up for my giveaway.

I have a Lord's Prayer sampler, and some birds and tulips that she cross-stitched. We need to get all these things finished and framed. I like the flowers in the blue pitcher best of all.

What beautiful cross stitch pieces! I hope it's not long until you begin having them framed. The flowers in the blue pitcher is my favorite, too. What a treasure each piece is!

Your photos make me want to work on a bit of cross stitch I'd barely started when I was bitten by the quilting bug.

Hugs!

Susan, these are stunning. I love cross stitch and any hand work so much. Your mom's work is lovely. My mom made a crazy quilt out of polester and hand embroidered all the edges with every stitch imaginable. I am not a fan of polester for a quilt but this one is gorgeous. Sadly the top was finished but never put together as a quilt. You sure made me think of this and it is in my sister's attic. I am going to get it and post about it. I should finish it even though the fabric is passe'

Happy Sunday,
xoxoxo, Jeanne

Not only was your mama a true beauty (I've thought THAT since the first time I saw a photo of her) but she was a TALENTED beauty! High count linen? EEEEEKS! I thought I was awesome because I USED to do counted cross stitch on 24 count Aida cloth. Ha! I'm SO bowing to your mama! LOVE those darling bunnies! You have treasures there, my friend!

Wonderful cross stitch UFOs. Before my Mom passed away, I gathered up all of her cross stitch and embroideries, had them professionally re-framed ($$$), then distributed them among her grand-daughters. Included label and photos of Mom, attempting to use photos from the date of each work, i.e., 20's, 30's, 40's etc. Her work was beautiful; I often wonder what she would have produced if the quilting rebirth had happened 30 years earlier. I wish there were a book about the early cross stitch patterns/kits, say from the twenties and thirties. Enjoy your UFOs! Thanks for sharing.

Oh, Susan. These are such treasures. My grandmother was the same. She could do anything.

Happy Pink Saturday.
