Beautiful presents from Andy: my favorite Yankee Candle, "Home Sweet Home," and a pretty rooster-covered basket to hold sewing or knitting--
or pies!! Oh yeah, pies!
My old high-school friend, Bonnie in Virginia, woke me up this morning with her annual Happy Birthday call to me. I was sort of alarmed that someone was calling at 6:45 in the morning. But after I found out who it was, I realized I had failed to set my clock ahead last night--and also that Bonnie is on the East Coast, so it was actually almost 9:00 to her. But to me, it was barely daylight.
I know lots of you love this so-called daylight savings time. But I'm like the old Indian who says, "Only the government can think that you can cut a foot off the top of a blanket and sew it onto the bottom and have a longer blanket." We are NOT saving daylight, people. We have exactly the same amount of daylight. And I wouldn't mind DLST so much if they'd leave it that way. It's the jumping back and forth that annoys me. And I read this morning that more heart attacks happen on Spring Forward Day than any other. And it's my birthday! Nobody should be able to steal an hour from my birthday. Especially with all I have to do today.
Another DLST story, and then I'll get on with it. When I first began working at Progressive Farmer magazine, way back in the late 70s, one of our editors showed me a letter he had received from an irate reader. In the envelope with her letter was a photo of some dried up, parched tomato plants.
"Take a look," the reader wrote, "at what your stupid daylight savings time has done to my tomatoes. They just can't take that extra hour of sunlight."
I don't know what amazed us most--that she believed DLST meant an extra hour of sun or that she believed Progressive Farmer was responsible for the time change.
I promised a giveaway, and here it is--a pretty little Easter Basket filled with ten spring-themed fat quarters. All you have to do for a chance to win is: 1) leave a comment on my blog starting today and going through Friday and 2) in your comment, mention the giveaway. Something like, "Please enter me in your giveaway," will work. This is so that anybody who isn't interested in receiving fabric won't be included. You must also include an email address or blog link so that I can get in touch with you if you win.
Happy Sunday, everyone. And Happy Spring Forward Day, and Happy My Birthday.

Happy Birthday! I hope it is warm and sunny for you today! I think spring has actually sprung here, I even put away all coats, gloves, hats, etc. that are winter. I'll just be in denial if it gets cold again! I love that basket your daughter gave you. Great size for knitting projects! The fat quarters are so springy! Love them! I would be very happy if you entered me in your contest.
Happy, Happy Birthday again!
Hugs and love,
Deb

Happy Happy birthday Susan-
I loved your tomato story about DLST- I find the spring one always messes with my body clock.
What a lovely basket of fabrics that you are giving away. I have never collected Easter fabrics but I have been thinking about spring as the sun shines through my window this morning. I am going to take down the winter things and put up the spring/ Easter things on the Mantle. Thanks for the chance to win your pretty fabrics.
Warmest regards,
Anna

Well Susan, I'm with you on the DST except that I don't want them to leave it that way...I want it to go back to Standard time and leave it THAT way. My body has never ever adjusted to the earlier time change and now with my Scleroderma making my mornings the biggest trial of my day, I really hate DST, LOL. Ah well...I would love to be entered in your giveaway for that gorgeous Spring fabric. Thanks so much for the chance. Hugs...

I recently learned that Daylight Saving Time started during WW2 to help with the war effort. It helped to save energy resources as well as aiding in the farmer's daylight hours! I don't mind the time changes quite so much now that I understand why it happened. What I would like to know is why was it not returned to normal when the war was over!!!
Please enter me in your lovely giveaway!
And Happy Birthday, despite the time change!!!

Love your quote. I wonder if that would work for me....if I cut one end off my too-short batting and sew it on the other end, would I then have the longer length that I need??? rofl
Birthday Blessings to you! Hope it's a great year for you.
Thank you for the generous offer of that sweet basket. Please add my name to the giveaway. lindahancock@charter.net
