Inside the Sad Cafe

Paige
Maybe the time has drawn the faces I recall,
But things in this life change very slowly,
If they ever change at all
There's no use in asking why,
It just turned out that way
So meet me at midnight
Beside the Sad Cafe.
--"Sad Cafe" by The Eagles

Paige Parnell is the real winner, and we know that. But we're still sad. Less than 200 votes decided the outcome of this election. To us, last night, as we gathered, dispirited and heartbroken, this was just another indication that it's a losing battle, that the only way to win an election is to run a dirty, dishonest campaign. No matter how qualified you are, or how unqualified your opponent, you're fighting a losing battle unless you get down in the mud and splash around like pigs.

This is as close as I've ever come to observing up close and personal how the political process works, at least in Alabama. I don't like it.

But I am so very proud of my beautiful cousin for standing firm in her integrity. To her, and to all of us, a win is not a win if you come out with mud and filth dripping from you. Our time will come, Cuz. "Things in this life change very slowly," but they do change. They do.

I Googled your cousin this morning to find the results of yesterday's election. I was sorry to read she had come so close to winning. You're right; change is slow to come.

I also had searched so learned of Paige's narrow defeat but there is always next time. It is sad when so many voters don't vote and so many that do vote blindly.

Applause to Paige for being the best candidate for the job, for caring more about people than about party, and for her integrity in running a positive campaign. Well done!

Hugs all around!

I thought of you last night when I heard she lost by about 200 votes. She is a gorgeous lady and you are!
Hugs,
Donna
