I wasn't going to say anything about this until I saw whether or not I was going to be able to stick with it. But I think it's going to work.
I have been needing to lose some weight for quite a while. Well my scales hit tilt a couple of weeks ago, and I knew the time had come to quit pussy-footin' around (as George Wallace used to say). I knew, because I had been trying, that the measuring and reading labels and trying to figure out what I should eat and shouldn't wasn't working. So I decided to join Nutrasystem for a month and see what happens.
I've been on the system for only a few days, almost a week, and already I've lost 7 pounds. And it isn't difficult. The first couple of days, I was in a carb crash, I guess. I was so weak and tired I could hardly move. But that has gone now, and I'm finding that I don't get hungry, my carb cravings (which were very severe) have almost gone, and this morning I just couldn't eat all the breakfast I was supposed to eat. So I set aside the fruit to eat later.
I have a long way to go, but I'm very encouraged that I'm not climbing the walls with ice-cream cravings and that I do seem to be dropping the pounds. So, onward.
Michael's funeral was just about the last straw. As most of you know, I've gone to many funerals of friends this year, but this was the worst. We had just said goodbye to Michael's dad five months ago. And Mike was so young, just 36, and such a funny, friendly person. And when they played Vince Gill's "Go Rest High Upon That Mountain," which I played at Vann's funeral and always think of now as Vann's song, the dam broke. As soon as the funeral director dismissed us, I practically ran to my car and left. I didn't go to Maria's afterward, as everyone was invited to do and I was planning to do.
I decided I was going to take my pitiful, grieving self to bed for the rest of the afternoon.
But God sometimes has better plans for us. Andy called and wanted me to meet with her mortgage rep with her. I confess I didn't want to, but I'm so glad I did. He had awesome news for Andy. She qualifies for a government grant program that brought the cost of financing her house way way down. We were both floating in air when we left his office. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers. See what you've done!
There's really no reason for the image below except that I had to make my blog entry title even out.

Glad to hear the good news about the affordable mortgage! As a former real estate broker, my ears perk up still at such things;) Susan, what is the grant called and is it available everywhere?

This is the good, the bad, and that is really the ugly - kinda scary actually.
Good for you about the diet - and good about Andy's house. That must be so exciting for both of you.
I can only imagine how hard Michael's funeral must have been for you. It is so interesting how our feelings are associated with different things. My father has been dead 25 years, and I still cannot listen to or watch the father/daughter dance at a wedding. I have to get up and leave.

I am so happy that things are working out for Andy's house. She must be over the moon excited. Also happy to hear your diet is going well so far. My hubby and I switched to a heart healthy lifestyle, not just diet...lifestyle and the first 6 weeks was AWFUL!!! Worse for him that me because have to be reminded to eat, cause usually I just don't get hungry. Still, cutting out all white bread, white potatoes, rice and snacks (except fresh fruits and veggies) was a tough one. The exercise regimen is a hard one for me with my Scleroderma but it at least keeps my joints flexible enough that I can function enough to do most of what I want. BUT, it got easier, and easier. The one thing we discovered very quickly is that it is much more expensive to eat healthy!!!
Okay, before I go, I have to ask cause I certainly don't know...what is that poor little pink thing??? I mean, should somebody cover it with a quilt? She has to be cold!!! Hugs...

Good for you on your diet.
I'm sure you have answered this question earlier, but did you use a template on your Autumn Pinwheels? It is a beautiful quilt and I have scraps and more scraps I'm trying to us up.

So sorry you had a rough day with Michael's funeral. Your feelings are certainly understandable but hard to go through.
The news about Andy's house must have your brain whirring with decorating ideas!
And, I'm not even going to ask about whatever the heck that rodent might be!!! accckkkkk!!!

Big hugs to your sweet heart after the renewed sorrow surrounding the loss of Michael.
I'm proud of your determination to lose weight! Do you have the food delivered to your home and if so, is it tasty? I need to lose weight as I gained 3lb while sitting by windows so I had light to read by while the power was out. Bummer!
Happy dancing for Andy and the good news about her Little Yellow House! When can we see more photos??
As for the last photo ... shudder!
Hugs!

what in tarnation is THAT???? Oh my word. I don't think I've ever seen anything that ugly. So happy about Andy's loan and her getting the house. I'm praying that with the new diet the fibro monster will be forced to stay in a closet somewhere! You hang in there girl. P. S. Can you smell Fall in the air at your house? I can and I love it.

Congratulations to Andy - especially for the grant.
And congratulations to you on the weight loss - I really should follow your stellar example - I need to loose about 15 lbs.
As for the ugly "thing" it just makes me shudder - I certainly would not wish to encounter it at any time.

SOMETIMES IT IS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY THINGS HAPPEN AT ONE TIME. IT WILL NOT BE EASY TO DIET. I HAVE BEEN BLESSED, AND NEVER HAD THAT TO DEAL WITH. I CAN RELATE TO GRIEF. TIME HEALS AND MAKES THE PAIN EASIER TO BEAR. GLAD YOU HAD SOME GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE MORTGAGE. HANG IN, IT WILL GET BETTER.

Wow! Your title is the same as mine. Did we plan that?
Your ugly was a lot uglier than mine though. Thanks!

That, my dear, is a naked mole rat. How would I know, you ask? Well, when Laura was younger, she watched a cartoon call "Kim Possible". One of the characters had a naked mole rat as a pet. I will say they are much cuter when they are animated!
Hugs....

That is about the ugliest thing I have ever seen!!!
I am sorry about your loss. I dread hearing of someone dying. As I get older I loose more friends and it makes me so sad. My thoughts are with you.
It is 5 am and I am getting ready to make peach cobbler. Figure that one out. It is just too hot during the day. 108 yesterday and predicted 105 today.
Hugs...Sharon/Ks

Susan, congrats on the weight loss. It's so hard, isn't it? I've been dieting too. Keep up the great work. Sorry about the funeral. I know that had to be difficult. But I'm happy to hear the day ended on such a positive note.

Deb, My 5 year-old grandson watches Kim Possible, and I agree; the animated mole rat is not as eeeky as this one on Susan's blog!
