Here it is, "Autumn Pinwheels," complete with unnecessarily mitered borders and all. When the backing fabric arrives, I'll be ready to send this one out for quilting. Might even get it back in time for Halloween.
I started taking the quilting out of the "Sister's Choice Table Runner." I started machine quilting it last year and made a right terrible mess of it. When I ever get the stitches out, I think I'll either hand quilt it or let someone a lot more accomplished at machine quilting than me quilt it. And I'm not even sure it's still a table runner. I might use it for a wall hanging somewhere.
We made our trip to Dr. Rachel's clinic yesterday for Skipper's and Sophie's annual checkups. It was quite an ordeal--two dogs on leashes, one (Sophie) having a full-blown panic attack, and the other (Skipper) just wanting to check out all the office kitties.
Dr. Rachel pronounced them both fair and fit. Skipper had gained a couple of pounds. But that's ok. He can no longer get through neighbor John's cat door to John's garage, which helps considerably. Sophie had not gained an ounce, had maybe even lost a couple of ounces. Skipper did like last year and complained when he got his shots. Sophie never even realized she got a shot, I think. She was too busy hyperventilating.
Poor Soph. She gets so upset when we go to the vet. It's not because she doesn't like Dr. Rachel and the others, I know. I think the place reminds her of her battle for life four years ago and all the things she had to go through. That year, she had hemolytic anemia and almost died. In fact, the doctors think it's a miracle she came through. For a couple of weeks, she spent her days at Dr. Rachel's clinic and her nights at the emergency animal clinic in Vestavia. Those were very dark days for me and Vann. We were so afraid of losing our girl. I remember what a happy day it was when Dr. R. told us that Sophie could go home for the night.
On our way home yesterday, we stopped by Arby's for a roast beef sandwich. I shared a couple of bites with the doggies and told them they had been good, even though they hadn't. I felt like they had been as good as their fears and uncertainties would let them. I think next time, I'm going to take friend Blogless Barbara's advice and get a crate to carry Skipper in.
Ramey called me later in the evening to tell me that our last surviving aunt, Iris S., had passed away. She was Mama's sister-in-law. It feels sort of strange and empty to have no aunts or uncles or parents or grandparents living. I guess this is what it's like to be the senior generation.
Now all you UFO Busters, go down to Mr. Linky and add your links so we call all see what you've been doing this week.

Autumn Pinwheels puts me in the mood for cooler weather and the colors of the changing leaves. It looks great!
Glad you and the dogs survived the annual Vet. trip! I made that trip last weekend with our kitty and my 9 year old son, the kitty's "owner." He was worse than the cat! He doesn't like shots and despite explaining to him what could happen to a cat that doesn't get vaccinated, he still had trouble with the shot part. I think the cat might have done better if we had left the boy at home, but I want him to take part in her care. Hopefully next year will be better.

It was a 3 ring circus taking Elmo and Jake to the vet last week. I left Elmo tied to the bench inside while I tried to get Jake out of the car. He would not budge. When I went in to get help, Elmo had broken his leash in half. This was in a span of less than 5 minutes. The vet tech got Jake out of the car and then everyone calmed down. Jake, unfortunately, needs to lose 8 pounds. Luckily, this is an annual affair!

LOVE the Autumn Pinwheel quilt! Applause, applause!!
There are such delightful autumn quilting patterns available with leaves, pumpkins, all things Halloween, cornucopias, and more so have fun choosing which to use on this quilt. You might also consider an autumn color thread. I had my OP Halloween wall hanging and it's fraternal twin (a few different fabrics) quilted with orange thread and that was perfect for those little quilts.
Just out of curiosity, my Pinwheel blocks are make using 4 HSTs, so wonder the origin of this different block also called Pinwheels. Any idea?
Glad you, Sophie, and Skipper all survived the vet visit. Another possible solution for next year is to either take a friend with you or make the dogs' appointments on different days. Food for thought.
My condolences on the loss of your sweet aunt. My mother was the last of her generation, so I know what you mean about it being strange to be the oldest.
Happy Friday! Hope your weekend is wonderful!
Hugs!
