An old friend of mine, artist and quilter Carol Newbill, once said, "God gives you a limited number of miters; use them wisely." I think I just used my last four.
I had my Autumn Pinwheels quilt blocks all put together yesterday when I remembered a wonderful piece of reproduction vintage Halloween fabric in my stash. I decided to use it for borders--and for some reason unknown at this time to me, I decided to miter those borders.
I know how to miter and I did fine. Didn't have to redo any of the corners. But the process still wore me out. Mitering is a nerve-wracking activity to me, making sure that 45-degree angle is just right. I put it on a stress scale right up there with foundation piecing. Adding to the stress was the fact that it was late in the afternoon when my sewing room heats up to baking temperature. For some reason, there seems to be no way to cool that room on summer afternoons. I turn the air conditioning way down and keep the fan going, but to little avail. Vann even had extra insulation installed in it for me, and that helped, just not enough.
Anyway by the time I got finished mitering, I was soaking wet and exhausted. And looking at the borders now, I think unmitered borders would have done just as well, maybe better. But there you are.
I'll post a photo of the entire quilt top on Friday when I give my UFO progress report.
Thanks to all of you for your comments yesterday. I just get so distraught when I think I've offended someone that I'm sure I overreact. I should realize that there's no way, short of keeping my mouth shut and my fingers off the keyboard, to avoid offending some of the people some of the time. But I still don't like it.
Time to take the doggies to Dr. Rachel for their annual checkups and shots. So I guess I'll give her office a call and set up appointments for them. I don't look forward to that. Sophie hates to go to the vet, and Skipper in the car is an event in itself.
All you Little Green Quilters, don't forget that tomorrow is progress report day. Mr. Linky will be up in the morning.

I hate it when after the fact, I realize I didn't have to exert the energy I did on a project. But, when you are up to your knees in ideas and enthusiasm, it's hard to pull in and think of an easier solution.

I hear you on mitered corners and agree on the stress. It's a step by step process, but is also a minefield of places to goof up. Sigh!
Perhaps you need some attic vents or turbinators to vent the hot air out of your attic and then your sewing room would be cooler? You could also move your sewing room to a cooler room and let the hot room be the seldom used guest room. If you have another extra room upstairs, you could make the hot sewing room into a storage room for your stash, linens, your seasonal decorations, and such like the British "boxing room" many homes used to have. Imagine the possibilities!
I look forward to seeing your Autumn Pinwheel!
Hugs!
