The Cardinal Tree

Card22

During my husband Vann's illness, as some of you might remember, I took comfort in all the red cardinals that seemed to be gathering around The Yellow House to keep us company. I decided to decorate a tree with cardinal ornaments last Christmas. Many of you sent ornaments for the tree. After putting up the big tree in the living room on Tuesday, I put the Cardinal Tree in its place in the foyer on top of the antique sewing machine.

Sweetie...thought of you this morning, filled our deck side bird bath with fresh water and by the time I got inside and shut the door Daddy Cardinal was telling the world that he found fresh water...they hold special meaning in our family, my father in law loved them so, he even wore my mother in laws cardinal sweatshirt till we got him his own. During the summer when we're sitting outside watching the birds Andrew will say "look there's Pop"....

It looks so FRIENDLY! I also love Cardinals! Their birdsong is very recognizable, and they are mates for life so whenever you see or hear one, you KNOW the other is nearby! I believe that's part of what the cardinals were telling you, Susan! Even if you can't quite SEE Vann, he is always near you! I LOVE YOU!

I didn't know they mate for life. I think you're right, Kai. And I know he's nearby. Always.

What a fabulous tidbit about cardinals mating for life! No wonder you were drawn to them, and you didn't even know why! Your trees are both very special and lovely.

Every time I see a cardinal, I think of you and your Vann. I believe there must be cardinals aplenty in Heaven.♥

What a beautiful tree of faith and remembrance. Surely Vann is smiling as he hears your ideas and sees your creative talents adorning the house. I think of you and Vann when I see a cardinal, too, and know he must be close to you in spirit.

Hugs!

Hi Susan,
your cardinal tree is beautiful - and will always carry memories, both happy and sad with it - but every Christmas it will bring a little of Vann back to you. Enjoy your Christmas preparations!
