It has become a tradition in this town that every Christmas season my sister Ramey reads this book, Cajun Night Before Christmas, somewhere. It might be at the meeting of the Castalia Literary Club, the Poetry Society, or just a group of family and/or friends. But not a December goes by that Ramey doesn't read this little gem somewhere. Yesterday, she read it to our Christmas gathering of The Bookmarkers, our reading group.
Ramey does a fair job at mimicking the Cajun patois, and we all enjoyed her rendition, after which we chowed down on a table full of goodies and talked business. We planned our 2011 meetings for the first part of the year. Some of the books we'll be reading and discussing are True Grit by Charles Portis, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, and Catcher in the Rye by the recently deceased J.D. Salinger. I am particularly happy that we have schedule the last one, since I feel I may be the only person in America who has never read that book. This will give me incentive.

Diane the Dog Groomer paid us a visit in her doggie-grooming van last evening. Both Sophie and Skipper were tended to by Diane: Sophie got the works, and Skipper got a bath and his nails trimmed. They both smell so good right now, but I'm sure they'll take care of that as soon as they can find something in the back yard to roll in.
I've had a request to show and tell about the quilt hanging behind the cardinal tree. That's my Santa Sampler Quilt. Several years ago, we had a speaker at our quilters guild who showed us Santa sampler quilts that her group had made. I mentioned to my friend Cyndi that I would like to get a group together to make Santa Samplers. She said that, lo and behold, the bee (small quilting group) she was in was doing just that and that they had room for another member. So I joined, and the Santa Sampler was the first activity that I did with The Piecemakers Quilting Bee. I've been a member ever since.
This is me (photo above) in front of the quilt at the first quilt show our guild held after the quilt's completion. It was about 1994, I think.
We shared Santa patterns and over the course of a year, most of us made enough blocks to put together a quilt. I wish I had photos of some of the other lady's quilts to show. If I rumble around in my old photos, I might find some. I'll let you know if I do.

Just so you know, if your blog has the comment format shown in the photo below, it will not allow me to leave a comment. I have no clue why this is. I'm signed in to Google, Typepad, Blogger, and all the other things I can sign into, but still it won't take my comments. It doesn't give me a message telling me why. I click the"Post Comment" button and my comment just simplyl disappears into thin air. I don't tell you this as a complaint or expect anyone to fix it. I just want those of you with this comment format to know why I never ever leave a comment on your blog. Some of the blogs that I regularly comment on have recently changed formats to this. If this is the case with your blog, don't expect to hear from me in your comment section.

Since this is Pink Saturday over at Beverly's Blog, I'm linking to How Sweet the Sound . At first, I wasn't going to link to pink Saturday, since there is very little pink in this post. But then I learned that Beverly's theme this week is favorite Christmas movies. So I had my pink!!!
I had no trouble at all coming up with my favorite hoiday movie; hands down one hundred percent, it's "A Christmas Story." If for some reason you've never seen this most funnest of all holiday treats, click on this link to see a trailer.
It just isn't Christmas to me until I've watched the movie at least three times. One of the channels, TBS I think, traditionally runs it for 24 hours, starting sometime on Christmas Eve. I can't wait! Well, really, I don't have to since I have my own copy. So maybe I won't.
And here's the pink that qualifies this blog post as an official PINK SATURDAY participant.
... the pink nightmare!
HAPPY PINK SATURDAY TO ALL.
LATE ADD: I am also linking to Brambleberry Cottage's Linky Party. Click on the link for some more bloggy fun.

I had problems leaving messages for awhile. My husband suggested not using Firefox but Internet Explorer to sign on.....and it worked.
I noticed that Santa quilt in your last post. I love it. How sweet was that getting to get in on making the quilt and joining the group.
Happy Holidays.

Don't have Internet Explorer. I work on a Mac.

..however, on a whim, I signed on with Safari instead of Foxfire, and it worked. I can leave comments if I'm browsing with Safari. That's weird. But anyway, thanks Debby for the idea.

My GOODNESS! Look how spiffy & Christmasy-clean those two darlings are all duded up! I just love 'em! Also love that Santa quilt! It's gorgeous and HAPPY! And who's that beauty queen standing by it? Oh! That's my beautiful friend, Susan! Had to smile over Ramey's reading her must-read book! I'm exactly the same about The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! GOT to read it aloud each year or Christmas isn't complete! Hmmmm ... I think I need to go post to my blog about that! LOL!

I was overwhelmed with all the great things you shared today. I love them all. Most of all, my true love is the quilt with you in front. I am a quilt freak. You did a marvelous job on your post and the quilt.

Hi!
Love the clean puppies in their holiday finery!
The quilt is just wonderful, so exuberant and joyful! The star Santa blocks interest me as I have a 3-D Star Santa that was a gift.
I have problems leaving comments only many blogs since I have no blog and am on only LiveJournal. I prefer your choice of setup where I can easily leave a message.
Raining here and am pooped from putting up the tree today but it's done!! Will be happy dancing when I have the energy. The spoon drawer is very low at the moment.
Hugs!

Hi Susan! Funny, blogs written on Typepad (like yours!) are hard for me to leave comments on. I have to turn off my firewall, reload your blog, then leave a comment. So I don't comment as much as I'd like to! I'm using Firefox now but the same thing happened with IE. Weird! P.S. I've never seen A Christmas Story, if you can believe it!

Did you see the article in a recent People mag. about the kid in movie Peter Billingsly I think his real name is?He still has the bunny suit. He works in Hollywood behind scenes not as actor. I used to live in Cleveland and love that they used Higbees and Public Square in movie. The movie house is in Tremont area. Have your toured it? It is open as museum and has a gift shop next door.
Happy Pinkmas to you
