We have 11 sign-upees for next week's virtual quilting retreat (see yesterday's post). If your name isn't on this list and you want to join in, just let me know. The more, the quiltier.
**Last night episode of "Criminal Minds" was one of the scariest ever. The spirit of J.J. remained, as Garcia removed the name plate from J.J.'s office door. I just have a feeling she's coming back. My fingers are crossed.
**My cough/cold/allergy is hanging tough. I got hardly any sleep last night. I'm taking guifenesen, which helps a bit, but I think I need some something else.
**I spent most of yesterday reading To Kill a Mockingbird. That's our October selection for book club discussion which takes place tomorrow. I'm the leader for October, and I chose this selection specifically because this year marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of the remarkable book by Harper Lee. I was about 17 years old the first time I read it. Along with the New Testament, TKAM has served as a foundation for most of my belief system. Growing up where and when I did, I always felt that some things were just not right in my surrounding culture. This book put it all in perspective for me, explained to me how and why things weren't right. Plus, it's just a darn good story. It's my firm belief that everyone should read TKAM at least once. This is, by my count, my fifth reading.

I'd like to be included in the Quilt Retreat.
I don't know if I've ever told you about VEMMA. It has helped with the fibro, colds, sinus and my vertigo episodes have decreased. If you'd like to read about it go to htp://vemma.com/sandyalford. You can read the clinical studies for yourself. Dr Oz supports and takes VEMMA and has talked at thier conventions. He was also on the weekly phone call, which was very interesting.
Hope you get to feeling better.
I've never read TKAM. I don't remember ever having to read it for school (a hundred years ago).

Susan,
I am a yes now instead of maybe. My schedule is clear!

Oh! The Criminal Minds episode was scary to the max and I wondered how tight a hold you had on your furry kids. I was out of the room several times when it got too awful. Shudder!
I liked TKAM but read it just once. I grew up not too, too far from you and agree with what an eye-opener it was.
Hugs!

Ooooooh! You are as faithful a Criminal Minds viewer as I am a Law & Order SVU viewer! I wish though that I'd watched Criminal Minds, too, from its beginning! A LOT of people love that show! Poor Susan! Mean old cold and/or allergies! I hope you feel LOTS better soon! And finally, TKAM: Like you, I think it it one of the BEST books ever! I've read it MANY times over the years, and love the book even more than the movie! You make me want to read it again. Hmmm ... I need to introduce Ray to that book! I just recently bought him a copy of Animal Farm & he loved it! Guess what he's currently reading? RAMEY'S BOOK! One more thing. Did you ever see the movie, Member of the Wedding?

TKAM: I read it every year, usually sit down with it and can't put it down again until I'm done, in the wee hours of the morning. Every time, I am profoundly moved by that story.
Having just come out of 2 weeks of bronchitis, may I suggest using a Neti pot? I was coughing because my sinuses were draining -- and it is a natural, no drug way to help your body heal. Kind of like gargling with salt water, but for your sinuses instead of your throat.
Best,
--Bonnie

Hi Susan. I read your blog every day and enjoy it very much. My book club chose To Kill a Mockingbird also last month. I was in charge of researching the author and let me tell you, I did. It was a month of Monroeville, Harper, and Truman Capote. I loved it! My very favorite fiction book ever. It was very hard to get any information about Harper Lee, as she is such a recluse, and there is little info. about her out there. A book titled Mockingbird was a wealth of info. I think you'd like to read it. It gives a lot of info. about the characters and Lee's life. Also, July's Southern Living has an article about Lee and Monroeville including pictures
of the courthouse and local life there. You can probably see it at the library if you do not get this magazine.I hope you don't mind, but I have emailed you a short paper I wrote regarding the author and some trivia about the author. I think your book club will enjoy it. Mine did. If it is too late, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Have fun at your book club discussing this wonderful book!

Ooohh, I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes of Criminal Minds this week! I had to turn it off (may have something to do with having a 21 year old daughter who lives in the city while going to school). I love that you give your toughts each week on the show (one of my absolutely favorites - I just switched the channel Wednesday night and watched an old episode - most nights you can find CM on somewhere - LOL!)
I hope you are feeling better soon!
