I Know They Look Sweet Now

Sophie asleep So quiet and peaceful. Such good dogs. Surely they can cause no problems.

But a dozen times a day or so, these two little sweethearts claim they have to go outside. And outside doesn't mean out into the small fenced backyard space. They refused to utilize that area for it's intended purpose. Too small, they say. We have to have room to sniff and find just the right spot.

Going outside with one dog isn't such a feat, but two is a sight to behold. I've tried both dogs off leash (so that they each runs in opposite directions), both on leash (oh what a tangled web we weave), Skipper on/Sophie off (Sophie makes sure to find a cat to chase just to aggravate Skipper, so Skipper twists and flops till he's all tangled up in either his leash or some piece of shrubbery). None of those scenarios has proved effective in a walking area infested with kitty cats.

Skip asleep
But help is on the way. I finally got a fence estimate that I can afford. Lowe's, of all places, sold me a fence for less than half (just a little more than a third, actually) of what that other guy was asking. So yesterday, I signed the contract. The nice salesman put us on the installation schedule and said it would be a couple of weeks before the installer got to us.

Our entire backyard will be fenced. There's a small wooded area where these two mutts can sniff to their hearts' content. There are squirrels and chipmunks and birds and bugs and no telling what all. Jesse is going to come and help me clear the underbrush out and give them room to run.

I can even take up to a year, interest free, to pay for the fence if I like, which I might do. As my first husband always said, "Always use someone else's money when you can," a philosophy that he lived by with a passion.

Got to go now. The two aforementioned mutts are fussing to be taken out. So here we go. Adventure Time!

I know it's not funny when you're using your spoons many times a day to take the dogs out to do their business, but you do write a funny story about it! Thanks for the chuckles and the eloquent word pictures. Yes, sleeping and solar powered dogs do look so serene ...

Cheers for the fencing to come!! Will the fence have several small and low open places between boards so the dogs can look out and about in each direction? I've seen fences like this and it's too cute to see a doggie face looking through a small gap that's been put at just the right height for the enclosed dog. The holes are far too small to allow an escape, but are stellar in satisfying a dog's curiosity.

Be good to you!

Hugs!

p.s. I forgot to add that seeing a fence with the peek holes at two different heights is cute, too. Anyone seeing those little gaps just knows happy dogs of two or more sizes are within!

:D

That's great that you're getting a fence! I'm sure the dogs will enjoy it too. I don't know what I'd do if we hadn't fenced our yard. Sometimes it's just not convenient to walk our dog (he gets walked at least once a day even though we have a huge yard). He likes new sniffs :)

Woooohoooo! That will be so good for YOU, and a great, satisfying solution for Miss Sophie & Lil' Skipper! They can play to their doggy hearts' content, do their business sans tangled leashes or tempting kitties/squirrels/etc., and just bark to re-enter the house! I'm so glad for you!

Good for you! I wish we had a fenced in hard - if our Peke Lilly is out, we're out! I can't imagine it with two (lucky they are cute, huh?!)

Sure wish I could do the retreat! I love quilting retreats of any kind - solo or with a crowd o:)
