This will be the first project I work on at our online quilting retreat--the bear baby quilt that I promised a friend of mine some time back. That kid is probably a couple of months old by now. If I drag this one out much longer I'll have to start adding rows of squares and change the center from a teddy bear to a football player or something.
I thought I'd show you this portable design wall that I ordered from Connecting Threads. A friend of mine had one at our Piecemaker's Retreat last year (the one that got cancelled this year).
When I took my big piece of flannel off the wall so that the sewing room could be painted, I washed it and got it all ready to put back. Then when I saw the pretty wall, I really didn't want to hang that old piece of flannel back up. I decided I wanted one of these portable walls that I could take down and put away when I wasn't using it.
Well after putting the thing together, I doubt I will ever tear it down--because I do not want to go through that again.
It's not that it was complicated to assemble. Not at all. The assembly instructions are very easy to understand and accomplish. The problem came about in trying to find some floor space large enough to lay the thing out for assembly. I think I knocked over everything knockable-over in my sewing room and scared Skipper so bad one time when the whole contraption jumped out of my hands that he hid under his doggie bed and wouldn't come out until I had finished with the job.
But I do like the wall. And I know it will be great to take to retreats, after I recover from the trauma of putting it together the first time. I can see that if I had had plenty of floor space, it would have been a cinch to assemble.
It's not too late to join in our 2nd Annual Yellow House Online Quilting Retreat. I think we have 13 attendees so far. If you have some free time next Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday, we'd love for you to join us. Just check here for details.

Hi Susan,
I have the same design wall and use a queen or king bed to lay it on to put it together. Much easier than the floor. Hope to see you on Monday at quilt guild.

Oh, now I have design wall envy! Add to that large sewing room envy, of course! Am headed for Connecting Threads to see if this needs to be on my Christmas list! I think I could put it up against my fabric shelves .... yep, and slide it to the left to get to the fabrics ... and perhaps never get out of this little room again! Fortunately, a phone and the computer are here, so I could call for help.
Love the teddy bear and surrounding squares in those colors!
Roll Tide!
Hugs!

I'm GLAD you got that for yourself! YOU DESERVE IT! I can't SEW, much less QUILT, but can I PRETEND I'm at your virtual quilting retreat as an observer? I'll be really well-behaved - I promise! - and I'll wait on everyone & take Miss Sophie & Lil' Skipper for walks! And MAYBE I'll even learn a teeny bit about quilting! LOVE YOU! P.S. I heard Ray cracking up last night & he said today it was over Ramey's book! He loves it! I knew he would!

Really like your baby quilt! I'm looking forward to the Yellow House Quilting Retreat. When I explained it to my husband, he was a little confused. He did say he would e-mail my pictures to you. (I am technologically challenged.) On Tuesday and Wednesday I'll work on my Dear Jane quilt. My dad has another Dr. appointment on Thurs. but two days of sewing is heaven to me! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone will be sewing. (Maybe Kai will get inspired to learn to quilt.) Pat Mc
