Well, here I am. It's a new Sunday morning and it's raining and cool. And strangely enough, that makes me feel better. I can feel autumn just around the corner and I rejoice in its imminent arrival. Hurray! Hip Hip! Come on autumn!
Friday I decided to get out of the house and peruse the nearby flea market. And I'm glad I did. I've been looking at this blue chest all summer. (Sorry that pic is a little slanted.) I thought it would be just right for the empty spot in my kitchen.
The chest started out with a price tag of $89. Well, I certainly thought that was too much, so I left it in the booth. A month or so later, I noticed it have been marked down to $42.50. Better, I thought, but still a little pricey. So Friday, the person who owns that booth had a sign posted that declared everything to be half price. So I wrestled that chest into my shopping buggy and made it mine for only $21.25.
The top of the chest lifts up and there's lots of storage space inside. I haven't decided what I'll store in it yet--probably superfluous dishes.
My as yet unmade chicken quilt will someday hang above it. But until then, "Dreams of Junk Food" will suffice. I made this wall hanging, oh, years ago, when I first joined my quilting bee, The Piecemakers. I joined just after the bee had organized a round robin challenge. I decided to take part, but because I had got in late, I did all the rounds myself.
I also found the fun set of gingham-handled flatware below for $4.
...and the pretty piece below for $2.

I love the chest, the gingham flatware, and the pretty hanger. The Dreams of Junk Food is just too cute! The fabrics are perfect and see fish and birds are on the cat's mind!! Well done, both in shopping and sewing!
You will certainly be in my prayers this week as the unwelcome task faces you and the sad anniversary arrives unbidden.
Be gentle with yourself and feel our love.
Hugs

You are a VERY savvy shopper! Not only did you get a lovely piece for a GREAT price, but it fits so well into your kitchen! In fact, all the finds are perfect! You know I'm thinking of you & sending you so much love & support. Ray said to tell you he gave Vann's name to the priest who mentioned him at today's mass! I love you & I am here anytime you need me for any reason!

That little blue chest is adorable - how nice that no one else was tempted to pay the higher prices - it was saved for you. Love the funky little quilt. You find such pretty things for your home!

I can't believe you didn't snatch that table up when it was in the $40s, you're a very patient and savvy shopper! There's room in your kitchen? Where did the island/table go?
I LOVE how you joined in the round robin by doing your own!
You'll be in my thoughts this week.
