As I sit here in my pinkish living room, contemplating all the work that I have accomplished during the first half of 2010, I'm amazed. (I'm also amazed that 2010 is half gone already.)
I've discovered something else too. There's really not all that much left to do. All the big jobs are done inside. All I have to do now is hang wall art and do a little more decorating and gussying up of dresser and chest tops, and it'll be done. Of course, there'll be additions and subtractions from time to time. But I will have accomplished what I set out to do. Make my house my own cozy haven.
It's going to be a busy weekend around here. I (and possibly Ramey) are going to a community yard sale tomorrow in an East Birmingham neighborhood. Sunday, Ramey is having a book signing at the Leeds Arts Council. If you're around Leeds Sunday afternoon between 2:30 and 4:00, we'd love to see you there. Ramey will have books for sale.
Ramey's book is one of those things that I wish I could share with Vann. And with our daddy and mama. And Jenny. We can only hope that they know, and are just as proud as we are.
I made a promise to myself a few days ago that I was going to set aside Fridays as Sew Days, leave off the decorating and get into the sewing room. So I think I'll do that--right after I hang a few plates in the guest room. But first, a nice bowl of oatmeal and another cup of joe.
NOTE: A few of you asked about the blue quilt in the guest room. Yes, I did make it. I started it at the first quilting retreat I ever attended, at Twin Pines in Shelby County in about 1995. I finished it at home. It is machine pieced but totally hand quilted. It won a ribbon at one of my guild's quilt shows, third place, I think, but I don't remember the category. The pattern came from a Leisure Arts book. If anyone wants the title, I can look on my book shelf. Thanks for all your nice comments on the quilt and the room.

Again, our lives are the same: I've been fixing up my house for the last several months to be a haven for myself, too. I'm learning to focus on what IS done and not what still NEEDS TO BE done. And the progress is very satisfying. May your home feel full of peace and joy.

I'm so happy to hear that you've almost got your home looking as you want it to and imagined it would!! Applause!!!!
You know, it's funny, but I was thinking this morning that Fabric Friday was something you might want to consider. Were we on the same wavelength or what?!
I believe that Vann, your parents, and Jenny are beaming happily about Ramey's book. Yes, I do. Perhaps they even put some ideas into her head as she wrote it!
Have a happy time in your sewing room! What awaits you?
Hugs!

Congratulations, you have done so much in such a short time, I'm very impressed. I love looking back at my own blog and seeing what I've accomplished in the past, even if it doesn't feel like I've done a lot, when I look back it all adds up. And, as you say, where has the first half of 2010 disappeared to???

I am so glad that you can finally relax and enjoy the fruits of your labour. We all need a haven where we feel comfortable and that's just what you've created for yourself. Enjoy and fabric Friday sounds like a good idea.

Your house decorating is amazing. Everything looks so sweet and cozy ... and clean. Wish I could spend time sitting around with you in your new environs.
About the book and family members: I keep wondering what Daddy would say about that picture of me with the possum on my shoulder! I believe he would find that more notable than the book.

Your house is looking lovely. It's always so nice to sit back and enjoy the items that you "treasure". Yesterday while at Lowe's I caught myself looking at pinkish paint. And how horrid of me "is that the color I would choose if it was just me?" and my thoughts were of your house. But I know for sure -- I'd take the Dale Earnhardt & Tony Stewart (I like Tony)racing pictures and trophies out of my living room and bedroom !!! Oh well, some other day, if the Lord sees fit - I certainly don't know the future.
