I think it was Woody Allen who said, "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans." I think the Almighty probably giggled all day yesterday. As I told you, I was determined to work in the guest room all day and get it all newly decorated and photographed to feature it today on Cielo's "Show Off Your Cottage Monday." And of course I opened my big mouth and told God all about what I planned to do. I tell him everything. He should have just said, "I wouldn't do that if I were you." I would have listened. But no, he just let me plow right ahead and find out for myself. I guess lessons are learned best that way.
At the thrift store yesterday, I purchased a beautiful large framed print that was perfect to hang over the guest room bed. It had only one small problem. Several of the staples that held it in its pretty blue frame were missing, causing the print, which is mounted on heavy cardboard, to warp. I can fix that, thought I. I'll just cut a piece of foam core, place it over the back of the print, and replace the missing staples.
I was completely delusional, but I didn't know it yet. From one place or another, I acquired the necessary tools and materials, removed all the old staples, took the print out, cut the foam core to size, and replaced everything in the frame. Since the staples I had weren't long enough, I used tiny nails, tacked down all around the back of the frame and bent down to hold the print in place. Voila! as they say in Francais.
I turned the frame over to admire my beautiful framed print, and what do you think? The glass had broken, plus the nails weren't doing the job I had hoped they would. I won't tell you what I said then. Use your imagination. There's more to this story; but I'm trying to keep it short. But altogether, the afternoon included a trip to Wal-Mart, a trip to Lowes, a stop at the gas station as I was almost out of gas, and a trip to Hobby Lobby.
All these trips were useless, except for the one to get gas. Lowe's didn't have what I needed; the stuff I got at Walmart didn't work out; and Hobby Lobby is closed on Sunday, a fact that I had completely forgotten.
Absolutely no thing got done in the guest room, so instead I offer you the follow photos. Since what I really needed when the day was over was a soft spot to lay my head, I decided to feature pillows for my first participation in Cielo's Show Off Your Cottage Monday. (Pillows and this ridiculously long story about why I couldn't show the guest room.) Be sure to pay a visit to Cielo to see what other cottage dwellers have to show.

I have those days sometimes too - where you get to the end and just wished you hadn't even started!I think God should have given you a nudge though and told you not to bother!

Well, you sure have many beautiful cottage-inspired pillows to make up for it! Don't worry. I do the same thing. Think I know what I'm doing and fall flat on my face. I have many "projects" hiding behind doors I can't bear to toss due to the amount of work involved. Yet I can't stand to look at them! Tomorrow's another day, as they say!

As I was reading I thought "But Hobby Lobby is closed on Sunday". I know that because I have made the same mistake. Love all the pillows and the guest room will be finished when it is time.

Isn't it funny that when one little thing happens, lots of little things happen? I hope you're eventually able to salvage the picture. Meantime, I love all the pillows!

Sorry that the picture didn't work out but I am sure that you will get it fixed and it will look beautiful.
The pillows are really lovely Susan- makes me want to lay down for a nap- so inviting - no time for that today- got laundry and some other things to do so I feel satisfied with my day.
Your house is coming nicely and you have accomplished alot in a short time- Soon it will be the way you have been planning.
Regards,
Anna

Always makes me crazy when the "fix" costs more than the "find". Some days are just like that!
I love all the roses you have been showing. Aaargh, they would never happen in this house, though. Unfortunately. . . . .

I stopped by for a short visit from I can't remember where and stayed for quite some time. You are an interesting gal and I enjoyed my stay so much. It's so nice to meet you. You have inspired me to get at sewing some of the pillows I mean to stitch. Thank you so much.
