Hangings

Last pink

I as tickled pink by all the visits, comments, and added followers during my first participation in Beverly's Pink Saturday party. Thank you all so much. That was fun. I met lots of bloggers and found lots of wonderful blogs that I didn't know about before. I will definitely be a regular--at least until I run out of pink stuff to photograph, which isn't likely in the near future. In fact, I began this post with another tiny bit of pink to show you (above).

Hanging 5 I have been very busy this weekend, hanging stuff on the walls here at The Yellow House. I hate hanging pictures and things. Driving those nails into freshly painted walls is such an intimidating process. So final. What if you don't like what you've hung where you've hung it? Which has already happened to me. I have two nail holes to repair and repaint. Good thing I have some extra Warm Cappuccino (read pink) paint.

I found the plate hanger in the photo above at a yard sale recently. It had been gold at some time in the past, but now it was all tarnished. So I wiped it down and spray painted it black, and it's good as new. Those plates are Johnson Brother's "Rose Chintz," made in England. Why do we think china and dinnerware are somehow better if they're made in England, as opposed to China or Taiwan?

The painting of the lady is by my sister Ramey. I don't know who she is; I just tell people she's our rich ancestor. Anyway, the colors are just right for my living room so there she hangs.

Hanging 6 These pieces at left also hang in the living room. The top one was done by a friend, Ray Watkins. I wish you could see the intricate detail in this pen-and-ink creation. It's amazing.

The subject of the bottom sketch is "The Goat Man" , Ches McCartney, and the artist is Larry K. Martin, who also wrote a book about Mr. McCartney entitled America's Goat Man.

If you don't know the story of The Goat Man, I recommend you go to the links above and read about him. I remember when I was a very young child, my family was traveling to Tennessee to visit relatives when we happened upon Mr. McCartney. I believe it was at a service station, but I'm not sure. Anyway there were people gathered around him and his entourage of nannies, billies, and kids. It was quite a thrill for me and my sister to see him. Did any of you ever get to see The Goat Man?

Hanging 3

I did some hanging in the dining room too. All the wall art there features cottages or houses, and it was all purchased either at a thrift store, flea market, or yard sale. Below are some closeups.

Hanging 2

Hanging 1

The hanging on the right, you may recall, was machine embroidered and given to me by my friend Maria. It's the words of a poem written by our neighbor Danny the day after Vann passed away.

Hanging 4

This is my foyer where I'm hanging my goose pictures. So far, I only have three. The bottom one is a print by my friend watercolorist Jack Deloney. The two on top or thrift finds.

Hanging 7

Goose garden
I almost forgot; I do have another goose piece, the cross stitched sampler done by my mama (above). But I've already shown you that. It hangs just inside the foyer in the living room. It's one of my favorite things. The hiking stick to the left of the piece is also a favorite. Vann created it from a twisted trunk of a sapling.

That's all the hangings I have to show you now. But please come back again tomorrow for "Show Off Your Cottage Monday" when I plan to give you a look at the completed blue guest room. Well, almost completed. I still have to do something with the window.

HAPPY SABBATH TO ALL.

Hi Susan
Love all the redecorating you've been doing. I've followed with great interest. Thought you might like to know that the lady in the painting is Anne of Cleves, Henry Vlll's wife number 4.

I think you've done a wonderful job hanging the various pictures, plates, and platters. Each looks lovely! I understand how daunting the blank walls look as you begin this type project.

The Goat Man is so interesting and I'm sorry to have missed him while growing up in west Tennessee. You are fortunate to have this sketch.

Hugs and happy Sabbath to you, my friend!

Susan - You have the best area for finding treasures I think. So many lovely things - your house is so pretty! I've been known to cheat and use tooth paste for some smaller holes in the wall. Don't know where I picked up that idea.

Everything looks so lovely! And, even BETTER, it looks warm, inviting, and HAPPY! You are a terrific decorator, Susan! The Yellow House should be featured in a home decor magazine!

I adore those little rabbits in the first photo! My fear of the abandoned nail holes is something that almost paralyzes me from hanging up pictures on a freshly painted wall. I'm so bad about that.

I would appreciate it uf you could give me the name of the Jack C. Deloney Print I had purchased it and was having it reframed and ask the framer to please give the the name of the print since Mr. Deloney always named his prints, well he forgot to do that so the only way I will find out os either find someone who can give me the name or have the framer reopen the print and I am sure he will charge
