Daniel brought my little chair home yesterday. I just love that dark sage green fabric he used for the slipcover. It's a perfect counterpoint to all the red and pink in the living room. It gives the room a little more depth and interest. Not that I don't love all the red--I do, but it needed a partner color, I think. And the sage green is it. It takes a wee bit of the foo out of all the foo-foo, don't you think?
And look at that beautiful feather pillow. That was a gift from Daniel, sweet boy.
If anyone out there needs a good decorator and lives near Birmingham, Alabama, I can highly recommend this one. He's a jewel.
I had a very busy day yesterday. First I cleaned up my kitchen and finished my laundry--two chores that had been going on for what seemed like days and days.
Then I baked a sour cream pound cake to take to my friend Veronica, whose sister passed away this week.
Then I took the cake to Veronica's house. And some time after parking and before going in, I managed to lock up the steering wheel, gear shift, and switch mechanism in my car. When I got back to the car from delivering the cake, the key wouldn't turn, the gear shift wouldn't shift, and the steering wheel was frozen in place.
The temperature was a balmy 127 degrees and the humidity was akin to hot chicken soup as I shook the car, twisted the key, beat on the steering wheel, and loudly cussed all car manufacturers.
When my friend Kathy drove up to deliver her chocolate cake and found me drenched to the bone and red faced, she insisted that I get out of the car and come into the air conditioning of Veronica's house and get one of the dozens of men inside to come and start my car.
I did that. Squishing in my shoes and dripping sweat from every part of my body, I went with Kathy. V's daughter immediately plied me with a bottle of cold water while her husband went out and started my car. MEN! How come a piece of machinery will cooperate with a man when it won't even listen to a woman dying of heat stroke beg it to please do what it was built to do?
Back home, I took some ibuprofen for my splitting headache, walked Sophie in the heat about 15 times, and answered the phone numerous times while trying to take a nap. No nap ever materialized, and the headache persisted until I finally went to bed and slept it off. I feel much better this morning, but I'm wishing ever harder for cool weather to arrive. It's not going to any time soon, however. The weather forecasters tell us it's only supposed to get hotter.
Look what's up in the corner of my front porch ceiling. On Sunday, I saw two little open birdy mouths poking up in there. Haven't seen them since, and I didn't want to get close enough to shoot down into the nest, afraid of causing the mama bird to abandon her babes. Sophie knows they're up there though. Every time we go out the front door, she walks over to that side of the porch and looks up.
Today I plan to work on getting everything out of my office and upstairs bathroom and into the sewing room where it all belongs. I probably won't get the sewing room organized today, but at least everything else upstairs will be in a condition that Linda can vacuum and dust tomorrow. Stay cool, all.

Oh Susan I am surprised you didn't get heatstroke. Hoping you are feeling better. Isn't it true about men and machinery. I am so ready for cooler weather. Makes me think I should live elsewhere. Hugs...and I haven't forgotten you package! :)

You sweet girl! How IS it you manage to make such a traumatic thing (the car acting naughty) so funny? Darned machines! I think they are all anti-female! You were SUPER busy yesterday & I'm glad you finally rested last night! This heat is brutal. We have no a/c in the car & just going around to do errands is not fun! I LOVE that chair & pillow. Again, I am kowtowing before Daniel for ever having doubted him! Beautiful job! Now you rest today (Dr. Kai's orders) and stay inside in the a/c! LOVE YOU!

The sage green chair and it's lovely pillow are the perfect touch to set off your pretty living room!! Well chosen you and well done, Daniel!
Honestly! It seems to me that some machines have evil spirits in them. DH has a large air-compressor that is near my clothes dryer in his shop (long and irritating story there). It almost never fails that when I'm near the dryer, the blasted compressor roars on nearly startling me out of my skin. In fact, it often comes on when I simply walk past outside the building. How does it know I'm there??
I think the bird's nest is shaped like a heart. Do you see it?
My sympathy to Veronica's sister's family and all who loved her.
Stay cool and sip iced tea or lemonade!
Hugs!

I worry about you sometimes, woman ;-) Hint: Sometimes if you put your car in park while the steering wheel is cocked, if you pull on the wheel while trying to turn the key it usually releases. (sigh) ;-) Love you even though you never mean to call me...LBJ

Your gear-shift probably wasn't all the way in "Park." That will lock up the switch. Love the chair cover! - Una

That chair looks perfect with your room. I would have never thought that the sage could make so much difference in the apperance of the pink...simply beautiful!
Sorry about your car troubles. Glad you had some nice people close by to help.

I love the color and the little scallop skirt too. Well here's my car story. I was about to get in the car this morning to take the dogs to get groomed. I absentmindedly reached inside the open car window to unlock it (don't know who locked it, but have to keep the windows down some so they don't explode in this heat) Of course the alarm went off. Charlie started howling. I was in the hot closed garage with two howling dogs and an alarm blaring and couldn't think worth piddly! Finally got it off and then my nerves were worn. Darned cars anyway!

I love the skirt on the chair; that scallop is just precious. You've inspired me to get a quilt for my guest room. Some day I WILL quilt, for now Kohl's quilts are cute enough. Stay cool: Texas is sharing your heat right now.

Love that slip cover on the chair. The scallop is gorgeous. I am going to be slip covering some of my furniture, too.
