I had determined that, come hell or high water--no wait, that was yesterday. Anyway, I was planning to go to church today--but that was before The Great Hillside Chase of Sophie Belle Patterpaw.
This morning when we went out, I let her roam the yard while I set my potted plants back on the front porch. I had taken them in so the tornadoes wouldn't blow them away. We didn't have any tornadoes, thank you Jesus, but we did have high winds. There are leaves and small limbs all over the yard this morning. (Another job!)
But that's not the point of this post. The point is that by the time I had all my plants out, Sophie had wandered up into the back-door neighbor's yard, which is up a hill. I think I have explained to you before about people with chronic pain/fatigue issues and The Spoon Theory. I knew that if I had to climb that hill and get her, many spoons would be wasted.
So I called her, and called her, and called--and called and calledandcalledandcalled, etc. But Sophie played that little game she has called "I've gone deaf and I can't hear you, SuSu." She never played that game with Vann. I guess she thinks I'm a better playmate. Oh, sure.
There comes a point when I know that more calling and yelling would be fruitless--plus I know all the neighbors are getting annoyed with my shrieking. So I have to shut up and climb the hill and fetch my damn dog. The trouble with that is that she's not really deaf. She hears me coming, so she inches a little farther afield. And a little farther and a little farther, until she tires of the game and comes home with me.
This morning, we have inched over half the neighborhood, leaving spoons in our wake. Not only am I exhausted, I'm also in the throws of a major hot flash (yes, I still have them). The thought of taking a shower, doing my hair, putting on makeup--well, I can't even imagine it right now.
But it's a beautiful day! After all the storms of yesterday (talk about your hell and high water!), I can be nothing but grateful--even for that dog that likes to play games with me. I'm grateful for all of you too. Thanks so much for your thoughts on the dining room furniture. Sometimes I just need to hear it from somebody else. I've ordered the set, and next week I'll put my old set up for sale. It's in perfect condition with not a scratch or a mar. I'm hoping it goes fast. I'm not really experienced with selling things. I guess I'll try Craig's List. I hope to have the old set out, the dining room painted, and the carpet cleaned before the new set arrives. Which is probably impossible--but why set small goals?
Happy Sunday, everyone. I'm going to drink a glass of ice water and then see if I can find enough spoons to get me showered and off to church.

Oh no, what a naughty girl....Glad you survived the storm - although I'm guessing the beautiful yellow iris flower probably didn't. Hope you recover from your tiredness soon! Lol

I hear you on the spoons being left all over the neighborhood as you trailed after Sophie. The spoon analogy is so very apt and the Lord knows how fatigue affects you so won't deduct any stars from your crown if you stay home to rest.
I'm glad the storm didn't create havoc for you. We've fared well, too, so far. Knock wood!
Tardy me, I was late in leaving a comment on the dining set but I think your dining room will look lovely.
Hugs!

First, I'm GLAD you didn't get the worst part of those storms. We didn't either! Whew! Second, well - shame on you, Miss Sophie, treating mommy so badly! You are FAR too sweet to be so naughty! Susan, don't feel guilty - just REST. Church is wherever YOU are in prayer! I love you!

I saw the weather channel saying tornado's in Alabama yesterday I thought of you! Glad to hear you are okay :)
The Dining set you ordered is beautiful! What a great choice. And Craig's list is a good way to list stuff, I have sold a few things that way, but I always put it in the garage so when people come over they don't come in my house!

OMGSH ... little Sophie has you tagged, my dear!! and isn't it nice to be needed .. wanted! play the games!
I didn't make it to church as well. Our 10 yr old granddaughter played in a "tournament" this week-end that went wild. It rained, drizzled the entire day yesterday ... we were at the ball park for 13 hrs!! and played four games! the tournament director then canceled games for today, saying it called for rain! hellooooooo ... and he wasn't a blond!! he was a baldie with no brains! now now ... don't get upset about the baldie!! my son is bald ... has been since in his 20's and I love it!! back to the games!! granddaughter had 13 strikeouts in 5 innings! and yes, we won!!! didn't have the rain/storms like you did!!! thank goodness! they are brutal!

Why set small goals indeed! I hope your plan for the dining room comes together easily for you!
That Sophie, what are we going to do about her?

I am betting that you ran out of spoons. I too have chronic pain and know how exhausted you must have been by the time you got home with the dog. Life can be so disappointing when you run out of spoons early in the day.
