First order of business today is this great gift basket that Debra has put together to get us excited about making pillowcases for soldiers. Please go to Debra's Design Studio and find out how you can win this basket full of goodies.
I about worked myself into a frazzle yesterday. Last night, I was so tired that Sophie's last walk almost turned into a crawl. So today, I'm leaving off room renovation work. I'm going to straighten up my downstairs, which is a mess of clutter, then do a little sewing and/or knitting.
I talked to a woman at the consignment shop about those pretty pink chairs. She wouldn't trade for my chairs, but she did drop the price from $95 each to $65 each. So I think I'll go have a look at them tomorrow. It's raining and cold today with the possibility of snow or ice or something later. I'd rather stay home today.
The next order of business is to tell you about a childhood friend, Fred, who as it turns out is a super artist/craftman. He is the kid brother of one of my BFFs since 7th Grade, J.A. Fred (or Freddie as he was known back then) is several years younger than me and J.A. Back when we were teenagers, J.A. and I didn't think Freddie had any talents except bugging us or playing Mighty Mouse and jumping off his bunk bed singing "Here I come to save the day!"
Well we were wrong. Fred has become very skilled in decorative woodwork. Take a look at the photos below.
And my favorite (below), which Fred just finished yesterday.
If you'd like to know more about Fred's work or how you might own one of his beautiful creations, go to his website, A-R-C Custom Carvings.
And finally, it has begun to snow here in Leeds, Alabama. Big fat fluffy flakes. I think this is our fifth or sixth snow event of the season. That's unheard of here. Temps are just above freezing, so we shouldn't have travel problems. It sure is pretty.
Stay warm, everyone. Spring isn't here quite yet.

Sounds like a good price for the chairs. I like the high backs; just right for reading and dozing - a head rest. Beautiful wood carvings by your friend. Raining here; good day to relax. Have a great day.

Thank you Susan for putting this up, but you have way too good of a memory of the "old" days. All my stuff is custom designed on the computor and carved from there. Let me know if there is a piece I can do for you, in return for your post. I a currently carving a locomotive, engine. Also trying to finish up a Anti Stress Therapy board, which should be good for a laugh.

So glad to hear about Fred the artist, and to see his beautiful and inspirational carvings. I, too, remember him and J.A. as little ones. Love them both!

What lovely woodcarving! What shall yours say?
We have a print that says:
"American by birth.
Southerner by the grace of God!"
I hope you get at least one of the consignment chairs if it fits you. That is a good price and probably consignment shops are required to get a certain price for the owner of the chairs. A swap wouldn't be possible. I love high back chairs too, for that very reason of wonderful head support when nodding off!
The rain has started here but may be snow before long.
Hugs!

Did you get a lot of snow? We got more than we expected. Lovely giant snowflakes but it is over now, thank goodness.

Thank you for giving a shout out about the Gift Basket. There are many lovely items in it and the chance to win it is such a win-win for the troops and for the sewers. I hope some of your readers will come on board and sew a few pillowcases. You probably aren't the only here who needs to destash!

I hope you get those chairs, they are so cute! They would look really cute in a reading corner! I understand what you mean about taking a break from the room renovation-I worked in what is going to be a sewing room for my daughter and I for 6 hours yesterday! Geez, why do we hang on to so much STUFF? I guess it is easy when you have had 5 girls! I have 2 large buckets that are going to the Goodwill and 1 HUGE trash bag! I was so tired last night that when a friend called, I couldn't even focus on what she was saying! Today it is on to the 'office' space-that is going to be a BIG chore! I wish I would have known about the pillowcases for the troops. Is there still time to do it? We are retired Army and our brand-new son-in-law is in basic for the Navy right now! My daughter would probably sew some, also. Let me know about it!
Hope you have a WARM day-can't believe it is snowing again at your house! I thought Indiana was bad enough!
Hugs from a deceptively sunny Indiana

Hi Susan :) Your 'ole pal Freddy does gorgeous work, and whow on those "pink checked chairs!" I adore them and sure hope they end up in your little yellow house :) The price sounds excellent. Oh and thank you so much for sharing about the hearts and I can't believe Vann made those gorgeous book shelves. What a treasure! Glad you won the table cloth ... it is really pretty :) Oh and one last thing, have you ever tried a "nettie pot" for those sinuses??? Not sure if I spelled it correctly, but I have several friends who swear by them. Take care.
