In the photo above are some of the ladies in my WOW (Women of Worship) group. We have so much fun--two Beth Moore Bible studies each year, a week-long beach retreat to Orange Beach in June (with Bible study), bake sales, Cookbook sales, etc. We also award scholarships to kids for summer church camp, we've renovated one of the church kitchens, bought chairs, and I forget what all else. But we're a good group.
Another activity we do is to meet two or three times a year to celebrate group member birthday. Last night we gathered at Carrabbas Italian restaurant to celebrate winter and spring birthdays--mine included.
After dinner, we enjoyed the wonderful cake that Veronica baked for us, served by our friendly and cute waiter, Simeon (not sure of the spelling). I wish you could see his hair better in the picture. He had wonderful braids. He also told us to forget the tip and just give him a piece of the cake. We did both.
Veronica got the recipe for this cake from the 2009 Southern Living Annual Recipes book. I don't know the name of the recipe, but it's the cake on the cover. It was sooooo good, but V. had a wee bit of trouble with its creation. You see, she is one of the best cooks in our church. However, she doesn't, as a rule, bake. She's more the fantastic casseroles, roasts, chops, steaks, and veggie gal.
Well, early in the afternoon yesterday, Veronica called me. She sounded like she was in tears. She needed advise, she whimpered. The recipe had told her to set a pot on the stove with 2 inches of water, bring it to a boil, then set a glass bowl inside the pot in which she was to beat the icing while the water boiled.
"My bowl exploded," bawled Veronica. "What do I do?"
I asked her if she had a double boiler, which she did. Use that, I told her, and don't put any more glass bowls in boiling water. She did, and the cake was a huge success. But if any of you have that book and decide to bake that cake, be careful.
Attention winners of the Stormy Night contest a while back: I finally put your prizes in the mail the morning--except for you, Courtney. I'm packing yours with some other stuff I have for you. And except for you two, Ramey and Sister. I'll give yours to you at book club on Friday.

What a delicious looking cake! Sigh! I'd LOVE a piece, too. Wonder if I have that recipe somewhere ....? How wonderful to have such a great group to work with and play with.
Ah, yes, heat, glass, and moisture. Reminds me of the night in the ER when an obnoxious doctor (there are some!) whined that the light on the ENT chair had fingerprints on the bulb. The light was on and was hot. I told him I'd wipe it when the light was off and cool. He took and alcohol wipe and started to wipe the hot light bulb off - and it exploded as would be expected. Fortunately, the patient was unharmed. I cleaned up the broken glass, looked at the doctor as if to say, "You idiot:, and got another light bulb. Fortunately, the red-faced doctor just quietly worked on the patient.
Hope you feel good! Hugs!

What a fun night it was! Sorry I didn't get to chat much with you...all the way at the other end of the table! It's kinda hard to talk over 11 other women and understandably so!! It was great seeing you, as always my friend! Love you, LBJ

Oh, it looks like you all had a great time! And not only the CAKE, but that lil' waiter, look DELICIOUS! (Yes, I am OLD. AND round. AND frumpy. AND plain as dirt.) But I'm blind in only ONE eye. And cute is cute. HE'S CUTE! Sigh ... to be young again just for a bit ...! LOL!
