Happy Groundhog Day

Family-vacations-groundhog-day The official rodent of February 2 has spoken. Well, not exactly spoken, but he has made his prediction. Punxatawney Phil, the most famous groundhog in the world, scampered back in his den this morning, telling the world that we can expect six more weeks of wintertime here in the northern hemisphere.

Most years, Phil's actions would have made me happy in the knowledge that the horrible heat and humidity of another Alabama summer has been postponed for six more weeks. But this winter's cold and damp hasn't been kind to me, as you all know. So right now, I'd just like to drag Mr. Phil out of his den by his hind feet, look him in his beady eyes, and ask him if he's sure he doesn't want to revise his prediction. Make him an offer he can't refuse, so to speak. Show him my recipe for groundhog stew.

Oh well. Happy Groundhog Day everyone. Speaking of which, if you haven't seen the movie by the same title starring funny, funny Mr. Bill Murray, I recommend it. Makes an excellent winter evening activity when you're trapped inside under a blanket.

I feel MEAN saying this (which is why I almost didn't comment here today) but I'm RELIEVED about the prediction! Hopefully it will be JUST cool enough in Leeds to NOT bother you, and cold enough in H-town to make me content! Was that diplomatic? LOL! I dread, dread, dread the upcoming Spring and subsequent heat, hurricane season, and all that comes along with it.

Happy Groundhog Day to you too Susan. My Husband's Uncle Jack loved this day! Even celebrated by giving his lovely wife a box of candy every year :) Tks so much for the great book review below. I have added it to my list! Oh and about that shoulder tendinitis, have you had any shots of cortisone??? I ask b/c that is what inevitably helped mine. It took several tries, but the last one worked! On that last one, the Doctor also suggested I put my arm in a sling and give that a shoulder a rest for several days, together w/icing it. I'm convinced both of those helped as well. The best of luck w/yours!

Seems Groundhog Phil is correct since our forecast is "light wintery mix this afternoon and tonight, our 12'-14" of snow from Saturday isn't gone yet,and more snow is in the forecast for this coming Saturday! Yikes!

Susan, as I've said before, methinks you need a flannel quilt for these kind of winters. They make flannel in such lovely florals these days!

I'm pressing a UFO and putting cheerful floral borders on it as a "pay if forward" quilt for a friend of 30 years who is down in the dumps. You may remember another friend sent me a Christmas quilt in December, just because! When these borders are on, I MUST make a quilt for DS1. Please help me keep on that.

Hope you're feeling lots better. Stay cosy!

Hugs!

Susan,
Cheer up about Mr. Groundhog. No matter what he says, we up here in Maine always have about 3 or more months of winter left. I also don't like the hot and humidity so I guess it works for me.

That is one of my family's favorite movies - we turn it on any time we see it!

Funny how that mayor looks more and more like his charge every year...

Oh, and did you hear how PETA was complaining about the treatment of the groundhog this year? City officials said that the groundhog was treated better than many of our nation's children. That's ironic.
