Today was the February meeting of my quilting bee, the Piecemakers. We met at Mary U's house where we spent the morning enjoying Mary's wonderful brunch, stitching, talking, planning, and laughing. (We always laugh a lot.)
We have a tentative road trip planned for Friday. We're going to Boaz, Ala., to Wilson's Fabrics--that is if they decide to have their half-off sale. We've called them several times and were told each time that they're watching the weather. I haven't heard of any forecasts of inclement weather for north Alabama. And anyway, for a business to have a sale, don't they have to know before the morning of?
After a gorgeous sunshiny morning (with no tendonitis pain in my shoulder), clouds are beginning to gather round about the Yellow House. So I called up the weather forecast online, and it looks like we're in for more rain. Hope rain doesn't equal pain this time.
The only show-and-tell photo I could eke out of this morning's meeting was Sally and her gingko quilt above. Isn't it beautiful. Since nobody else had anything exciting to show, I shot a few of Mary's wall quilts that decorate her home. You can see them below.
I worked on the blanket stitch on my Yellow Fellow monster block (I'll show him again when he's finished). I stitched and I talked, and I talked and I laughed, and I stitched some more. I had stitched all the way around one of Yellow Fellow's fins (or whatever you call those things down his back). I went to lift up the block to clip the thread and I had stitched the silly thing to my shirt. I kept thinking that the fabric sure did feel thick while I was stitching it. So I spent the rest of the meeting picking Yellow Fellow's blanket stitching out of my shirt.
Checking the mailbox after I got home, I discovered a letter from Vann's pension fund saying that they had actually paid him for the month of October during which time he was not eligible to be paid due to the fact of being deceased. Consequently, they allowed, I would have to send them a check in the amount of a bunch of money in repayment. I went online to check the account to find out if they really had deposited a payment in Vann's account in October. But I couldn't access the account--even though I'm a signer on the account and the bank has a copy of Vann's death certificate and power of attorney on file and I have already been to the bank twice about this. I called the bank and was put on hold for about 30 minutes and then told I would have to go back to my branch office to straighten this out.
Exasperated, I hung up and came into the living room and turned on the TV. Across the screen flashed the message, "If you want to avoid an extra $5 monthly charge, please connect your tv to a phone line," or something like that. IT IS CONNECTED TO A PHONE LINE!!! So now I have to call the Dish Network. Either that, or turn on my heating pad, grab my fleece blanket, and take a nap. Nap wins.

Mary's gorgeous quilts make me ashamed of my puny creations. Did she make all those?
Hope you keep on and on and on, pain-free!

Oh my goodness...we're living the same life! I stayed on the phone with the bank and the phone company all morning...the phone company charged me twice and took it out of my account...they wouldn't do anything about it, nor would the bank! Talk about frustrating! Then...I had to talk to the insurance company! Bummer! And...I've messed up the quilt I've been working on...somehow I cut the backing too short...I give up! Sorry for the rant...just a bad day all around! So as Scarlett would say, " As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me!" And tomorrow is another day!

Mercy! So glad by the time you hit all those frustrations that you were well fortified with a morning of laughter and friends! How long did your bee members laugh when you discovered your yellow monster stitched to your shirt?! That made me smile!
Hope you find the right people to talk to so these hassles are gone. Then write down the names and phone numbers of the helpful folks so you can call them as needed.
Huge hugs!

Mary's quilts are STUNNING, aren't they! WOW! I'm so glad you had fun this morning, Susan! And I can't TELL you how often I've stitched something to my own clothing. Goodness! As for the frustrating afternoon, well, I'd say what I'm REALLY thinking of those people causing my sweet friend all that aggravation but - despite my silliness - I AM a lady so ... a NAP may be in order all around! Take a deep breath and tomorrow you will be ready to tackle those annoying situations!

Ugh, I had the exact same problem with my mother's accounts when she passed away -- and I was ON her checking account, my name was on the checks and everything. I HATE US BANK!! I'm obviously holding a grudge, huh? Anyway, the way I got it taken care of was by calling the Social Security Administration (the problem was the same as yours, only it was a SS check, not a pension check...) One phone call to the bank manager from an officer at the SSA on my behalf was all it took -- you might try that anyway if you don't get anywhere with the bank. The SSA has this problem with banks ALL THE TIME and it's a pet peeve.

Bless your heart. I could not imagine going through all of that. I hope you get it all worked out. I loved seeing all the goodies.

What fun you had at the quilting bee! I laughed out loud when I read of you stitching to your skirt! How funny! This is my first visit to your blog, and it was a very nice visit. You must be somewhere near me, since you mentioned Boaz, AL. I live just 7 miles from the TN line at Chattanooga.

Dealing with those kinds of problems is right up there with wanting to have a root canal. Oh, sign me up--Never!
