I found this little cartoon online. It tells the story a lot better than I could. Although we don't have the snow (YET), the temperatures here are ridiculously cold. Lows in the teens, highs in the 30s. We aren't used to this kind of winter around here. Sophie doesn't even want to go out to chase squirrels this morning.
We're likely to set some kind of record this week for number of days in a row with temps below freezing. And it's supposed to get worse before it gets better. Snow Thursday with another arctic blast of cold air over the weekend, sending our temps into the single digits.
Our good friends and neighbors, Paul and Karen, packed up their car and headed South. We miss them, but I hope they've found temps on the Gulf Coast a little warmer than here. Sophie and I might decide to do the same if this keeps up.
Yesterday, I bundled up and went to bee meeting. I took my camera, but I think the weather had my brain frozen. I spent the whole meeting sipping hot cider and talking and forgot to take even one photo of the show and tell.
When I got home, I did a couple of loads of laundry and cut out the pieces for my next monster block. Rian included the fun green fabric in a envelope with some beautiful Santa cards. The fabric was just perfect I thought for this little round monster. Thanks, Rian. And it was just the right size too.
I'm not sure I like those yellow rick-rack antennae. Might go back to the cutting board and cut them from the pattern piece. And maybe the feet need to be black. What do you think?
Of course with these ridiculously frigid temps, the fibro monster is at home here too. I have spend a great deal of time the past few days on the couch with the heating pad. I remember a time when temperatures couldn't get too cold for me. That time is gone.
I'm going now to make a bowl of warm oatmeal. Sophie's looking out the window, wondering if that beautiful sunshine means it's warm out there. No, Soph, it doesn't. And just take a look at Mr. Paul's flag flapping briskly in that arctic wind.
Uh oh. Looks like the warm oatmeal is going to have to wait until we make a trip out to show her how cold it is.

BRRRRRR! I am with YOU!!! I still (and always WILL) LOVE cold weather, but my old body doesn't tolerate it as well. I also thoroughly dislike central heat. It stops up my round head & causes me to have nose bleeds. NOT FUN! Yet when the temps stay below freezing, it HAS to be on to protect pipes. Ugh! I LOVE your monster. Yep! I vote for black feet but I LIKE the rickrack 'tennas! CUTE! Sophie will want to go INSIDE as fast as she went OUTSIDE! Start that oatmeal! I LOVE YOU BUNCHES! Stay warm!

It is cold and sunny here too but we aren't expecting snow later and it isn't quite as cold. I'll have to move my cacti and aloe vera inside so they won't freeze! We're having doggie potty break issues because of it! She'll go out, wander around, then come back in before she's done her business. I may have to go buy a newspaper or two.*G*
I love the monster too and the rickrack! I do think her shoes might pop more in black to match her hands but I also like the yellow.

This cold weather is miserable! I live in the south to avoid this cold ... what happened? I have been on the heating pad too. Hope you feel better.

Hi!
I've read moans from FL that the freeze extends there, too. It is COLD here, too. Brrrrrrrr! Seems "global warming" is a misleading term - it's global weather weirdness that our poor global stewardship has caused.
Our cat backs away from the open door, as if to say, "Are you kidding?" Then she runs to a different door as if the weather outside that door will be better!!
Have you seen the pretty flannels that are available? Perhaps you need a lovely, charming flannel quilt to keep you and Sophie extra cozy!
I like the rick-rack antennae and the yellow/green feet. It looks like this happy monster has on black gloves.
Hugs!

Oh it's cold in South FL too Susan ... wickedly so by our standards, but it feels so good after the heat of the summer and fall. Love the newest block ... absolutely adorable. I vote for "black feet" and I think the yellow rick rack is perfect :) I'm looking forward to "Silly Saturday!" What a great idea :) Stay warm ... Sophie too!

Here in IN we finally have snow and very cold temps! My brother in law lives in Omaha and it was going to be -30 today! UGH...I really miss Texas!! I do know what you mean about the fibro thing...went out in these temps to get some groceries and a new stock of books and now I don't think my back or knees are going to move for a week! People just don't understand how the cold affects fibro unless they have it...keep wanting to move back to Texas, but hubby doesn't seem to want to...Stay warm and don't go out unless Sophie needs to!
Hugs from a snowy and cold Indiana

I am hoping you can stay warm and cozy inside the house. It is cold here, too.
I do believe I would like the feet better in black, but he sure is a cutie.

I don't know which coast your friends are going to, but Central Florida is very VERY COLD! We usually have a couple of days of cold and then it warms up, but not this time. With more forecast at least until the end of the week. Lows in the 30's, and not very close to 50 in the daytime. It is cold in these old Florida homes :-(

Oh gosh it was cold when we were in Birmingham...I was outside with my grandson for about 10 minutes on Saturday...we bundled up and headed out and then after him riding his trike for a very short time we put it back in the garage and went in the house. We came home last night to Florida and it's very cold here (for Florida)...we're supposed to have the 20's tonight. That's just crazy! Stay warm!

I just knew that green fabric would make a cool monster! Stay warm!

Brrr! I know! It was 12 degrees on top of this little Alabama mountain! I've got 5" of ice on top of the pool...that's cold! I dread it if we get any moisture Thursday...they're saying a dusting to 3"...I know that's not much, but you know how it is around here...everything shuts down even with a dusting! Guess I'll just stay in this week-end and watch Alabama play in the California sunshine! Roll Tide!

It's -22 here. It's the wind that makes it so miserable. We're headed to Florida tomorrow. Last night, we talked to some friends of ours who live in FL and they said it was 29 degrees! In Florida! And here we thought we were going to warmer pastures. Hopefully, it warms up while we're there. We're looking forward to some sunshine.

So cold here, too! Supposed to be like 9 Thursday night, snow, too. It's only a week too early as I'll be able to stay home after next week!!!! Yea! What about a row of black on the feet where the green is. I like him!

I usually love the cold also, but as we had virtually no summer, I wish it was Spring! I love the monster and think the yellow rick-rack is really neat. It reminds me of that show My Favorite Martian. Hope you feel better soon.

Our Gulf coast in Florida is cold too. I wonder where your friends were headed. We are having 20's at night and 40's during the day. Stay warm. The bees will back in Spring, but you have a cute one there in the meanwhile.

Oh, the beginning of your post about the weather echoes the news report last night about it all -- how it's setting records for consecutive days, and about to get worse, etc. etc. We're expecting a blizzard today in CO - maybe the beginning of yours! Tomorrow it should be in the single digits and I'm betting we have a snow day from school.
I love your little monster. I like the rick rack antennae, but now that you mention it I think his feet could be either brighter, or black if you felt like changing them out! Verra cute!
