Show & Tell

Guild 1

Our guild meeting location is so very not conducive to good photography, but I did the best I could and got a few ahots to share. The quilt shown above was very interesting to me. Not only is it a very complicated Grandmother's Flower Garden design, but it is made entirely of polyester double knit. I kid you not. I wasn't playing close attention when the person who brought it was telling about it, so I don't know the details--something about it was supposed to have been made in the 1940s, but polyester double knit didn't come into being until the 60s. Remember those pants suits?

And when I got home, just look what was in my mailbox!

Guild 8

Guild 9 This fabric is all by Hoodie for Blank Quilting. I found it on Etsy. I thought the pots and pitchers fabric would make a great apron, maybe for a Christmas gift. And I just loved the colors of the other group so much, I had to have it.

After guild meeting, my friend Mary and I went to JoAnn's Fabric. But, believe it or not, I didn't buy one thing. Not one. Nothing seemed to be calling my name, so I came home empty handed.

Oh, and we didn't stay at guild for the program. So I can't give you details on the fellow who promised to cut 64 layers of fabric at one fell swoop. It didn't seem like anything that Mary and I would ever need to do, so we decided to go to JoAnn's instead.

When I got home, I noticed the distinct odor of unclean dog. So I'm about to take Miss Sophie upstairs for a nice doggie bath. Uh oh, I think she caught that thought. She's looking at me funny. Happy Monday evening everyone.

Hi! Did you and Sophie both get a bath or is she a sweetie and stands still as you bathe her?!

Love the coffee pot fabric and think the apron idea is perfect.

The Grandmother's Flower Garden variation quilt is lovely and I agree on the date it must have been made. When we lived in TX a local Lutheran nursing home had a quilt auction each year to raise funds. Many Lutheran churches contributed one or more quilts for the auction and it was fun to attend. I'll never forget seeing 8 polyester double knit quilts there, so pretty for afar, but I had enough of double knit in the 1960s, so no thank you! The woman who won all of them ran a homeless shelter and said those quilts would hold up to the use and the washings they would get. How true.

Hugs!

I've got a passion for paisley, so I really really like the fabric collection! Etsy has great fabric!

I actually made quite a few polyester knit quilts in the 1980s. I was cleaning out my load of fabrics. I think 1960 may be a bit early for double knit. Wasn't it more of a 70s-80s fabric? I remember making lots of clothes in college with double knit and that was in 1973.

I buy it now in the thrift store to use as batting in my service quilts. Since it is so hot when you wear it, it makes a snuggly batting and because it's 60" wide, it's good for the width of most of my service quilts too.

Wow, did you bring back a memory. My mother hand sewed a polyester quilt and it was never finished. Each square was hand embroidered with every pattern she knew. All the blocks are finished and they are wonderful. I need to have it finished. I think your photos are great. And thank you for bringing back a fond memory.

I love the coffee pot fabric. I think the red and white fabric is very sweet too. You will have fun with those pretty pieces. It is hard to believe you left Joann's without a purchase. You no doubt will make up for it next trip.

Have a great evening.

Hugs, Jeanne

My aunt had two dogs who understood the word "bath". When they heard it, they would slink underneath the deck and stay there for the entire day. When she wanted to give the dogs a bath, she could only do one at a time. She had to silently sneak up and catch one of them, while the other one high tailed it for the deck.

Susan, I so enjoy visiting your blog, but I don't always have the time to leave a comment...just wanted to say that I admire your quilting talent...I quilt, but not nearly as much as I would like to...you are inspiring.

Just read your post about having to sell one of Vann's vehicles...I've already forgotten what it was. I'm so sorry for the pain you have...it isn't easy. I love visiting you here on your blog..I hope you can feel the warmth of those that visit and that care about you.

God bless,

Mary
