Poor Soph. As much as she hates to take a bath, she hates to go out in the rain even more. But when, thanks to Hurricane Ida, it rains for more than 24 hours straight, with no break in the wet stuff, a dog's gotta do what a dog's gotta do.
I tried all day to get Sophie out for a nature call, but nothing doing. I would pick her up and take her out and put her down on the grass in the rain, trying to hold the umbrella so that it would protect us both (it didn't real help either one of us). She'd run right back to the door and huddle there until I let her in. We both stayed pretty damp all day from these efforts. Finally at about 6:00 last night, she'd had all she could take. She was running back and forth to the door and looking up at me with panic in her eyes. So I found an old rain coat and a hat of Vann's and got dressed. This time, I hooked Soph to the leash, determined that we weren't coming back till we got some actions.
So out we went into the water-logged neighborhood. Water was coursing down the streets and driveways, and the wind was blowing pretty hard as well. But Soph persevered. We were out in the deluge for only about five minutes before she found just the right spot.
Back inside, we worked with hairdryer and towels until we were both more or less dry. Then I made a cup of hot Earl Grey, and Sophie snuggled up on the back of the couch.
This morning, the rain is gone, so I took Sophie for a long walk to stretch her legs after being cabin-bound all day yesterday.
Today, I have an appointment at my doctor's office for another blood test to check cholesterol. Last month's test showed that my cholesterol as well as my triglycerides were high. Dr. M. prescribed Zocor and I began and all-out horse diet: oats. Every morning for breakfast, I've had a bowl of oatmeal. At night, if I crave a snack, I have a bowl of Cherrios. Not as good as cookies and ice cream, but it suffices. I'm hopeful that the Zocor and the oats combined have brought my numbers back to normal.
I worked some on quilts yesterday. Finished cutting the rest of the pieces for the Snowball Challenge quilt. Then I started another bunny block. This one, for some reason, gave me fits. The design has two bunnies this time instead of just one. I kept getting the second bunny placed wrong and had to take out stitches twice. Then I got his bow place wrong, and had to take that out. I never got the block finished before I got sleepy and went to bed. I'm determined to get it completely stitched today.
HAPPY VETERANS DAY to everyone, but especially to all our men and women who have made sacrifices so that others might live free.

Oh, I'm HAPPY because my naughty computer is letting me post a comment to your blog today. It was being horrid yesterday! I DID read your previous post tho' and was in love with all the pretties! Glad you and sweet Sophie-dog made it through the deluge! Crazy weather, huh? Ahhhhh! Another fan of Earl Grey! Can't LIVE without my Earl Grey! (Okay, I guess I could LIVE without it, but I would be a VERY unhappy Kai! LOL!) And I also must admit, I adore oatmeal. You won't believe this considering what a round person I am, but my doc said the reason my cholesterol is always good & my blood pressure as well, is because I eat oatmeal almost every single day (no sugar, sweetener, cream, etc - just plain) and I really cannot stand much salt. Thank goodness! If I DIDN'T, and if I weren't allergic to chocolate, I'd be the size of a hot air balloon! So DOOOOO keep eating oatmeal & Cheerios! They are 'good for what ails you' and I want my beautiful friend to be completely HEALTHY! LOOOOOOVE you! (And Sophie, too!)

Oh Susan I had to laugh about your post with Soph! We had a similar situation yesterday as well and this morning I woke up to a nice surprise in the corner of the bedroom. I couldn't blame them though, they just won't "get busy" when it's pouring down rain.
Love the pictures of the quilts on the previous post, I can't wait until I have more free time to be just like you guys ;)

Glub, glub here where it'd been raining for about 18 hours, with two days and nights of rain in the forecast. We'll slip and slide to North Carolina given all the clay in the soil here. I do hope and pray our trees stay up and their roots hold on tight. We lost a huge tree that simply tipped over after a rain like this.
One of our cats who is usually outside all day is highly upset that it's raining hard no matter which door she goes to.
Sipping Earl Grey here, too! How about that!
Hang in there on the annoying bunny block!
Hugs to you and to Sophie!

It has been doing the same here, nothing but sheets of rain and a gust of wind every little while! Your poor little doggy! Kerrie

Yesterday was definitely a day " not fit for man nor beast" as the old saying goes. I had to slog through it all day to and from work. Poor Sophie. Hope y'all are starting to dry out.

Poor Soph. So glad that she finally was able to let you know she was ready. I'm sure she was just as glad that the rains subsided.

My dog acts like he doesn't even notice the rain, which is really just as bad. After he finishes his business he'll just wander and sit in the yard like it's a sunny day! Then I go out and try to convince him to come in, we both end up wet every time!!
I hope the oatmeal and cheerios paid off for you!!

I had to laugh at the picture you painted of you and Sophie with the umbrella. I have done that! Riley hates to get wet! But get the garden hose out, and all bets are off.

We still have the wind and rain here. I am glad you and Sophie are staying cozy and warm.
We love us some oatmeal, too. My mother's favorite oatmeal is oatmeal cookies. Ha!

Sophie looks so sad sitting there in the rain. Bless her heart. It can't be any fun to have to go out there to do your thing. Glad the rain has eased up. Have a good week!
