I just realized I'm actively working on three quilts at the same time: the bunny quilt, October Garden, and the snowball challenge. Now I'm accustomed to working on a project for while, then putting it away and starting on something else, not going back to the first one for months or sometimes years. But I don't mean that. I have three quilts going at once. Today I worked on all three of them. I sewed October Garden units for a while, cut out half of my snowball challenge pieces, and the started stitching my third bunny block. I'll get back to the bunny when I'm finished blogging.
A good blogging friend made me an offer I almost couldn't refuse. She offered to cut out my snowball challenge blocks for me. But after reading the instructions, I realized it was going to be a quick cutting job, 3" squares and 2 1/2" strips from each fat quarter. I decided I'd cut a few and see how I did. Before I knew it, I had half the job done. But thanks, D, for the offer. What a good friend you are.
I don't know how much longer my energy spurt and my lessened pain will last, but I'm just going to take advantage while it does. I'm not doing anything strenuous--just cutting and sewing, and a little bit of housework, running a few errands, playing with Sophie more, walking more. Well, it sounds like a lot, but it's really not.
What I truly should be doing is working on my study/office. I haven't done anything about it's reorganization and I really want it to be done before the end of the year. But that job is going to require heavy lifting and strenuous work. I'm not sure I'm ready for that. Hmmm, maybe that's what a young, strong handsome grandson is for.
I'm also going to try to get all of Vann's clothes packed up and donated before the end of the year. I don't look forward to that chore, but my lawyer sort of put it all in perspective for me. He told me to think of the people who could really use those clothes and that they aren't doing anybody any good where they are now. Thinking of it that way, it really seems selfish to keep them. Andy and Lori have both offered to help. So I've decided it's time. And I'm going to keep a few things, but just a few. I'm putting all Vann's ties away; I might make something for the kids from them someday.
I hope everyone is looking forward to a good weekend. Sophie and i are going to put on a pot of soup and watch the Bama/LSU game and the Auburn/Georgia game tomorrow. And, no doubt, work on the quilts some more.
Gotta go. Sophie's pestering me to take her outside. For about the 10th time today.

You go, girl! Three projects all in the same day. My hat is off to you!! Applause!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you mean to tell me that the Snowball quilt blocks are cut 3" so will finish at 2.5"? then there are the triangles in the corners. That is one busy quilt! Surely the 3" square are for the triangles?
Before you bid farewell to Vann's shirts, consider if you want to make a flannel quilt from his flannel shirts or a cotton quilt from his other shirts. I'm glad you're keeping his ties. There is/was a book about quilts from ties. I've seen a chair seat woven from cherished ties and one from belts (buckles on the underside). Listen to your heart, dear.
Hugs!

You have inspired me to go to my sewing machine right now! I need to get back to sewing. I have more projects started than I can count.
I would keep flannel shirts to if Vann has any that would be a wonderful quilt. I am going to use what I can of Amber's things and make use of them in a quilt or in some other way. I can wear her things too, which gives me comfort.
I have seen quilts made from ties too. They are beautiful.
Hugs
Donna

I was going to suggest the same about making a quilt from some of Vann's clothing. Heather's Mom made a quilt from pieces of Lily's baby clothes she had outgrown, zippers and all. So special and very cherished. I know I'm a sentimental sap but maybe a little something for a future grandchild or two? You know I love you and your big heart, your incredible talent and maybe most of all, your wit & humor!!! LBJ

Fun, quilty things going on here- your bunnies are adorable! I have been looking at the fun squares made from shirts cut up, your blog friends here are all thinking along the same lines. I have a denim quilt made from old jeans, and I have thought about using twill dockers the same way. Of course, these ideas don't let you get the garments out of the house, so maybe, if it's not inspiring, then pass them on.... :-} Pokey

I was going to offer earlier to make a memorial quilt or something from Vann's clothes for you but I thought it might be too soon. I certainly wouldn't rush any thing -- there are plenty of clothes at the thrift store for those that need them. Your lawyer is probably not a quilter and may not understand the significance of the clothes to your healing. I am sure he is thinking like a man.
Contact me and we can certainly come up with a design and some ideas that would suit you.

Sounds like Sophie wants to take advantage of your energy too. She knows.

I love the bunnies! That ones going on my someday list. Someday, I'll make that pattern.
Here's hoping the energy level remains high. Use it on sewing and fun stuff.
Take care.

Hi Susan. You are right about Vann's clothes. We had a hard time with my Dad's clothes too but it's great that those in need can use them. You are so much more disciplined that I am. I am constantly starting new projects. I have purchased so many Moda precuts that I am constantly wanting to play with new fabrics. I have way too many quilt tops that need to be quilted & that is my New Years resolution. LOL Wishing you lots of energy spurts! :)

So glad that you're feeling better and enjoying your sewing projects. A tie quilt would be a lovely memory. By all means get that grandson to help with the heavy work - I'm sure he would be more than willing.
